    El paleógeno del sector suroccidental de la Cuenca del Duero: nueva división estratigráfica y controles sobre su sedimentación

    Como resultado de un detallado trabajo cartográfico, estratigráfico y sedimentológico, se propone la división del Paleógeno del sector suroccidental de la Cuenca del Duero en cuatro U.T.S. limitadas por discordancias. Estas D.T.S., que abarcan desde el tránsito Cretácico superior-Paleoceno hasta el Oligoceno, incluyen distintas unidades litoestratigráficas que sonreordenadas, modificando la sucesión estratigrática propuesta por los autores anteriores. Se asigna a la U.T.S. Me una edad Cretácico superior-Paleoceno. Se individualiza el Eoceno inferior (U.T.S. PI) en la zona de Salamanca. Se reinterpreta la relación existente entre los materiales del Eoceno mediosuperior y los del Eoceno superior-Oligoceno considerándolos en tránsito por lo que se asignan a una única U.T.S. (UT.S. P2, Eoceno medio Oligoceno inferior). Se incluyen en la U.T.S. P3 (Oligoceno superior) los sedimentos arcósicos anterionnente considerados como Vatlesienses. Así mismo, se considera que gran parte de los materiales asignados al mioceno inferior son sedimentos paleógenos afectados por un proceso de alteración de edad Miocena, lo que implica una variación en la extensión y límites de la cuenca neógena en su extremo SO. Se analiza la evolución de las distintas U.T.S. deduciendo un carácter tectónico para las megasecuencias propuestas relacionado con el progresivo levantamiento de las áreas fuente. El clima muestra un tránsito desde condiciones tropicales sin estaciones contrastadas (U,T.S. MC) hasta un clima mediterráneo árido (U.T.S. P3) con una estación seca muy marcada y una corta estación húmeda caracterizada por violentas avenidas. [ABSTRACT] A Paleogene four-fold stratigraphical division is proposed here as result fram the detailed studies carried out during the elaboration of 22 sheets of the Geological Map of Spain (E. 1 :50.000). This units (T.S.U.) are limited by regional discordances and they have a Upper Cretaceous to Oligocene ages. The previous stratigraphical schemes are rearranged due to the different stratigraphical relations observed between the lithostratigraphical units proposed by other workers (Jiménez, 1970; Corrochano, 1977; Alonso, 1981...). An Upper Cretaceous-Paleocene age is assumed to T.S.U. MC which is mainly composed by siliciclastic sediments strongly silicified forming a FU megasequence. It is intcrpretated as braided streams that flowed downslope filling paleovalleys erodcd onto Paleozoic materiaIs. Mineralogical features point to a tropical climate. Lower Eocene (T.S.U. P I ) is identified in the Salamanca area, where ir was considered as lacking. It is composed by arkosic sediments forming a CU megasequence. Fossil faunas of this T.S.U. record a subtropical clima te. It is observed a transition from high sinuosity streams to braided ones. T.S.U. P2 (Middle Eocene-Lower Oligocene) is composed of two lithostratigraphical units previously considered as bounded by a discordance (Alonso, 1981).It has a subarkosic to lithic nature and forms a CU megasequence. This unit records a subtropical climate with short arid periods and is interpretated as braided streams showing an increasing stability and enviromental energy to the topo T.S. U. P3 (Upper Oligocene) is composed by arkosic sediments previously considered of Vallesian (Middle to Upper Miocene) age. They form a CU megasequence that records braided streams prograding basinwardfrom higher arcas. Palinological associations and pedological features indicate an arid mediterranean climate with long arid periods and a short rainy season with strong floods. We consider that most of Lower Miocene sediments are of Paleogene age. They are afected by a widespread alteration profile developed along Lower Miocene that masked its more significative features. Sedimentological analysis of T.S.U. shows that its megasequentiality is related to the rates of tectonical uplift of source arcas whereas a distensive regime developed in the sedimentation basin

