    RESUMEN La educación es un proceso socializador e integrador que busca el desarrollo armónico de todos los componentes de la personalidad, la sexualidad forma parte de ella;  por lo que debe estar incluida en el marco de la educación global y específicamente en la educación especial. Los padres y madres de hijos con retraso mental juegan un papel preponderante en su desarrollo social; orientarlos y capacitarlos constituye un reto para la sociedad contemporánea. El propósito de este trabajo consiste en desarrollar un programa de orientación sexual para padres de hijos con retraso mental que contribuya a que estos niños(as) disfruten de una vida plena.     Femtosecond-laser-written, stress-induced Nd:YVO4 waveguides preserving fluorescence and Raman gain

    We report the formation of optical waveguides in the self-Raman Nd:YVO4 laser crystal by femtosecond laser inscription. The confocal fluorescence and Raman images have revealed that the waveguide is constituted by a locally compressed area in which the original fluorescence and Raman gains of the Nd:YVO4 system are preserved. Thus the obtained structures emerge as promising candidates for highly efficient self- Raman integrated laser sources

    A simple mathematical model for anomalous diffusion via Fisher's information theory

    Starting with the relative entropy based on a previously proposed entropy function Sq[p]=dxp(x)(lnp(x))qS_q[p]=\int dx p(x)(-\ln p(x))^q, we find the corresponding Fisher's information measure. After function redefinition we then maximize the Fisher information measure with respect to the new function and obtain a differential operator that reduces to a space coordinate second derivative in the q1q\to 1 limit. We then propose a simple differential equation for anomalous diffusion and show that its solutions are a generalization of the functions in the Barenblatt-Pattle solution. We find that the mean squared displacement, up to a qq-dependent constant, has a time dependence according to K1/qt1/q\sim K^{1/q}t^{1/q}, where the parameter qq takes values q=2n12n+1q=\frac{2n-1}{2n+1} (superdiffusion) and q=2n+12n1q=\frac{2n+1}{2n-1} (subdiffusion), n1\forall n\geq 1.Comment: 13 pages,3 figure

    Hierarchical characterization of complex networks

    While the majority of approaches to the characterization of complex networks has relied on measurements considering only the immediate neighborhood of each network node, valuable information about the network topological properties can be obtained by considering further neighborhoods. The current work discusses on how the concepts of hierarchical node degree and hierarchical clustering coefficient (introduced in cond-mat/0408076), complemented by new hierarchical measurements, can be used in order to obtain a powerful set of topological features of complex networks. The interpretation of such measurements is discussed, including an analytical study of the hierarchical node degree for random networks, and the potential of the suggested measurements for the characterization of complex networks is illustrated with respect to simulations of random, scale-free and regular network models as well as real data (airports, proteins and word associations). The enhanced characterization of the connectivity provided by the set of hierarchical measurements also allows the use of agglomerative clustering methods in order to obtain taxonomies of relationships between nodes in a network, a possibility which is also illustrated in the current article.Comment: 19 pages, 23 figure

    The Physical Conditions in Starbursts Derived from Bayesian Fitting of Mid-IR SEDS: 30 Doradus as a Template

    To understand and interpret the observed Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) of starbursts, theoretical or semi-empirical SED models are necessary. Yet, while they are well-founded in theory, independent verification and calibration of these models, including the exploration of possible degeneracies between their parameters, are rarely made. As a consequence, a robust fitting method that leads to unique and reproducible results has been lacking. Here we introduce a novel approach based on Bayesian analysis to fit the Spitzer-IRS spectra of starbursts using the SED models proposed by Groves et al. (2008). We demonstrate its capabilities and verify the agreement between the derived best fit parameters and actual physical conditions by modelling the nearby, well-studied, giant HII region 30 Dor in the LMC. The derived physical parameters, such as cluster mass, cluster age, ISM pressure and covering fraction of photodissociation regions, are representative of the 30 Dor region. The inclusion of the emission lines in the modelling is crucial to break degeneracies. We investigate the limitations and uncertainties by modelling sub-regions, which are dominated by single components, within 30 Dor. A remarkable result for 30 Doradus in particular is a considerable contribution to its mid-infrared spectrum from hot ({\simeq} 300K) dust. The demonstrated success of our approach will allow us to derive the physical conditions in more distant, spatially unresolved starbursts.Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures.     Revealing a Ring-like Cluster Complex in a Tidal Tail of the Starburst Galaxy NGC 2146

    We report the discovery of a ring-like cluster complex in the starburst galaxy NGC 2146. The Ruby Ring, so named due to its appearance, shows a clear ring-like distribution of star clusters around a central object. It is located in one of the tidal streams which surround the galaxy. NGC 2146 is part of the Snapshot Hubble U-band Cluster Survey (SHUCS). The WFC3/F336W data has added critical information to the available archival Hubble Space Telescope imaging set of NGC 2146, allowing us to determine ages, masses, and extinctions of the clusters in the Ruby Ring. These properties have then been used to investigate the formation of this extraordinary system. We find evidence of a spatial and temporal correlation between the central cluster and the clusters in the ring. The latter are about 4 Myr younger than the central cluster, which has an age of 7 Myr. This result is supported by the H alpha emission which is strongly coincident with the ring, and weaker at the position of the central cluster. From the derived total H alpha luminosity of the system we constrain the star formation rate density to be quite high, e.g. ~ 0.47 Msun/yr/kpc^2. The Ruby Ring is the product of an intense and localised burst of star formation, similar to the extended cluster complexes observed in M51 and the Antennae, but more impressive because is quite isolated. The central cluster contains only 5 % of the total stellar mass in the clusters that are determined within the complex. The ring-like morphology, the age spread, and the mass ratio support a triggering formation scenario for this complex. We discuss the formation of the Ruby Ring in a "collect & collapse" framework. The predictions made by this model agree quite well with the estimated bubble radius and expansion velocity produced by the feedback from the central cluster, making the Ruby Ring an interesting case of triggered star formation.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, 1 table; Accepted for publication in MNRA

    The stellar content of low redshift radio galaxies from near-infrared spectroscopy

    We present medium spectral resolution near-infrared (NIR) HK-band spectra for 8 low redshift (z<0.06) radio galaxies to study the NIR stellar properties of their host galaxies. As a homogeneous comparison sample, we used 9 inactive elliptical galaxies that were observed with similar resolution and wavelength range. The aim of the study is to compare the NIR spectral properties of radio galaxies to those of inactive early-type galaxies and, furthermore, produce the first NIR HK-band spectra for low redshift radio galaxies. For both samples spectral indices of several diagnostic absorption features, SiI(1.589microns), CO(1.619microns), NaI(2.207microns), CaI(2.263microns), CO(>2.29microns), were measured. To characterize the age of the populations, the measured EWs of the absorption features were fitted with the corresponding theoretical evolutionary curves of the EWs calculated by the stellar synthesis model. On average, EW(CO 2.29) of radio galaxies is somewhat greater than that of inactive ellipticals. Most likely, EW(CO 2.29) is not significantly affected by dilution, and thus indicating that elliptical galaxies containing AGN are in a different stage in their evolution than inactive ellipticals. This is also supported by comparing other NIR features, such as CaI and NaI, with each other. Absorption features are consistent with the intermediate age stellar population, suggesting that host galaxies contain both an old and intermediate age components. It is consistent with previous optical spectroscopy studies which have shown evidence on the intermediate age (~2 Gyr) stellar population of radio galaxies, and also in some of the early-type galaxies. The existence of intermediate age population is a link between the star formation episode, possibly induced by interaction or merging event, and the triggering of the nuclear activity.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure
