PELATIHAN BASIC ENGLISH FOR COMPUTING UNTUK SISWA SMK TEKSAS PURWAKARTA

Berdasarkan hasil analisis wawancara terhadap guru-guru di SMK Teksas Purwakarta  yang dilakukan pada bulan Juli 2019 di sekolah tersebut teridentifikasi beberapa masalah pembelajaran di kelas, yakni: 1) belum tersedianya pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang khusus sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa; dan 2) Kurangnya minat pengembangan materi bahan ajar sesuai dengan bidang yang dikaji. Permasalahan yang teridentifikasi tersebut merupakan permasalahan yang mendesak untuk segera diatasi terutama mengenai belum tersedianya pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang khusus sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa. Tujuan dari pelatihan ini adalah memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan bagi siswa dalam mengembangkan materi bahan ajar sesuai dengan yang dibutuhkan siswa itu sendiri yaitu English for Specific Purposes (ESP) atau bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan khusus. English for Specific Purpose (ESP) adalah suatu pendekatan baru dalam pengajaran dan penggunaan bahasa Inggris untuk bidang dan kajian khusus yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan bidang ilmu dan profesi pengguna Bahasa Inggris tersebut. Materi Basic English for Computing yang diberikan kepada siswa kejuruan Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan (TKJ) yaitu pembelajaran disesuaikan dengan bidang yang dikaji. Pelatihan ini telah berhasil memberikan solusi terhadap permasalahan tersebut dengan memperkenalkan dan memberikan informasi terkait materi bahan ajar yang sesuai dengan bidang yang dikaji dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa di kelas Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan (TKJ)

EFL Students’ Experiences in a Flipped Reading Comprehension Classroom

The aim of this research is to investigate EFL students’ experiences that appear in EFL students during the application of the flipped classroom learning model. The research was conducted by using a qualitative approach and descriptive method. The research participants were nine first-grade students at one of the public senior high school in Karawang. The participants were divided into three groups: three low-level students, three middle-level students, and three high-level students. To collect the data, researchers used were observation, interview, and documentation. This research found that the application of a flipped classroom provided positive experiences for students. The use of the video in this learning model made students excited. However, the use of online flipped classrooms appeared several challenges such as students must have internet access while they were learning and the internet connection, they have must be stable so that learning activities run well

THE ANALYSIS OF STUDENT’S MISBEHAVIOR IN LEARNING ENGLISH LESSON

Student’s misbehavior, sometimes, can interrupt the process of teaching and learning. Moreover, one of students didn’t realize that his/her misbehavior can hinder their achievement on English lesson. The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out the characteristics of student’s misbehavior, and (2) to find out the factor of student’s misbehavior in learning English lesson. The research used qualitative approach. The participants of this research were 20 students at SDN Cadaskertajaya 1 Karawang. The results of this research showed that: (1) there are three kinds of student’s misbehavior to English lesson, There are: (a) in-attention, for examples daydreaming, doodling and looking at the window; (b) disruption, for examples talking with friends, laughing in-appropriately and shouting out during instruction; (c) annoying others, for examples provoking, teasing, and calling names. (2) The factor of student’s misbehavior is affected by internal and external. The internal factor is students itself, for instances: attention seeking and learning difficulties. In other hand, the external factor is from the teacher and society

PENDAMPINGAN PEMBUATAN E-MODUL SIGIL SOFTWARE BERBASIS CONTENT LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING (CLIL) PADA PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA INGGRIS SMK DI KABUPATEN KARAWANG

