    Digital social media: An interactive technology incorporated as a competitive advantage for business

    In a more transparent and dynamic world, in which consumers trust other consumers more for advice and recommendations on products and services, the continuity of organizations appears to be associated with socialization, the sharing of interests and the interaction with the audience. This is associated with the incorporation of digital technologies to business, specifically the use of social media. Consequently, it is timely and interesting to explore the phenomenon of virtual socialization, although it is a littlestudied field and what is needed is an innovative and theoretical approach based upon theories of marketing and communication. Expertise in these areas is present in all organizations and their performance is important for appropriate development of them. This work is a qualitative analysis about the behavior, reactions and attitudes of individuals to organizations, in order to understand the social factors that contribute to sustainable competitive advantages of organizations which can support strategic and future actions. We conclude that relevant factors associated with the tacit knowledge of the organization, specifically to learning and social interaction of the organization and their knowledge of virtual communities. The higher the coexistence of factors, the more difficult is the replication and greater will be the hypothesis of sustainable competitive advantage

    Double stimulation for collaborative transformation of agricultural systems : The role of models for building agency

    This article describes an investigation into how to build agency among growers so they take the lead in transforming their own activity of managing whiteflies. The study shows how the principle of Transformative Agency by Double Stimulation (TADS) was applied in a formative intervention based on the Change Laboratory method for developing pest management among greenhouse vegetable producers in Finnish Ostrobothnia. The data comprise audio recorded sessions, documentary data and observations produced and collected during the intervention. The results show how the collective construction of a continuous series of models during the intervention played an important role in learning, prompting TADS among the participants and working as a communication tool for the practitioners' different conceptualizations of the problem and possible solutions. The models allowed materializing and expanding the way the participants understood the temporal, functional and spatial aspects of the problem. In the study, TADS took place through conflict of stimuli and motives, first stimulus, auxiliary breaking-away second stimulus, and actions that were initiated to improve the management of the problem at hand. In conclusion, the principle of double stimulation was useful to produce transformative agency, helping transform the activity of pest management among the horticultural producers.Peer reviewe

    Experiências prévias na (re)configuração da identidade profissional: um estudo como estudantes estagiários de educação física

    Focusing on the last stage of initial teacher training the practicum (i.e. teaching in an assigned subject or classroom under supervision of an experienced teacher), the present study aims to analyze the influence of prior experiences of practicum in preservice Physical Education teachers to the reconstruction of their professional identity. Through a qualitative approach - using a guiding script to conduct a focus group sesión -, reports, impressions and experiences related to the period prior to the practicum of 11 preservice teachers from the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto, academic year 2010/2011 were collected. The discussion conducted during the group sessions was recorded and the whole transcription was submitted to content and thematic analysis, using Nvivo9. The results suggest that: i) self-determination is fundamental to choose the profession; ii) the experiences gained while students/athletes influenced their work as teachers; iii) the physical education teacher is perceived as an example to follow and who has a closer relationship with students; iv) the ideal teacher is responsible, provides a good atmosphere in the classroom and leads the student to achieve success.El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar la influencia de experiencias anteriores al Prácticum en la construcción de la identidad profesional en estudiantes de prácticas de Educación Física. A través de un enfoque cualitativo, utilizando un guion para llevar a cabo una sesión de grupo, fueron recogidos relatos, impresiones y experiencias de 11 estudiantes de la Facultad de Deporte de la Universidad de Oporto, durante el curso de 2010/2011 en el periodo previo al Prácticum. El grupo de discusión fue grabado y transcrito para, después, ser sometido a un análisis temático y de contenido, con la ayuda del programa Nvivo9. Los datos obtenidos dejaron en claro que: i) la autodeterminación es fundamental en la elección de la profesión, ii) las experiencias vividas como estudiantes/atletas influenciaron su trabajo como maestros, iii) el profesor de educación física es percibido como un ejemplo a seguir y que tiene una relación más estrecha con los estudiantes, iv) el profesor ideal es responsable, crea un buen ambiente de clase y lleva al estudiante a alcanzar el éxito.Centrando-se na última etapa da formação inicial de professores, o estágio profissional, o presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a influência das experiências prévias ao estágio profissional em estudantes estagiários de Educação Física na construção da sua identidade profissional. Por meio da abordagem qualitativa, utilizando um guião orientador para a condução de uma sessão em grupo focus, foram recolhidos relatos, impressões e vivências, relativos ao período que antecede o estágio profissional, de 11 estagiários da Faculdade de Desporto da Universidade do Porto, do ano letivo 2010/2011. A discussão desenvolvida em grupo foi gravada e o discurso, após transcrição, foi submetido a uma análise temática e de conteúdo, com o auxílio do programa Nvivo9.Os dados obtidos colocaram em evidência que: i) a autodeterminação é fundamental na escolha da profissão; ii) as experiências vivenciadas enquanto alunos/atletas influenciaram a sua atuação enquanto professores; iii) o professor de Educação Física é percecionado como um exemplo a seguir e que tem uma maior proximidade com os alunos; iv) o professor ideal é responsável, cria um bom clima de aula e leva o aluno a alcançar o sucesso

The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence of malocclusion in a pediatric population. Eighty-two children (3–12 years old), of both genders, who belong to a Social Solidarity Institution for Children in Pico Island were clinically examined. Half were female and half were male, in which most were 7 years old (20.7%) with mixed dentition (58.5%). The highest prevalence was in canine class I and vertical molar.     La epigrafía medieval en España: un estado de la cuestión

    This review paper presents an overview of the studies in Medieval Epigraphy that have been carried out in Spain. After the presentation of its precedents, it focuses on the period when this discipline was developed, referring to the beginning of the Corpus Inscriptionum Hispaniae Mediaevalium (CIHM) and the publication of epigraphic texts. Then, the method used to study them will be discussed, and the principal lines of research that have been followed since then are analysed. The paper ends with a brief reflection on the different future perspectives.Este artículo muestra un estado de la cuestión de los estudios de epigrafía medieval que se han llevado a cabo en España. Tras una exposición de sus antecedentes, se adentra en el período de desarrollo de esta disciplina, aludiendo al inicio del Corpus Inscriptionum Hispaniae Mediaevalium (CIHM) y a la edición de los textos epigráficos. A continuación se recoge el método seguido para su estudio y se analizan las principales líneas de investigación que se han mantenido desde entonces hasta la actualidad. El trabajo termina con una breve reflexión sobre las diferentes perspectivas de futuro

    The aim of this article is to analyse the transition from Visigothic script to Caroline minuscule through inscriptions. Taking the need to compare the processes of graphic change with the “unknown” epigraphic sources as our starting point, in the first place, the historical and cultural environment that favoured the implementation of the new writing system will be introduced. Next, we will examine the uppercase alphabet of the codices as an element of comparison with the inscriptions and, subsequently, the epigraphic production will be presented, focusing on the territories that were part of the medieval kingdoms of Castile and Navarre, in particular those that now correspond to the Autonomous Community of La Rioja.El propósito de este artículo es analizar la transición de la escritura visigótica a la carolina a través de las inscripciones. Partiendo de la necesidad de cotejar los procesos de cambio escriturario con las “desconocidas” fuentes epigráficas haremos, en primer lugar, una introducción del ambiente histórico y cultural que favoreció la implantación de la nueva escritura. Después, examinaremos el alfabeto mayúsculo de los códices como elemento de comparación con las inscripciones y, acto seguido, presentaremos la producción epigráfica, centrándonos en los territorios que formaron parte de los reinos de Castilla y Navarra, en concreto los que corresponden a la actual Comunidad Autónoma de La Rioja