    Phoretic relationship between the myceliophagous mite Microdispus lambi (Acari: Microdispidae) and mushroom flies in Spanish crops

    We studied the role played by the phorid Megaselia halterata (Wood) and the sciarid Lycoriella auripila (Winnertz) in the phoretic dispersion of the myceliophagous mite Microdispus lambi (Acari: Pygmephoridae). Twenty‐four crops were monitored during 18 months in commercial mushroom farms in Castilla‐La Mancha (Spain). Adults of both species were collected weekly and the mites they carried were counted and identified. Both phorids (19.6%) and sciarids (4.4%) carried the mite M. lambi. The calculated load of each was 3.4 M. lambi mites per phorid and 1.9 per sciarid. The same percentage of male and female phorid was used as vector, but the load was slightly higher for females (1.86 mites per female compared with1.48 mites per male). A mean of 7.2% of the phorids examined in winter were vectors of M. lambi, while in spring and autumn of the first year the average was more than 22%. The mean load did not vary significantly between seasons. Inside the mushroom farms, less than 10% of a small initial population of phorids carried mites (less than two mites per phorid). As the cycle progressed, more than 35% of a larger population of emerging flies did so (average 3.5 mites per phorid vector). At the end of the growth cycle, the flies may fly off to colonise nearby farms, favouring the propagation of M. lambi from infested to uninfested crops.     Cultivation of Agaricus bitorquis mushroom as an strategy for the Integrated Pest Management of the myceliophagous mite Microdispus lambi

    BACKGROUND: The phorid fly Megaselia halterata Winnertz (Diptera: Phoridae) is the principal vector of Microdispus lambi (Acari: Pygmephoroidea) in Spanish Agaricus bisporus Lange (Imbach) mushroom farms. This myceliophagous mite does not appear to be a pest in Agaricus bitorquis (Quél.) Sacc mushroom crops. This study explores the role of phorid flies as vectors of Microdispus lambi in Agaricus bitorquis mushroom crops. RESULTS: The incidence of M. lambi in A. bitorquis growing substrates did not reach appreciable levels at any point during the growing cycle. The presence of phorid flies in A. bitorquis farms was normally higher than that in the case of Agaricus bisporus Lange (Imbach) species. The percentage of phorid vectors did not statistically differ between both Agaricus crops during infection periods. However, by the end of the crop, this percentage had increased only in A. bisporus crops, coinciding with a high incidence of mites in the substrate of this mushroom species; Megaselia halterata emerging from the mushroom substrate of A. bitorquis summer crops did not carry mites as they were absent from compost and casing. CONCLUSION: M. halterata is a pest in Spanish A. bitorquis mushroom crops, meanwhile M. lambi, its phorectic mite, has shown not to be a pest of this species mushroom farms during the spring–summer growing season. A. bitorquis crops could potentially be used as an IPM measure to decrease the incidence and prevent the propagation of the myceliophagous mite M. lambi in A. bisporus mushroom growing farms.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    The synzootic potential of common epidemics in chamois populations

    Altres ajuts: acords transformatius de la UABSouthern chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica) is a medium-sized and gregarious mountain ungulate with populations affected by periodic outbreaks of border disease virus (BD), infectious keratoconjunctivitis (IKC), and sarcoptic mange (SM). Even though the impact of each disease on chamois populations has been described in detail, there is a lack of information about the potential impact of concomitant epidemics and the synzootic potential (co-occurring enzootic or epizootic processes producing worse health outcomes in wildlife) on chamois populations. Furthermore, whether a specific order of apparition of epidemics is more or less harmful for the host population is practically unknown not only for chamois but also for most mammal populations. Using a population viability analysis (PVA), we studied the consequences of multiple disease outbreaks with synzootic potential on growth rates and probabilities of extinction of virtual populations exposed to hard winters, density dependence, and co-occurring BD, IKC, and SM outbreaks. Such infections are not under cross-immunity nor density-dependent processes and thus are supposed to affect population demography independently. Heavy snowfalls are also likely to occur in our simulated populations. Our simulations showed that a second outbreak, even caused by a low virulent pathogen, causes an increase in the probability of extinction of the host population with regard to the first outbreak. IKC-BD- and SM-BD-affected populations had a higher risk of becoming extinct in 50 years confirming the extra risk of multiple outbreaks on the viability of the affected populations

