    Some properties of evolution algebras

    Get PDF
The paper is devoted to the study of finite dimensional complex evolu- tion algebras. The class of evolution algebras isomorphic to evolution algebras with Jordan form matrices is described. For finite dimensional complex evolution algebras the criteria of nilpotency is established in terms of the properties of corresponding matrices. Moreover, it is proved that for nilpotent n−dimensional complex evolution algebras the possible maximal nilpotency index is 1 + 2n−1 . The criteria of planarity for finite graphs is formulated by means of evolution algebras defined by graphs.

Se están llevando a cabo otras investigaciones con las mismas piedras y productos de tratamiento en un intento de establecer correlaciones entre el grado de eficacia de dichos tratamientos y la durabilidadThe aim of this study is to establish which physical properties may be used, in a routine way, in order to know the efficacy rate of a treatment applied on a specific rocky substrate. Whit this purpose, two types of carbonated rocks, the limestone ofHontoria (Burgos) and the dolomite ofLaspra (Asturias) have been chosen, with a very different configuration of their porosity systems. Three protection products, with silico-organic nature and widely used have been used, to wit: two siloxenes and a copolymer. Tue properties chosen (contact angle and water vapour permeability) have been the proper ones in order to determine the efficacy level of the different treatments. This level was demonstrated to be conditioned by the chemical characteristics of this product, and characteristics is practically null. Other investigations are being carried out with the same rocks and treatmen products in orderPeer reviewe

A unique Fock quantization for fields in non-stationary spacetimes

In curved spacetimes, the lack of criteria for the construction of a unique quantization is a fundamental problem undermining the significance of the predictions of quantum field theory. Inequivalent quantizations lead to different physics. Recently, however, some uniqueness results have been obtained for fields in non-stationary settings. In particular, for vacua that are invariant under the background symmetries, a unitary implementation of the classical evolution suffices to pick up a unique Fock quantization in the case of Klein-Gordon fields with time-dependent mass, propagating in a static spacetime whose spatial sections are three-spheres. In fact, the field equation can be reinterpreted as describing the propagation in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime after a suitable scaling of the field by a function of time. For this class of fields, we prove here an even stronger result about the Fock quantization: the uniqueness persists when one allows for linear time-dependent transformations of the field in order to account for a scaling by background functions. In total, paying attention to the dynamics, there exists a preferred choice of quantum field, and only one SO(4)SO(4)-invariant Fock representation for it that respects the standard probabilistic interpretation along the evolution. The result has relevant implications e.g. in cosmology.Comment: Typos correcte

Oxygen consumption of rats with broad intestinal resection

The study was performed to investigate possible alterations in oxygen consumption in an animal model with broad intestinal resection. Oxygen consumption and the thermal effect of a short meal were measured in rats subjected to short bowel syndrome. Four groups of rats were used. Group I was the control group, group II was sham operated, group III was submitted to 80% jejunum-ileum resection, and group IV was submitted to 80% jejunum-ileum resection with colon interposition. Ninety days after surgery, oxygen consumption was measured over a period of 6 h with the animals fasted overnight. The thermal effect of feeding was determined in another session of oxygen consumption measurement in animals fasted for 12 h. A 12-kcal meal was then introduced into the animal chamber and oxygen consumption was measured for a further 4 h. No differences in fasting oxygen consumption or in the thermal effect of the meal were detected among the groups studied. It is concluded that short bowel syndrome does not affect the overall energy expenditure of rats.Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) Escola Paulista de Medicina Departamento de FisiologiaUniversidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) Escola Paulista de Medicina Departamento de CirurgiaUNIFESP, EPM, Depto. de FisiologiaUNIFESP, EPM, Depto. de CirurgiaSciEL

A centennial catalogue of hydro-geomorphological events and their atmospheric forcing

    Get PDF
The DISASTER database records 1969 unique hydro-geomorphologic cases (floods and landslides) that generated human damages in Portugal during a 150 year-period (1865–2015. The main purposes of this work are the following: to present a national disaster events catalogue; to analyse the atmospheric conditions and to discuss the role of rainfall as main driving force of the hydro-geomorphological disaster events. The main Circulation Weather Types (CWTs) and the presence of Atmospheric Rivers (ARs) of each day of the disaster events were classified using the 20CR dataset (1865–2014) and the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis (2015). These datasets were used to compute the daily cumulative precipitation and the long term climatological year accumulated precipitation 10th, 50th, 90th and 95th percentile spanning 1865–2015 and the accumulated rainfall conditions after and before each disaster event. In the central and northern Portugal Disaster events are mainly driven by southwest (SW), west (W), northwest (NW) and Cyclonic (C) Weather Types, whereas the CWTs with a southern and eastern component [east (E), southeast (SE) and south (S)] are the main drivers in the south part of the country. Cyclonic CWT is widely associated with convective systems that can generate flash floods and urban floods often responsible for fatalities and injured people. CWTs with a westerly component can be associated to prolonged wet periods that can induce flood events in the main rivers and landslides in the mountain areas. The methodology used to build this disaster event catalogue can be applicable to other study areas, namely the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean regions, where the flood and landslides extremes are related to the atmospheric circulation.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Obtención empírica del límite frecuencial entre las bandas de baja y altra frecuencia en análisis de variabilidad del ritmo cardíaco: aplicación en ratas y humanos

    Get PDF

Self-organized criticality in deterministic systems with disorder

Using the Bak-Sneppen model of biological evolution as our paradigm, we investigate in which cases noise can be substituted with a deterministic signal without destroying Self-Organized Criticality (SOC). If the deterministic signal is chaotic the universality class is preserved; some non-universal features, such as the threshold, depend on the time correlation of the signal. We also show that, if the signal introduced is periodic, SOC is preserved but in a different universality class, as long as the spectrum of frequencies is broad enough.Comment: RevTex, 8 pages, 8 figure
