Observation of environment-induced double sudden transitions in geometric quantum correlations
Correlations in quantum systems exhibit a rich phenomenology under the effect
of various sources of noise. We investigate theoretically and experimentally
the dynamics of quantum correlations and their classical counterparts in two
nuclear magnetic resonance setups, as measured by geometric quantifiers based
on trace-norm. We consider two-qubit systems prepared in Bell diagonal states,
and perform the experiments in decohering environments resulting from Bell
diagonal-preserving Markovian local noise. We then report the first observation
of environment-induced double sudden transitions in the geometric quantum
correlations, a genuinely nonclassical effect not observable in classical
correlations. The evolution of classical correlations in our physical
implementation reveals in turn the finite-time relaxation to a pointer basis
under nondissipative decoherence, which we characterize geometrically in full
analogy with predictions based on entropic measures.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. v2: Minor corrections. Published versio

Suppression of the hemolytic effect of mesoporous silica nanoparticles after protein corona interaction: independence of the surface microchemical environment
Mesoporous silica nanoparticles are known to induce the hemolysis of human red blood cells (RBCs) when citotoxicity assays are performed in a phosphate buffer solution (PBS). However, in a more realistic approach, the presence of blood plasma biomolecules must be considered in any nanotoxicological evaluation of porous SiO2 nanoparticles when biomedical applications through intravenous administration are aimed. In this context, it is demonstrated in this work that porous silica nanoparticles do not induce any cytotoxic effect on RBCs when hemolysis assay is done in the presence of blood plasma, regardless the surface charge (positive or negative) of the nanoparticle. The absence of hemolysis is mainly associated with the adsorption of plasma proteins on the nanoparticle surface, which leads to the formation of a stable protein coating (called protein corona or PC) that shields the original microchemical environment of bare nanoparticles.
In Vitro Wound Healing Improvement By Low-level Laser Therapy Application In Cultured Gingival Fibroblasts.
The aim of this study was to determine adequate energy doses using specific parameters of LLLT to produce biostimulatory effects on human gingival fibroblast culture. Cells (3 × 10(4) cells/cm(2)) were seeded on 24-well acrylic plates using plain DMEM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum. After 48-hour incubation with 5% CO(2) at 37°C, cells were irradiated with a InGaAsP diode laser prototype (LASERTable; 780 ± 3 nm; 40 mW) with energy doses of 0.5, 1.5, 3, 5, and 7 J/cm(2). Cells were irradiated every 24 h totalizing 3 applications. Twenty-four hours after the last irradiation, cell metabolism was evaluated by the MTT assay and the two most effective doses (0.5 and 3 J/cm(2)) were selected to evaluate the cell number (trypan blue assay) and the cell migration capacity (wound healing assay; transwell migration assay). Data were analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney nonparametric tests with statistical significance of 5%. Irradiation of the fibroblasts with 0.5 and 3 J/cm(2) resulted in significant increase in cell metabolism compared with the nonrradiated group (P < 0.05). Both energy doses promoted significant increase in the cell number as well as in cell migration (P < 0.05). These results demonstrate that, under the tested conditions, LLLT promoted biostimulation of fibroblasts in vitro.201271945
New segregates from the Neotropical genus Stryphnodendron (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae, mimosoid clade)
Non-monophyly is a prominent issue in mimosoid legumes, even in some of the less speciose genera such as the neotropical genus Stryphnodendron. This genus includes 35 species occurring from Nicaragua to Southern Brazil mostly in humid forests and savannas. Previous taxonomic studies of Stryphnodendron have highlighted morphologically distinct groups within the genus, recognized by differences on leaves (number of pinnae and size of leaflets), inflorescences (a simple or compound thyrse), and fruit types (legume, nucoid legume or follicle). Recent phylogenetic analyses have confirmed the non-monophyly of Stryphnodendron, supporting the recognition of three independent and morphologically well-delimited genera. Here we re-circumscribe Stryphnodendron and propose the two new genera Gwilymia and Naiadendron. In addition, we also provide an updated taxonomic account of the closely related genus Microlobius, including the proposal of a lectotype for the single species in the genus
Au+Au central collisions at 150, 250 and 400 AMeV energies in QMD with relativistic forces
An extensive comparison of the recent experimental data published by the FOPI
collaboration at GSI with the results of a relativistically covariant
formulation of a QMD code is presented. For most of the quantities we find
agreement with the experimental results showing that the derived force has a
reasonable momentum dependence.Comment: 33 pages with 18 EPSF figures included. Final version to appear in
