In this paper, four specimens with different thickness of top and seat angle with double web angle connections are experimentally tested and numerically modeled. The model has been solved by means of Abaqus® finite element package. Moment rotation curves obtained from the experiments are compared with those obtained from FE models and good agreement is observed. These results validate this numerical modeling in order to use it in future studies on angle connections.
Sugar nucleotide quantification by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry reveals a distinct profile in Plasmodium falciparum sexual stage parasites
The obligate intracellular lifestyle of Plasmodium falciparum
and the difficulties to obtain sufficient amounts of biological
material has hampered the study of specific metabolic pathways
in the malaria parasite. Thus, for example, the pools of sugar
nucleotides required to fuel glycosylation reactions have never
been studied in-depth in well-synchronized asexual parasites or
in other stages of its life cycle. These metabolites are of
critical importance, especially considering the renewed interest
in the presence of N -, O - and other glycans in key parasite
proteins. In this work, we adapted a liquid chromatography
tandem mass spectrometry method based on the use of porous
graphitic carbon (PGC) columns and MS-friendly solvents to
quantify sugar nucleotides in the malaria parasite. We report on
the thorough quantification of the pools of these metabolites
throughout the intraerythrocytic cycle of P. falciparum The
sensitivity of the method enabled for the first time the
targeted analysis of these glycosylation precursors in
gametocytes, the parasite sexual stages that are transmissible
to the mosquito vector
The authors presented an experimental work in rabbits. They

and "Ligamentation") of tendon autograft used to replace the
anterior cruciate ligament (18 rabbits studied) by histological techniques
Efficient Processing of Raster and Vector Data
[Abstract] In this work, we propose a framework to store and manage spatial data, which includes new efficient algorithms to perform operations accepting as input a raster dataset and a vector dataset. More concretely, we present algorithms for solving a spatial join between a raster and a vector dataset imposing a restriction on the values of the cells of the raster; and an algorithm for retrieving K objects of a vector dataset that overlap cells of a raster dataset, such that the K objects are those overlapping the highest (or lowest) cell values among all objects. The raster data is stored using a compact data structure, which can directly manipulate compressed data without the need for prior decompression. This leads to better running times and lower memory consumption. In our experimental evaluation comparing our solution to other baselines, we obtain the best space/time trade-offs.This work has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 690941; from the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (PGE and ERDF) grant numbers TIN2016-78011-C4-1-R; TIN2016-77158 C4-3-R; RTC-2017-5908-7; from Xunta de Galicia (co-founded with ERDF) grant numbers ED431C 2017/58; ED431G/01; IN852A 2018/14; and University of Bío-Bío grant numbers 192119 2/R; 195119 GI/VCXunta de Galicia; ED431C 2017/58Xunta de Galicia; ED431G/01Xunta de Galicia; IN852A 2018/14Universidad del Bío-Bío (Chile); 192119 2/RUniversidad del Bío-Bío (Chile); 195119 GI/V
Fullerene based devices for molecular electronics
We have investigated the electronic properties of a C_60 molecule in between
carbon nanotube leads. This problem has been tackled within a quantum chemical
treatment utilizing a density functional theory-based LCAO approach combined
with the Landauer formalism. Owing to low-dimensionality, electron transport is
very sensitive to the strength and geometry of interfacial bonds. Molecular
contact between interfacial atoms and electrodes gives rise to a complex
conductance dependence on the electron energy exhibiting spectral features of
both the molecule and electrodes. These are attributed to the electronic
structure of the C_60 molecule and to the local density of states of the leads,
respectively.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, to appear in Physica
