Algebraic calculations for spectrum of superintegrable system from exceptional orthogonal polynomials

We introduce an extended Kepler-Coulomb quantum model in spherical coordinates. The Schr\"{o}dinger equation of this Hamiltonian is solved in these coordinates and it is shown that the wave functions of the system can be expressed in terms of Laguerre, Legendre and exceptional Jacobi polynomials (of hypergeometric type). We construct ladder and shift operators based on the corresponding wave functions and obtain their recurrence formulas. These recurrence relations are used to construct higher-order, algebraically independent integrals of motion to prove superintegrability of the Hamiltonian. The integrals form a higher rank polynomial algebra. By constructing the structure functions of the associated deformed oscillator algebras we derive the degeneracy of energy spectrum of the superintegrable system.Comment: 20 page

Sexual Side Effects of Psychiatric Medications in Women: A Clinical Review

Sexual side effects of psychiatric medications have been estimated to occur in 60% of male clients (1) and 30% of female clients (2). Despite a body of literature relating individual medications to specific sexual side effects, few studies have satisfactorily addressed the psychotropic-induced sexual dysfunctions in women. The spectrum of known sexual sided effects resulting from psychopharmacologic interventionswill be reviewed. Guidelines for appropriately addressing the possibility of sexual side effects within a therapeutic relationship for maximizing reporting of sexual side effects, and for possible treatment approaches to sexual side effects will be described

Physician Gender Impact on Obesity Care in the Academic Ambulatory Setting

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess a nationally representative sample of academic family physicians to determine whether personal physician characteristics are associated with attitudes towards and care of overweight and/or obese patients. METHODS: Questions pertaining to physician’s interactions with overweight and obese patients was administered as the 2012 Council of Academic Family Medicine Educational Research Alliance (CERA) survey to academic family physicians. We analyzed self-reported demographic responses physicians gave with the main outcome the association between self-reported likelihood of engaging in weight loss discussions with overweight or obese patients and physicians’ personal characteristics (gender and physician BMI). RESULTS: 36% of the 1099 physicians surveyed were overweight and 14% were obese (Table 1). We found no differences in the self-reported likelihood of discussing weight loss strategies with either their overweight patients or obese patients by physician BMI category. 77% female vs. 64% male physicians reported being very/extremely likely to discuss weight loss with their obese patients at their most recent visit (p=0.002). Female physicians reported discussing weight loss strategies often or at every visit more than males (females 79%, males 69%; p=0.02). Finally, female physicians self-reported more minutes spent counseling overweight and obese patients (p = 0.0001) (Table 3). CONCLUSION: Female family medicine physicians are more likely than male counterparts to discuss weight loss strategies with obese patients and they report spending more time discussing weight loss strategies with their patients. However, self-reported physician BMI was not associated with these behaviors

Verification of PCP-Related Computational Reductions in Coq

We formally verify several computational reductions concerning the Post correspondence problem (PCP) using the proof assistant Coq. Our verifications include a reduction of a string rewriting problem generalising the halting problem for Turing machines to PCP, and reductions of PCP to the intersection problem and the palindrome problem for context-free grammars. Interestingly, rigorous correctness proofs for some of the reductions are missing in the literature

Dichotomic Functions and Bell's Theorems

It is shown that correlations of dichotomic functions can not conform to results from Quantum Mechanics. Also, it is seen that the assumptions attendant to optical tests of Bell's Inequalities actually are consistent with classical physics so that in conclusion, Bell's Theorems do not preclude hidden variable interpretations of Quantum Mechanics

Are Individuals Fickle-Minded?

Game theory has been used to model large-scale social events — such as constitutional law, democratic stability, standard setting, gender roles, social movements, communication, markets, the selection of officials by means of elections, coalition formation, resource allocation, distribution of goods, and war — as the aggregate result of individual choices in interdependent decision-making. Game theory in this way assumes methodological individualism. The widespread observation that game theory predictions do not in general match observation has led to many attempts to repair game theory by creating behavioral game theory, which adds corrective terms to the game theoretic predictions in the hope of making predictions that better match observations. But for game theory to be useful in making predictions, we must be able to generalize from an individual’s behavior in one situation to that individual’s behavior in very closely similar situations. In other words, behavioral game theory needs individuals to be reasonably consistent in action if the theory is to have predictive power. We argue on the basis of experimental evidence that the assumption of such consistency is unwarranted. More realistic models of individual agents must be developed that acknowledge the variance in behavior for a given individual

Diminished temperature and vegetation seasonality over northern high latitudes

Global temperature is increasing, especially over northern lands (>50° N), owing to positive feedbacks1. As this increase is most pronounced in winter, temperature seasonality (ST)—conventionally defined as the difference between summer and winter temperatures—is diminishing over time2, a phenomenon that is analogous to its equatorward decline at an annual scale. The initiation, termination and performance of vegetation photosynthetic activity are tied to threshold temperatures3. Trends in the timing of these thresholds and cumulative temperatures above them may alter vegetation productivity, or modify vegetation seasonality (SV), over time. The relationship between ST and SV is critically examined here with newly improved ground and satellite data sets. The observed diminishment of ST and SV is equivalent to 4° and 7° (5° and 6°) latitudinal shift equatorward during the past 30 years in the Arctic (boreal) region. Analysis of simulations from 17 state-of-the-art climate models4 indicates an additional STdiminishment equivalent to a 20° equatorward shift could occur this century. How SV will change in response to such large projected ST declines and the impact this will have on ecosystem services5 are not well understood. 2 Board Ethics and Auditor Choice – International Evidence ABSTRACT This study examines whether firms‟ auditor choice relates reflects the strength of board ethics. Using a large sample of firms 132,853 firm year observations from forty-six countries around the globe. and controlling for a number of firm- and country-level factors, we find that firms in countries where “high board ethical values” prevail are more likely to hire a Big 4 auditor. We also find that the relation between board ethical values and auditor choice is mitigated by the firm‟s board size. These results establish an indirect link between board ethics and financial reporting quality through the firm‟s choice of auditor

Double differentiation in a cross-national comparison of populist political movements and online media uses in the United States and the Netherlands

In a context of highly visible and politically influential populist movements, this study considers the online self-representation of the Tea Party Patriots (TPP) in the United States and the Party for Freedom (PVV) in the Netherlands. A multi-methodological approach was adopted to compare the discursive manifestation of key populism concepts: leadership characteristics, adversary definition and mobilizing information. Analyses reconstruct and account for similarities and differences in discursive framing strategies of 'double differentiation' through which both movements attempt inclusion in and exclusion from the political establishment, and, in doing so, mobilize communities of support. Altogether, this study advances the understanding of what constitutes 'unmediated' content that is presented through user-generated media production, and how self-determined media spaces have facilitated shifts in populist media legitimation and political representation in two politically unique countries
