The Stationary Phase Method for a Wave Packet in a Semiconductor Layered System. The applicability of the method

Using the formal analysis made by Bohm in his book, {\em "Quantum theory"}, Dover Publications Inc. New York (1979), to calculate approximately the phase time for a transmitted and the reflected wave packets through a potential barrier, we calculate the phase time for a semiconductor system formed by different mesoscopic layers. The transmitted and the reflected wave packets are analyzed and the applicability of this procedure, based on the stationary phase of a wave packet, is considered in different conditions. For the applicability of the stationary phase method an expression is obtained in the case of the transmitted wave depending only on the derivatives of the phase, up to third order. This condition indicates whether the parameters of the system allow to define the wave packet by its leading term. The case of a multiple barrier systems is shown as an illustration of the results. This formalism includes the use of the Transfer Matrix to describe the central stratum, whether it is formed by one layer (the single barrier case), or two barriers and an inner well (the DBRT system), but one can assume that this stratum can be comprise of any number or any kind of semiconductor layers.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures although figure 4 has 5 graph

Polar optical phonons in core-shell semiconductor nanowires

We obtain the the long-wavelength polar optical vibrational modes of semiconductor core-shell nanowires by means of a phenomenological continuum model. A basis for the space of solutions is derived, and by applying the appropriate boundary conditions, the transcendental equations for the coupled and uncoupled modes are attained. Our results are applied to the study of the GaAs-GaP core-shell nanowire, for which we calculate numerically the polar optical modes, analyzing the role of strain in the vibrational properties of this nanosystem

Los planes de tutoría de carrera : una estrategia para la orientación al estudiante en el marco del EEES

La implantación del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES) ha supuesto el reconocimiento de la tutoría universitaria como un importante criterio de calidad, lo que exige el diseño y la puesta en práctica de medidas de orientación al alumnado. La tutoría se entiende como una tarea integrada en la labor docente, que implica una interacción más personalizada con el estudiante para guiar y planificar su proceso de aprendizaje. En este marco se centra la investigación de corte descriptivo y exploratorio que presentamos y cuyo objetivo principal era valorar las potencialidades y las debilidades de un plan de tutorías institucional para facilitar el proceso de aprendizaje y el desarrollo del proyecto formativo-profesional del alumnado en el marco del EEES. Se empleó el cuestionario como técnica de recogida de información para analizar las opiniones y las percepciones de una muestra de estudiantes y tutores que han participado en el programa.La implantació de l'Espai Europeu d'Ensenyament Superior (EEES) ha suposat el reconeixement de la tutoria universitària com un important criteri de qualitat, la qual cosa exigeix el disseny i la posada en pràctica de mesures d'orientació a l'alumnat. En aquest marc se centra la investigació, descriptiva i exploratòria, que es presenta i que tenia per objectiu valorar les potencialitats i les debilitats d'un pla de tutories institucional per facilitar el procés d'aprenentatge i el desenvolupament del projecte formatiu-professional de l'alumnat en el marc de l'EEES. Es va emprar el qüestionari com a tècnica de recollida d'informació per analitzar les opinions i les percepcions d'una mostra d'estudiants i tutors que han participat en el programa.The introduction of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) has meant the recognition of university tutoring as an important quality criterion that requires a plan and putting measures for student guidance into practice. Tutoring is understood as a teaching task: it entails a more personalized interaction with students for guiding them and for planning their learning process. Within the abovementioned framework, this is a descriptive and exploratory research whose aim was to assess the strengths and weaknesses of one institutional Tutoring Plan to facilitate the student learning process and their professional development within the framework of the EHEA. La Tutoría entre iguales y la orientación universitaria : una experiencia de formación académica y profesional

