    The smartphone in the context of the classroom in the primary school and in the higher education

    Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are implementing unique changes in the most diverse fields nowadays. The smartphone, in particular, because of its technological convergence characteristics and because it is a tool that everyone owns and carries with them, it is an added value for the school and for the student that owns a personalized mobile resource. However, the school is resistant to its inclusion in education and there are contradictory studies: some reveal perverse effects on education, but others show their potentialities [1-3]. This fact shows the importance of teacher training in the selection of a methodology that responds to the inclusion of this tool in education. How to use the smartphone in education? It is a challenge that we intend to answer by showing the potential of this emerging technology in the process of teaching and learning with children from 6 to 9 years of age (primary school) and with adults of higher education (engineering course). In this study, the use of smartphones was observed in three classrooms of the primary school, involving about 60 children, and in higher education classes, involving about 50 students. We used a qualitative approach, case study. Data were collected from direct observers of the educational practices in the different contexts. For data analysis, we used description and data interpretation. The results show that teachers adopt a socio-constructivist methodology centring the student in the learning process: (1) in the use of the tool (technical domain), (2) in the accomplishment of the task, (3) in the reflection and argumentation of the results obtained, (4) knowledge sharing, (5) behaviour management, attitudes, task leadership and (6) self-criticism. It is also verified that they use the smartphone as a resource to motivate the student, stimulate concentration on the task, facilitate the understanding of content, encourage participation in the activity and promote interaction and sharing with others. In addition, the use of smartphones generates emotions and develops cross curricular skills in education as well as facilitating access to information, stimulates the creation of creative engineering projects that have satisfied students not only for the novelty, but also for finding that a pocket tool can perform interesting monitoring and remote control tasks. Thus, the results show that smartphones have a high potential in education, as they can promote an opportunity for methodological recreation and modernization, offer research potential, the development of new educational equipment and tools, new ways of consolidating and evaluating curricular content, development of other expressive abilities in the academic, social and personal life of an individual, as well as develop autonomy and stimulate the satisfaction of the students by returning to education the motivation of the student.     Conservadorismo coroado: movimentos monarquistas no Brasil atual

    Using a lay out of ‘restorationists’ groups that were active in the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth century as a basis, the following paper seeks to evaluate the attitudes of the current Brazilian Imperial House and of political groups that supports it in present times. In order to do this, it utilizes online material available on monarchist websites as well as an interview with a monarchist militant. The paper suggests that monarchists are trying to take advantage of the political crisis taking place in the second decade of the twentyfirst century in Brazil, joining forces with broader conservative movements that are now gaining strength among Brazilian society. In addition to the restoration and a denunciation of a supposedly inherent instability in the Republic, current monarchists focus their discourse on the opposition of left-wing groups and an emphasis on Christian principles.Partindo de um mapeamento dos grupos “restauracionistas” que atuaram entre o final do século XIX e a metade do século XX, o artigo posteriormente volta-se à análise dos posicionamentos da atual Casa Imperial Brasileira e de movimentos que a apoiam no tempo presente. Para tanto, vale-se especialmente de materiais disponíveis em portais monarquistas na internet e de entrevista realizada com um militante. A pesquisa sugere que os atuais grupos monarquistas tentam instrumentalizar a crise política instalada no Brasil da segunda década do século XXI, somando-se a movimentos conservadores mais amplos que se espalham pela sociedade.     Neste trabalho, consideramos um problema de valor inicial para uma equação de advecção-difusão duplamente não linear, e apresentamos um valor crítico de κ até o qual o problema de valor inicial tem solução global independente do dado inicial u0, e a partir do qual as soluçõess globais ainda podem existir, mas para dados iniciais u0 satisfazendo a determinadas condições. Para isso, supomos que a função f(x,t,u) no termo advectivo, escrito na forma divergente, satisfaz a certas condições a respeito de sua variação em Rn, e usamos também o decrescimento na norma L1(Rn) e um controle para a norma L∞(Rn) da solução u(·,t).In this work, we consider a initial-value problem for an doubly nonlinear advection-diffusion equation, and we present a critical value of κ up to wich the initial-value problem has global solution independent of the initial data u0, and from which global solutions may still exists, but from initial data u0 satisfying certain conditions. For this, we suppose that the function f(x,t,u) in the advection term, writted in the divergent form, satisfies certain conditions about your variation in Rn , and we also use the decrease of the norm L1(Rn) and an control for the norm L∞(Rn) of solution u(·,t)

    IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DO BALANCED SCORECARD: UM CASO PRÁTICO