    We summarize the historical information about origin of Canary Black Pig and standing in the Canary Islands. The presence of pig in Canary Islands is from 500 year b.C., where aborigines used its meat as food, its fat to preserve foods, its skin as clothing and its bones to produce tools and adornments. The census is constituted for 283 animals, 182 females and 101 males, with a major representation in Tenerife and Gran Canaria islands, 173 and 71 animals respectively.A través de la documentación histórica del Archipiélago Canario, se ha esbozado el origen del Cerdo Negro Canario, a la vez que se expone su estado actual en las diferentes islas del archipiélago. La presencia del cerdo data desde hace 2500 años en el Archipiélago Canario, donde los aborígenes utilizaron su carne como alimento, su manteca para conservas, su piel para vestimenta y sus huesos para fabricación de útiles y adornos. El censo lo constituyen unos 283 ejemplares, 182 hembras y 101 machos, y su mayor representación está en las islas de Tenerife y de Gran Canaria con 173 y 71 animales respectivamente

    Internet, technology and applications for university music education of the 21st Century

    [EN] During courses 2012-2013 and 2013- 2014, a team of university teachers began the process of technology introduction in the university music classroom. The purpose of this team has been to integrate current technology resources, through the application of new active models of teaching and learning in the classroom every day. This enables the improvement of the university education process itself, as well as its application to other educative levels where students will work as teachers in the future. Framed in initial teacher education, this innovative experience seeks to analyse the didactic possibilities for music education that technology offers, using the Internet, various tools, software and applications that support the university musical learning and serve as educational model for these students and future teachers in an educational and reflective way. The innovation project developed is briefly described and the different software and applications are explained with an indication of their educational potential. Collaborative action research and qualitative analysis have been the main methodologies that have been used throughout the process. After analysing the experience, the benefits and difficulties of their integration in the classroom have been explained. The interest of this study lies in serving as a guide for other future experiences and in benefiting music education of the 21st Century.[ES] Durante los cursos 2012-2013 y 2013-2014 se ha pretendido asentar las bases de un trabajo en equipo de profesorado universitario sobre la introducción tecnológica en el aula de música universitaria. La finalidad de este equipo ha sido integrar los recursos tecnológicos actuales, mediante la aplicación de nuevos modelos activos de enseñanza-aprendizaje, en el día a día del aula, que permitan la mejora del propio proceso educativo universitario así como su aplicación a otros niveles de enseñanza en los que en un futuro el estudiante ejercerá en calidad de docente. Se presenta una experiencia innovadora enmarcada en la formación inicial del profesorado que busca analizar las posibilidades didácticas para la enseñanza musical que ofrece la tecnología, utilizando de manera educativa y reflexiva Internet, variadas herramientas, programas y aplicaciones que sirvan de apoyo a la enseñanza musical universitaria a la vez que modelo educativo para dichos estudiantes, futuros docentes. Se describe brevemente el proyecto de innovación desarrollado y se explicitan los diferentes programas y aplicaciones utilizados con la indicación de su potencial educativo. La investigación acción colaborativa y el análisis cualitativo han sido las metodologías principales que se han empleado en todo el proceso.     Influencia de la densidad de la masa adulta y el tratamiento del suelo sobre la regeneración del pino laricio (Pinus nigra Arn. ssp. Salzmannii) en España

