Unicity of types for supercuspidal representations of p-adic SL2
We consider the question of unicity of types on maximal compact subgroups for supercuspidal representations of SL2 over a nonarchimedean local field of odd residual characteristic. We introduce the notion of an archetype as the SL2-conjugacy class of a typical representation of a maximal compact subgroup, and go on to show that any archetype in SL2 is restricted from one in GL2. From this it follows that any archetype must be induced from a Bushnell-Kutzko type. Given a supercuspidal representation π of SL2(F), we give an additional explicit description of the number of archetypes admitted by π in terms of its ramification. We also describe a relationship between archetypes for GL2 and SL2 in terms of L-packets, and deduce an inertial Langlands correspondence for SL2
"Go West, Young Man, Go West!"?
Will economic integration lead to skilled citizens being drawn to the larger, richer economic partner? In 1983, Australia and New Zealand signed the Closer Economic Relations Agreement to ensure free trade in goods and services. Was this a modern equivalent of Horace Greeley's famous advice "Go West, young man, go West"? The evidence presented in this paper suggests that Greeley was right; many have indeed gone westward. However, a common labour market has not led to a brain drain. Paradoxically, the effect has been to increase the numbers of lower-skilled migrants from New Zealand and those with higher skills who are older or are not within the approved occupational groupings. The Trans-Tasman picture is further complicated by migration to New Zealand from third countries sufficient to offset the outflow of New Zealand citizens. Measurement of the steady surface pressure distribution on a single rotation large scale advanced prop-fan blade at Mach numbers from 0.03 to 0.78
The aerodynamic pressure distribution was determined on a rotating Prop-Fan blade at the S1-MA wind tunnel facility operated by the Office National D'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiale (ONERA) in Modane, France. The pressure distributions were measured at thirteen radial stations on a single rotation Large Scale Advanced Prop-Fan (LAP/SR7) blade, for a sequence of operating conditions including inflow Mach numbers ranging from 0.03 to 0.78. Pressure distributions for more than one power coefficient and/or advanced ratio setting were measured for most of the inflow Mach numbers investigated. Due to facility power limitations the Prop-Fan test installation was a two bladed version of the eight design configuration. The power coefficient range investigated was therefore selected to cover typical power loading per blade conditions which occur within the Prop-Fan operating envelope. The experimental results provide an extensive source of information on the aerodynamic behavior of the swept Prop-Fan blade, including details which were elusive to current computational models and do not appear in the two-dimensional airfoil data
ESTIMATION OF EXPORT DEMAND FUNCTIONS FOR U.S. WHEAT
Export demand functions for U.S. wheat were estimated for five world regions. Estimates of the effects of income, price, and nonprice variables on U.S. wheat exports were obtained using various econometric procedures. The major finding of the paper indicates that exchange rate changes have had a substantial impact on U.S. wheat exports. The repulsive and feeding-deterrent effects of electropositive metals on juvenile sandbar sharks (Carcharhinus plumbeus)
Reducing shark bycatch and depredation (i.e., damage caused
by sharks to gear, bait, and desired fish species) in pelagic longline fisheries targeting tunas and swordfish is
a priority. Electropositive metals (i.e., a mixture of the lanthanide elements lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, and
praseodymium) have been shown to deter spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias, primarily a coastal species) from
attacking bait, presumably because of interactions with the electroreceptive system of this shark. We undertook to
determine the possible effectiveness of electropositive metals for reducing the interactions of pelagic sharks with
longline gear, using sandbar sharks (Carcharhinus plumbeus, family Carcharhinidae) as a model species. The presence of electropositive metal deterred feeding in groups of juvenile
sandbar sharks and altered the swimming patterns of individuals in the absence of food motivation (these individuals generally avoided approaching electropositive metal closer than ~100 cm). The former effect was relatively
short-lived however; primarily (we assume) because competition with other individuals increased feeding
motivation. In field trials with bottom longline gear, electropositive metal placed within ~10 cm of the hooks
reduced the catch of sandbar sharks by approximately two thirds, compared to the catch on hooks in the proximity of plastic pieces of similar dimensions. Electropositive metals
therefore appear to have the potential to reduce shark interactions in pelagic longline fisheries, although
the optimal mass, shape, composition, and distance to baited hooks remain to be determined

Greenland Shark (<i>Somniosus microcephalus</i>) Stomach Contents and Stable Isotope Values Reveal an Ontogenetic Dietary Shift
Current knowledge on the feeding ecology of the Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus), a potential top predator in arctic marine ecosystems, is based on small sample sizes as well as narrow size ranges of sharks. Therefore, potential size-related feeding patterns remain poorly documented. Using stomach content data (N = 88) and stable isotope values of white muscle tissue (N = 40), this study evaluates the diet of sharks ranging in size from 81 to 474 cm (total length). The importance of prey categories (“Fish,” “Mammal,” “Squid,” “Crustacean,” and “Other”) was evaluated based on the reconstructed prey biomass of the stomach contents. Stable isotope values of δ13C and δ15N ranged between -14.4 to -19.9‰ and 11.8 to 17.2‰, respectively. The importance of each prey category was estimated by the Index of Relative Importance (IRI). Our findings suggest that the smallest Greenland sharks (200 cm) mainly feed on higher trophic level prey such as seals, epibenthic and benthic fishes including gadoids (Gadidae), skates (Rajidae), righteye flounders (Pleuronectidae), lumpfish (Cyclopteridae), wolffish (Anarhichadidae), and redfish (Sebastidae). Redfish were, however, only found to be important in the largest sharks sampled (>400 cm). In addition to demonstrating ontogenetic shifts in their feeding preferences, this study supports that Greenland sharks are capable of active predation on fast swimming seals and large fishes