La tutoria d'iguals (peer tutoring) en l'ensenyament universitari constitueix en l'actualitat una estratègia important d'orientació amb la qual es pretén facilitar els processos d'adaptació i promoció del alumnat de nou ingrés. Una de les condicions bàsiques per desenvolupar aquesta estratègia és la formació d'aquells estudiants dels últims cursos (companys tutors) que assessoraran els estudiants novells. En relació amb els processos de formació, tant teòrica com pràctica, dels companys tutors, es porta a terme una anàlisi de les concepcions i de les expectatives de l'alumnat en procés de formació respecte al seu rol orientador i es realitza una avaluació del programa de formació del company tutor.Nowadays peer tutoring is an important strategy in university guidance aimed to facilitate the adaptation and promotion processes of first year students. One basic precondition for the development of this strategy is the training of students in the last two years of their university studies that will advise novel students as fellow tutors. In this article we analize the conceptions and expectations about their guidance role of students in the training process, in their theoretical and practical facets, and we present a first evaluation of the Training Program of fellow tutors.La tutoría de iguales (peer tutoring) en la enseñanza universitaria constituye en la actualidad una importante estrategia de orientación con la que se pretende facilitar los procesos de adaptación y promoción del alumnado de nuevo ingreso. Una de las condiciones básicas para el desarrollo de dicha estrategia es la formación de aquellos estudiantes de últimos cursos (compañeros tutores) que asesorarán a los estudiantes noveles. Estrategias de intervención tutorial en la universidad: una experiencia para la formación integral del alumnado de nuevo ingreso

The requirements that the university education raises in the frame of the EEES make the putting necessary in practice of strategies that allow to achieve a more integral vision of the formation of the student. The university tutoring allows an approximation the budgets that define the process of European Convergence, since across the same one there is reached a more integral vision of the formative process, a major autonomy of the student body and a better preparation along the life. In this article there is defined the model of action who follows in the Faculty of Education of the University of La Laguna (Spain) and there are described the results obtained in a program with students of the first course.Las exigencias que plantea la enseñanza universitaria en el marco del EEES hacen necesario la puesta en práctica de estrategias que permitan lograr una visión más integral de la formación del alumnado. La tutoría universitaria permite un acercamiento a los presupuestos que definen el proceso de Convergencia Europea, puesto que a través de la misma se alcanza una visión más integral del proceso formativo, una mayor autonomía del alumnado y una mejor preparación a lo largo de la vida. Low-frequency phonons in carbon nanotubes: A continuum approach

7 págs.; 6 figs.; 2 apéndices ; PACS number s : 68.65. k, 63.22. mLow-frequency phonons in carbon nanotubes are studied using a continuum model which allows consideration of an arbitrary wall thickness for the nanotube. Phonon dispersion relations are calculated for two archetypal examples of carbon nanotubes, the (5,5) and (10,10) tubes. The dependence of the radial breathing mode frequency at Γ on the inverse nanotube diameter is verified within this model; furthermore, we prove it to hold for all pure modes within the thin-shell approximation. The effect of the nanotube wall thickness on the eigenfrequencies of carbon nanotubes is also analyzed, and a criterion to fix this parameter within a continuum model is presented. El asesoramiento y la tutoría de carrera en la Enseñanza Superior : resultados de un programa de atención al alumnado en la Universidad de la Laguna

El Espacio Común Europeo de Educación Superior ha traído consigo cambios sustanciales en los fines y en la forma de organizar la enseñanza, ya que se intenta ahora que sea el alumnado el verdadero protagonista de su proceso formativo y que esta formación tenga una dimensión profesionalizadora. Con ello la función tutorial del profesorado universitario se ha revalorizado debido a su importante contribución como guía de aprendizaje y estimulador del desarrollo integral del alumnado. En este trabajo se define un modelo de actuación y los resultados de una experiencia con la que se potencia desde la tutoría de carrera la adaptación de los estudiantes a la enseñanza universitaria y el desarrollo de las competencias trasferibles para su futuro profesional.The European Higher Education Area brings with it substantial change in the purposes and organization of education. Those changes flow from the recognition of the student as the centre of the learning process, and the pursuing of a training that educate students not only in the academic field but as professionals. All these have supposed the revaluation of the tutorial functions of university teaching, because of its contribution as a guide of learning and animator of the integral development of students. In this article we define a model of performance, and the results of an experience of career tutoring which promoted the adjustment of the students to university education and the development of competences transferable for her professional future