    The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the first results of the utilization of the Balanced Scorecard as a tool of performance management in the Hospital de Caridade of Carazinho. The process is described by the analysis of the Balanced Scorecard's four perspectives: financial perspective, customer perspective, internal business processes perspective, and learning and growth perspective, besides the community perspective adopted by the Hospital. The evaluation of the results aims to obtain subsidies to propose improvements in the conduction of the process. At the end of the study the conclusion is that, however short the period of effective implementation, the results obtained did not fully meet the expectations. The achievement of results that are not altogether satisfactory should not be viewed as something negative, but rather as possibilities of improvement, warning managers to develop a greater commitment, especially in the framing of clearer and more realistic strategic maps.El principal objetivo de este trabajo es hacer una evaluación de los primeros resultados de la utilización del Balanced Scorecard como herramienta de gestión del desempeño en el Hospital de Caridade de Carazinho. El proceso es descripto por el análisis de las cuatro perspectivas del Balanced Scorecard, perspectiva de financiación, de los clientes, de los procesos internos y del aprendizado y crecimiento, además de la perspectiva de la comunidad, adoptada por el Hospital. La evaluación de los resultados tiene el objetivo de obtener subsidios para sugerir mejorías en la conducción del proceso. Al final del estudio se concluye que, aunque el período de efectiva implementación sea curto, los resultados obtenidos han quedado un poco abajo de las expectativas. La obtención de resultados no plenamente satisfatorios no se debe encarar como algo negativo, pero como posibilidades de mejorías, serviendo de alerta para que la administración desarrolle un mayor comprometimiento, principalmente en la estructuración de mapas estratégicos más claros y realistas.O principal objetivo deste trabalho é fazer uma avaliação dos primeiros resultados da utilização do Balanced Scorecard como ferramenta de gestão de desempenho no Hospital de Caridade de Carazinho. O processo é descrito pela análise das quatro perspectivas do Balanced Scorecard: perspectiva financeira, dos clientes, dos processos internos e do aprendizado e crescimento, além da perspectiva da comunidade, adotada pelo Hospital. A avaliação dos resultados tem o objetivo de obter subsídios para sugerir melhorias na condução do processo. Ao final do estudo conclui-se que, embora o período de efetiva implementação tenha sido curto os resultados obtidos ficaram um pouco abaixo das expectativas.     Potential cross-contamination of similar Giardia duodenalis assemblage in children and pet dogs in southern Brazil, as determined by PCR-RFLP

    Giardia duodenalis is an enteric parasite that has distinct genetic groups. Human infections are mainly caused by assemblages A and B, although sporadic infections by assemblages C and D have also been reported. Animals can be infected by a wide range of assemblages (A to H). The aim of this study is to identify the assemblages and sub-assemblages of G. duodenalis with zoonotic features in fecal samples of school-aged children, and in dogs that coexist in the same households in Lages, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Fecal samples of 91 children and 108 dogs were obtained and G. duodenalis cysts were detected in samples from 11 (12.08%) children and 10 (9.25%) dogs. DNA extracted from the 21 positive samples was analyzed by PCR-RFLP, using the gdh gene. Results showed the presence of sub-assemblages AI (2/11), AII (4/11), BIII (2/11), and BIV(3/11) among children and AI (5/10) and BIV(3/10) in dogs, with zoonotic characteristics, and the carnivore specific assemblage C (2/10). G. duodenalis was found to infect both children and dogs living in the same household, with the same sub-assemblage (BIV) indicating that pet dogs are a potential risk of transmission of G. duodenalis to humans

    OCCURRENCE OF Calodium hepaticum (BANCROFT, 1893) MORAVEC, 1982 EGGS IN FECES OF DOGS AND CATS IN LAGES, SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL

    This study aims to report the incidence of Calodium hepaticum among dogs and cats, pets or stray animals, captured by the Zoonosis Control Center (CCZ) in Lages, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Fecal samples from 108 pet dogs and eight pet cats, and from 357 stray dogs and 97 stray cats, captured by CCZ, were analyzed within the period from July 2010 to November 2012. Coproparasitological exams were performed by techniques of sedimentation, centrifuge-flotation, and simple flotation. Among 465 fecal samples from dogs and 105 from cats, the overall spurious infections for C. hepaticum eggs were 1.05%. For dogs, this positivity was 0.43% and for cats it was 3.81%. The two positive dogs were stray and out of the four cats, three were stray and one was a pet. Although the occurrence of C. hepaticum eggs was low, these data reveal the existence of infected rodents, especially in public places, since, out of the six infected animals, five (83.33%) were stray. These results are discussed and analyzed with an emphasis on the risk to public health

    A formação do cidadão Ateniesne: origem mítica e histórica / The training of the Ateniesne citizen: mythical and historical origin

    Este trabalho tem como temática a discussão da origem da cidade de Atenas, na Grécia antiga, e de como se deu formação do cidadão ateniense na cidade-estado de Atenas, através de uma educação que utilizava do conhecimento histórico e de mitologia grega como instrumentos formativos. O objetivo é mostrar como o grego do período clássico (V e IV a.C) tinha no conceito de autochthon justificativa para sua origem na terra pátria e, desta forma, reforçavam a sua cidadania ateniense como legítima e inquestionável. A ideia de que eram ‘nascido da terra”, ou seja, autochthon servia para mostrar que eram os legítimos habitantes da Hélade, por isso helenos, e nunca colonos ou invasores. Para isso, buscavam educar o cidadão ateniense através da sua história e da mitologia, que se fundiam através da sua literatura e sua religião mítica. Destaca-se ainda nesta discussão como o grego certificava que a cidade de Atenas tinha sido fundada pelo herói mítico, Teseu, seu oikites, e como esta transitou de uma organização estruturada na comunidade familiar do oikos, sob o domínio do poder patriarcal e das leis divinas, para uma polis democrática conduzida pelo cidadão e pelas leis escritas, atingindo a condição de cidade grega por excelência no século V a.C.