ABSTRAKKemajuan teknologi membangun perubahan dalam berbagai bidang, khususnya dalam bidang pendidikan. Semua elemen dalam bidang tersebut dituntut untuk dapat memanfaatkan perkembangan teknologi, seperti hal nya guru yang harus mampu beralih dari penggunaan modul cetak ke modul elektronik (e-modul). Tujuan dari pelaksanaan program pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan dan melatih keterampilan teknologi para guru bahasa Inggris SMK di Karawang. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan memberikan pendampingan membuat e-modul interaktif berbasis Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) menggunakan Sigil Software kepada 15 orang guru Bahasa Inggris SMK di Karawang. Pendampingan pembuatan e-modul ini dilakukan dengan metode ceramah, tanya jawab, serta praktik pembuatan e-modul. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di laboratorium komputer SMK Saintek Nurul Muslimin. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini menunjukan bahwa program pengadian kepada masyarakat mampu meningkatkan kompetensi para guru bahasa Inggris dalam penguasaan materi dan pengajaran sesuai dengan jurusan bidang keahlian di sekolah. Selain itu, dapat memberikan manfaat yang sangat besar dan tepat sasaran bagi guru Bahasa Inggris. Bentuk pendampingan seperti ini merupakan bentuk yang sangat efektif untuk memberikan tambahan wawasan serta pengetahuan baru di bidang teknologi informasi di luar proses pembelajaran yang sekolah berikan untuk meningkatkan kualitas guru. Kata kunci: bahasa inggris; content language integrated learning (clil); e-modul; pendampingan; sigil software. ABSTRACTThe Advances in technology build changes in various fields, especially in the field of education. All elements in these fields can take advantage of technological developments, such as teachers who must be able to switch from using print modules to electronic modules (e-modules). This community service activity is carried out by providing assistance in the form of interactive e-modules based on Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) using Sigil Software to 15 English Vocational High School teachers in Karawang. Assistance in the manufacture of e-modules is carried out by means of lectures, questions and answers, and the practice of making e-modules. This activity was carried out in the computer laboratory of SMK Saintek Nurul Muslimin. The purpose of implementing this community service program is to improve and train the technology skills of vocational English teachers in Karawang. The results of the implementation of this activity show that the community service program is able to improve the competence of English teachers in mastering the material and teaching in accordance with the field of expertise at school. In addition, it can provide enormous and targeted benefits for English teachers. This form of assistance is a very effective form of providing additional insight and new knowledge in the field of technology outside of the learning process provided by schools to improve the quality of teachers.             Keywords: assistance; e-modul; english language; content language integrated learning (clil); sigil software

WORKSHOP PEMBUATAN MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN INTERAKTIF PADA KETERAMPILAN MEMBACA BAHASA INGGRIS BAGI GURU-GURU SMP

ABSTRAKEra revolusi 5.0 memiliki peran penting dalam sektor kehidupan, tidak terkecuali sektor pendidikan. Kebutuhan implementasi teknologi dalam sektor pendidikan merupakan penunjang terbentuknya siswa berkarakter dan berdaya saing tinggi. Pembuatan multimedia interaktif diaktualisasikan sebagai respon perkembangan teknologi yang mengacu langsung terhadap produk digital sebagai media pada pembelajaran membaca bahasa Inggris. Workshop ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi pengetahuan dan keterampilan guru-guru SMPN 1 Cilamaya Kulon dalam pembuatan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis digital dengan menggunakan Microsoft Powerpoint.  Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode pelatihan dan workshop dengan melibatkan 3 tahapan pelaksanaan, yaitu (1) pra-kegiatan (2) pelaksanaan kegiatan, dan (3) evaluasi pelaksanaan. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini menunjukan bahwa program kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat mampu meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam berteknologi untuk menunjang proses pembelajaran yang kreatif, inovatif, dan interaktif. Kata kunci: keterampilan membaca bahasa inggris; media pembelajaran interaktif; workshop. ABSTRACTThe era of revolution 5.0 has an important role in the life sector, and the education sector is no exception. The need for technology implementation in the education sector is a support for the formation of students with high character and competitiveness. The creation of interactive multimedia is actualized as a response to technological developments that refer directly to digital products as a medium for learning to read English. This workshop was held with the aim of improving the competence of knowledge and skills of teachers of SMPN 1 Cilamaya Kulon in making digital-based interactive learning media using Microsoft Powerpoint.  This community service activity is carried out using training and workshop methods involving 3 stages of implementation, namely (1) pre-activity (2) implementation of activities, and (3) evaluation of implementation. The results of the implementation of this activity show that the community service activity program is able to improve the competence of teachers in technology to support a creative, innovative, and interactive learning process. Keywords: english reading skills; interactive learning media; workshop

