Topography of Si epitaxial monolayers obtained on Si (001) substrate by computer simulations
Fractal analysis was used for the description of the geometry of the clusters formed within the Monte Carlo simulation of the first monolayer growth on Si substrate. Pulse laser deposition method was assumed for the epitaxy. Layers were obtained for various substrate temperatures varying in the range from 600 K to 800 K. The topography of plane clusters formed were characterised by their fractal box-like dimension. The relation between this dimension and the shape of the clusters was addressed
The influence of habitat conditions on the yield and size of selected plant indices of open pollinated cultivars of winter rape
Rozwój i plonowanie zróżnicowanego morfologicznie łanu rzepaku ozimego I. Produkcyjność i cechy morfologiczne roślin
The research aim was to evaluate the productivity of two winter oilseed rape
cultivars, Adam and Poznaniak, in three localities in the south of Poland: Głubczyce,
Pawłowice and Prusy. The scope of comparisons was broaden through a detailed
biometrical analysis of plants and the spectral properties (GAI, LAI and SPAD) of
canopy, which determine oilseed rape productivity. At the optimal plant density of two
hybrid cultivars of winter oilseed rape: Adam and Poznaniak, three groups of plants
differing morphologically and productively were identified. Strongly branching winter
oilseed rape of large biomass determined the final density only in 27.2%, but it had the
biggest share in seed yield per area unit, reaching 52.5%. The share of small plants of
oilseed rape in the canopy reached 37.6%, but they played a minor role in the creation of
seed yield. High dynamics of development ratio of winter oilseed rape plants and canopy
led to the increased height of plants which, however, was accompanied by a lower number
of branches and siliques and a diminished diameter of main shoot and lateral branches.Celem badań, przeprowadzonych w trzech miejscowościach Polski południowej:
Głubczycach, Pawłowicach i Prusach, była ocena produkcyjności dwóch odmian
mieszańcowych rzepaku ozimego: Poznaniak i Adam. Zasięg porównań poszerzono
o szczegółową analizę cech biometrycznych roślin i właściwości spektralnych (GAI, LAI
i SPAD) łanu rzepaku ozimego, determinujących produkcyjność. W warunkach optymalnej
obsady roślin mieszańcowych odmian: Adam i Poznaniak w łanie rzepaku ozimego
wydzieliły się trzy grupy roślin o zróżnicowanych cechach morfologicznych i produkcyjności.
Silnie rozgałęzione rośliny rzepaku ozimego, o dużej biomasie, chociaż decydowały
tylko w 27,2% o końcowym zagęszczeniu, to miały największy wkład w plon nasion
z jednostki powierzchni, ponieważ partycypowały w niego w 52,5%. Przeciwstawna
znaczny udział – 37,6% w zagęszczeniu łanu, to jednak w plonie nasion odgrywały
Comparison of crop yield potential and the impact of cutting height of canopy on the formation of harvest index of cultivars of winter oilseed rape
W latach 2010–2012 przeprowadzono dwie serie ścisłych doświadczeń polowych w trzech miejscowościach Polski południowej, w których oceniono plonowanie i wartość wskaźnika plonowania dwóch odmian mieszańcowych rzepaku: Adam i Poznaniak. Podniesienie cięcia roślin rzepaku ozimego do 60 cm poprawiało wartości wskaźnika plonowania (g·g-1) odpowiednio o 0,079 (Adam) i 0,070 (Poznaniak). Wyższe straty powietrznie suchej biomasy ścierni rzepaku ozimego w sezonie wegetacji 2011/2012, wynoszące 4,03 t·ha-1, stwierdzono przy wysokości cięcia na 60 cm.In the years 2010–2012 two series of field experiments have been carried out in three southern Polish localities where the yield and value of the harvest index of two hybrid cultivars of winter oilseed rape Adam and Poznaniak were evaluated.
