If this street was mine: sexuality and appropriation of space on São Paulo's “gay street”

Uma rua é feita de muitas coisas, inclusive de identidades. Uma rua não é só caminho para se chegar a outro lugar, espaço de acesso ao público ou coletivo ou lugar de interdição a quem quer evitar o perigo e a violência. Uma rua pode ser espaço para se estar e para se ser; ela em si pode estar e ser. A Rua Frei Caneca, localizada oficialmente no bairro da Consolação, imediações do Centro da cidade de São Paulo e próxima à Avenida Paulista, é o foco do presente trabalho, o qual traz à baila onde ela pode estar e o que ela pode ser. Pensar que a Frei Caneca pode se localizar em outro lugar que não o bairro ou a região oficialmente alocada pode parecer sem sentido. Mas, onde ela está afinal? E o que ela é além de uma rua? Paralela à Rua Augusta, esta conhecida outrora pela prostituição feminina, a Frei Caneca tem passado por diversas transformações imobiliárias que têm afetado sua constituição social e o entendimento de sua identidade. Sem querer sugerir uma proeminência do incremento em prédios e comércios na última década, aponto como isso tem ajudado a sedimentar a identidade da rua. Ao menos desde 2003 ela tem sido conhecida, e reconhecida, como a “rua gay” de São Paulo, após uma situação de conflito entre um casal gay e a administração do Shopping Frei Caneca, inaugurado em 2001. Em 2008 o projeto de oficializá-la como rua gay trouxe à tona uma série de atores cujos discursos buscam legitimidade ante a autorização de quem poderia falar sobre e pela rua. E há gays na rua? Mas há tantos assim? O que poderia significar ser gay na Frei Caneca? Esta dissertação é resultado da pesquisa que buscou entender o que diversos atores presentes na rua entendem por “rua gay”, por sua presença nela e como entendem a rua em si. Onde ela está, do que se aproxima e do que se afasta. Com foco privilegiado nos frequentadores que utilizam a rua como espaço de lazer noturno, ou caminho obrigatório antes de irem para o lugar de destino, a pesquisa busca demonstrar que uma rua e qualquer outro espaço citadino têm mobilidade: o concreto caminha, muda, se desfaz.A street is made of many things, including identities. The Frei Caneca Street, officially located in the neighborhood of Consolação, surrounding the center of the city of São Paulo and close to Paulista Avenue, is the focus of this work, which brings up where she might be and what it can be. At least since 2003 it has been known and recognized as a "gay street" of São Paulo, after a conflict between a gay couple and the administration of Frei Caneca Mall, opened in 2001. In 2008 the project to becoming as a legal “gay street” as it brought to light a number of actors whose legitimacy discourses seek permission of who could talk about and the street. And are there gays in the street? But are there so much? What could it mean to be gay at Frei Caneca St.? This tesis is the result of research that sought to understand what various actors present on the street mean by "gay street" by this presence and understand how the street itself. Where it is, what it approaching and moving away. Street Declined For Male: Sexualities, Real Estate Market And Masculinities In Downtown Sao Paulo (brazil)

This article addresses theoretically empiric data about the production of centers and peripheries in downtown Sao Paulo, taking as vectors gender and sexuality-based assumptions of differences. Such thematic and epistemological approach comes from produced data which discusses the existence of a "gay street" in Sao Paulo: the Frei Caneca Street. Contrastingly, Repubica region appears as carrier of a type of homosexuality less legitimate and interesting masculine-feminized homosexuality. This article is based in two Sao Paulo city districts, located in the central region of Sao Paulo, Republica and Consolacao. Such districts congregate most options for night leisure, shopping and meeting among homosexual behaving people. A considerable amount of streets and sets of streets on this region are generically called "gay", although presence of identity-defined audiences is complex and variable. Their identities vary among lesbians, bisexuals, transvestites, transsexuals and queer people, and those who don't have a well-marked identification.611312

Sexualidade que produz cidade. Este artigo parte de um ponto na cidade de São Paulo para pensar a própria produção da cidade a partir de definições sócio-sexuais. Localizado na esquina das ruas Frei Caneca e Peixoto Gomide, o Bar d’A Lôca surge como aglutinador de identidades sexuais, resumidas no termo gay, assim como ponto epicentral de onde se fala do que é o Centro da cidade. Mais do que outro dos vários espaços da sociabilidade paulistana dita gay, o bar é definidor; assim como a esquina e a rua, em relação a outras, mapeia São Paulo e altera sua geografia.Sexuality producing city. This paper starts from a point in the city of São Paulo to think the very production of the city from socio-sexual settings. Located on the corner of Frei Caneca St. and Peixoto Gomide St., the Bar d’A Lôca emerges as unifying sexual identities, summarized in the term gay, as well as epicentral point of speaking of what the city center. More than any other of the various spaces of sociability gay, the bar is defining, as well as the street corner and the street, in relation to others, São Paulo maps and alters its geography.

O objetivo deste relatório é apresentar os resultados do projeto “Violência de Estado no Brasil: um estudo dos Crimes de Maio de 2006 na perspectiva da antropologia forense e da justiça de transição”. A pesquisa analisou sessenta casos de pessoas assassinadas na região da Baixada Santista entre os dias 12 e 20 de maio de 2006, a fim de entender a dinâmica da violência, o perfil das vítimas e analisar indícios de execução sumária. Dessa forma, esperamos que os resultados possam contribuir com o esclarecimento dos crimes e com a demanda de justiça dos familiares das vítimas, e também colaborar com o debate sobre a violência de Estado no Brasil e com a construção de uma democracia real no país, conforme estabelecido pelos pilares da justiça de transição

This article discusses some manners to construct the meanings of the past into Museu do Ceará's exhibitions between 1932 and 1997. Based on issues of Social History of Memory, the meanings of dust and silence are highlighted in a way that the past is configured in the space of the exhibitions. The artifacts are treated taking into account underlying values and expectations that guide, in certain circumstances, connections and separations between past and present