Analysis of Reading Interest of English Education of Students on Scientific Articles

This study aims to determine how interested students are in reading scientific articles in the English Education Department and to find out what factors make students interested in reading scientific articles in the English Education Department. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method. The results showed that the reading interest of English education students towards scientific articles was quite good. Reading interest arises from within students because of the demands of academics to achieve educational goals and ideals. The factors that make students interested in reading scientific articles are educational. The lecture material and the completion of final assignments require students to read many references to scientific articles. Then there is the motivation factor, where the motivation comes from the lecturer who always provides support so that students read more scientific articles to increase knowledge and insight and motivation from within because of the demands of lecture material or completion of final assignments to achieve their goals

EDMODO AS EDUCATIONAL SOCIAL NETWORK IN TEACHING COURSE DESIGN OF EYL

This research is conducted to find out Edmodo can increase student’s ability in learning course design of EYL and student’s perception in learning course design of EYL by using Edmodo. A mixed method was used to collect quantitative and qualitative data. In answering those two research questions, the researcher used test (pre-test and post-test) to collect quantitative data and also used interview as data gathering technique to collect qualitative data. The findings of the research showed that: (1) Edmodo can increase student’s ability in learning course design of EYL. It is proven by the score of Independent T-test -0,741 and sig (2 tailed) was higher than degree of significance (0,462 < 0,05). (2) Student’s perception in learning course design of EYL by using Edmodo showed that Edmodo in learning course design of EYL can help students more understand the materials because they can get more information about materials of EYL especially course design of EYL; they can discuss the materials each other anywhere and anytime; they felt more interesting and happy; they are more confident to express their ideas, therefore they can be more active in learning course design of EYL

Pelatihan Aplikasi Hot Potatoes Sebagai Bahan Ajar Berbasis Ict Guna Meningkatkan Profesionalisme Guru Sdit Telukjambe Timur Dan Sekolah Islam At-Taubah Karawang

ABSTRAKBerdasarkan hasil analisis wawancara terhadap guru-guru di SDIT NU Telukjambe Timur dan Sekolah Islam At-Taubah Karawang yang dilakukan pada bulan Maret 2018 di sekolah masing-masing teridentifikasi beberapa masalah pembelajaran di kelas, yakni: 1) rendahnya kesadaran guru akan pentingnya Teknologi, Informasi, dan Komunikasi (TIK) dalam pembelajaran; 2) kurangnya pemanfaatan media pembelajaran di kelas; 3) rendahnya paparan (exposure) siswa terhadap akses materi ajar dan latihan yang interaktif dan menyenangkan; dan 4) Metode belajar konvensional yang kurang memotivasi siswa untuk belajar. Permasalahan yang teridentifikasi tersebut merupakan permasalahan yang mendesak untuk segera diatasi terutama mengenai rendahnya keasadaran guru dalam penguasaan teknologi dan menciptakan kelas multimedia. Tujuan dari pelatihan ini adalah memberikan ketrampilan bagi guru-guru dalam mengembangkan bahan ajar berbasis ICT menggunankan  Hot Potatoes. Hot Potatoes merupakan tool atau aplikasi untuk membuat Bank Soal interaktif berbasis web. Program Hot Potatoes terdiri atas enam program yang dapat digunakan untuk membuat materi pengajaran secara interaktif berbasis web. Aplikasi ini memungkinkan siswa untuk untuk mengakses soal-soal latihan materi pembelajaran. Metode pelatihan adalah dengan ceramah tentang Hot Potatoes, praktek secara langsung dan pendampingan pembuatan  media  pembelajaran berbasis Hot Potatoes.Pelatihan ini telah berhasil memberikan solusi terhadap permasalahan tersebut dengan memperkenalkan media yang memuat soal-soal yang interaktif, kreatif, dan menyenangkan sebagai media untuk berlatih siswa. Kata Kunci : Bahan ajar ICT, Hot Potatoe