The applied simulation used the canopy cutting height at 20, 40 and 60 cm. The mass and diameter of the lower part of the stem segments that·have remained in the field in the form of stubble were assessed. Production potential of winter oilseed rape canopy was higher in the western part of the country – Głubczyce. New hybrid cultivars yielded at a similar level. The cv Adam yielded higher due to a slightly larger plant density and greater number of seeds per silique and also had a higher rate of harvest index. Increasing plant cutting during harvest of winter oilseed rape optimize the rate harvest index in both cultivars. Increasing of cutting winter oilseed rape to 60 cm improved values of harvest index (g·g-1), respectively 0.079 (Adam) and 0.070 (Poznaniak). Higher losses of dry biomass of winter oilseed rape stubble, growing in season 2011/2012, and amounting to 4.03 t·ha-1 was found at the cutting height of 60 cm
Rozwój i plonowanie zróżnicowanego morfologicznie łanu rzepaku ozimego II.
The scientific literature rarely describes the harvest index of winter oilseed
rape, most probably due to difficulties in its estimation, resulting from the cracking of
siliques. Our work aimed at evaluating the harvest index of winter oilseed rape, depending
on the cutting height of plants of different size categories, described in the 1st part of our
work. Plants harvested from the field were dried, weighed and then 10 cm sections of the
main shoot were cut off, simulating crop cutting during combine harvest. The obtained
sections of plant shoots were weighed and a diameter of each was measured individually.
Due to the specific distribution of dry mass in the lower section of the main shoot, an
improvement of the harvest index value with raising the height of cutting the plants was
obtained. Cuts at height of 60 cm increased the harvest index value by 0.08-0.09.
Moreover, cutting oilseed rape at height of 60 cm is technically easier and fragments of
the main and lateral shoots are left on the field as high stubble of an estimated mass of
1967.5 kg·ha-1. Moreover, this technological solution may optimize harvesting, due to
speeding it up.W dostępnej literaturze związanej z rzepakiem ozimym niezbyt często
pracy. Rośliny zebrane z pól produkcyjnych suszono, ważono, a następnie odcinano
10-centymetrowe fragmenty pędów, symulując różne wysokości cięcia kombajnowego.
Odcięte fragmenty ważono i mierzono ich średnicę. Ze względu na specyficzne rozłożenie
suchej masy w dolnych odcinkach pędu głównego rzepaku, podwyższanie wysokości
cięcia roślin w czasie zbioru żniwnego wpływało na poprawę wartości indeksu żniwnego.
Cięcie roślin rzepaku ozimego na poziomie 60 cm podniosło wartości indeksu żniwnego
i bocznych, w formie wysokiej ścierni, o szacunkowej masie 1967,5 kg·ha-1, a takie
rozwiązanie technologiczne może optymalizować zbiór w czasie żniw poprzez
przyspieszenie wykonalności tej czynności

Confirmation of the association between high levels of immunoglobulin E food sensitization and eczema in infancy: An international study
Confirmation of the association between high levels of immunoglobulin E food sensitization and eczema in infancy: an international study
Background Studies of Australian infants have reported that more than 80% of those with moderate atopic eczema (AE) have high levels of IgE food sensitization (IgE-FS) that are commonly associated with IgE food allergy.
Objectives To explore the relationship between high levels of IgE-FS and AE in a large cohort of young children with eczema participating in a multi-centre, international study.
Methods Two thousand one hundred and eighty-four subjects (mean age 17.6 months, range 11.8-25.4; 1246 males) with active eczema from atopic families from 94 centres in 12 countries were studied. Clinical history, Scoring Atopic Dermatitis index as a measure of eczema severity and CAP-FEIA measurements for total IgE and IgE antibody levels to cow milk, egg and peanut were entered into a database. If CAP-FEIA levels exceeded previously reported age-specific cut-off levels for 95% positive predictive values (PPVs) for food allergy, subjects were defined as having high-risk IgE-FS (HR-IgE-FS).
Results Serum was available from 2048 patients; 55.5% were atopic. The frequency of HR-IgE-FS to milk, egg and/or peanut was the greatest in patients whose eczema developed in the first 3 months of life and the least in those whose eczema developed after 12 months (P < 0.0001). In a regression analysis to allow for potential confounding factors, children with HR-IgE-FS had the most severe eczema and the youngest age of onset (P < 0.001); 64% of infants with severe eczema of onset-age <3 months had HR-IgE-FS.
Conclusion Early-onset severe eczema in infancy was associated with HR-IgE-FS. Clinical implications Food allergies should be routinely assessed in infants with moderate or severe eczema. Capsule summary In eczematous infants, the earlier the age of onset, and the greater the severity of eczema, the greater the frequency of associated high levels of IgE-FS