    Satisfactory results relating to the natural regeneration of the Spanish black pine (Pinus nigra Arn ssp. salzmannii) is generally difficult to achieve. The natural regeneration of this pine was studied comparing two types of soil treatment and various overstory densities in six experimental forests. These studies were conducted from 1999 to 2002 and seed rain and germination, as well as seedling survival were observed in a number of specific plots: Brushing, scalping and control plots. In addition various overstory densities were used (measured as base area (square m/ha). Soil and air temperature together with soil moisture were continuously recorded throughout this summer period. The results showed that seed germination was higher in plots using the scalping technique, as opposed to the brushed or controlled plots. The best seedling survival percentage was found in scalped plots together with a larger basal area. It was also found that seedling survival was lower during the first year than during the second one. The results have practical implications for management of Spanish black pine forests as well as valuable information which could improve the conditions for regeneration.Generalmente es difícil conseguir una regeneración natural satisfactoria del pino laricio (Pinus nigra Arn ssp. salzmannii). Esta ha sido estudiada en dos tipos de tratamiento del suelo y bajo diferentes rangos de densidad de masa en seis montes de la Provincia de Cuenca. Entre 1999 y 2000 se ha seguido la lluvia de semillas, germinación y supervivencia de plántulas en las parcelas en las que se realizaron los tratamientos de suelo y bajo diferentes rangos de densidad de masa adulta, medida como área basimétrica (m cuadrados/ha). La temperatura del suelo y aire y la humedad del suelo han sido registradas durante el verano y para las dos primeras épocas de crecimiento de las plántulas. En las zonas decapadas la germinación fue superior a la encontrada en las zonas desbrozadas o testigo. El mejor porcentaje de supervivencia se calculó para las zonas decapadas en combinación con el mayor nivel de área basimétrica medido. La mortalidad de plántulas fue superior durante el primer periodo de crecimiento. Los resultados tienen implicaciones prácticas especialmente en lo relativo a una gestión forestal que mejore las condiciones para la regeneración natural de los bosques de pino laricio

    The purpose of the present monograph is to provide a compilation of studies that demonstrate how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the mental health of various groups of the population in Iberoamerican countries. The nine articles of this special issue analyse subjects such as isolation due to confinement, post-traumatic stress derived from exposure to the coronavirus, the differences in the level of well-being according to social class, the increase of depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation, the effect of the infection on psychological disorders, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, the increase of anxiety symptoms and the resulting greater demand for psychological care, the effects of healthcare pressure on burnout experienced by healthcare workers, and the role of self-forgiveness and compassion in relation to personal growth and life satisfaction during the pandemic. In sum, this special issue is a sample of the scientific evidence on how this unusual crisis is affecting citizens' psychological health.El propósito del monográfico es presentar un compendio de estudios que muestran cómo la pandemia por la COVID-19 ha impactado la salud mental de diversos sectores de la población de países iberoamericanos. Nueve artículos analizan la soledad a causa del confinamiento, el estrés postraumático derivado de la exposición al coronavirus y sus consecuencias, las diferencias en el nivel de bienestar en función de la clase social, el incremento de la sintomatología depresiva y la ideación suicida, el impacto de la infección en trastornos psicológicos como el obsesivo compulsivo, el incremento de los síntomas de ansiedad y el aumento consecuente de la demanda de atención psicológica, la relación entre el ejercicio físico, pasear al perro y el estado afectivo durante el confinamiento, los efectos de la presión asistencial sobre el desgaste profesional de los trabajadores sanitarios y, finalmente, el papel del perdón a uno mismo y la compasión en relación al crecimiento personal y la satisfacción con la vida durante la pandemia.     This letter comments on the article "The treatment of sarcoptic mange in wildlife: a systematic review" published in Parasites & Vectors 2019, 12:99, and discusses the limitations in the use of endectocides for scabies control in free-ranging wildlife. The ecological impact and drug resistance to ivermectin are also discussed. In our view, scabies control in free-ranging wildlife should be based preferably on population management measures, and whether to apply individual treatments to free-ranging populations should be considered very carefully and avoided where not absolutely warranted. $x 1756-330
