    Deans of Students’ Responsibilities in Campus Crisis Management

    The purpose of this descriptive quantitative study was to discover the responsibilities of the dean of students in managing campus crisis. The literature clearly identifies the dean of students as a member of the crisis management team (Benjamin, 2014; Zdziarski, 2001, 2006, 2016). However, a gap in the literature exists concerning the specific responsibilities of the dean of students in responding to campus crisis. The five phases of crisis management as defined by PPD-8 are Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery (US Department of Homeland Security, 2011). In signing PPD-8, President Obama mandated all state and federal organizations develop comprehensive crisis management plans to address each phase of crisis management. Zdziarski (2016) suggested several responsibilities that should be addressed in each phase of campus crisis management. The survey used in this study addressed these responsibilities. The findings showed that deans of students in the state of Georgia have some responsibility in each phase of crisis management, however, deans reported having more responsibility in the Prevention and Recovery phases than any other phases. Further, the results of this research show the responsibilities of the deans of students in the state of Georgia are minimally affected by degree program, FTE, and student housing status. However, institution type showed some impact on the responsibilities of the deans of students in the Protection and Mitigation phases of crisis management

    Automorphic properties of low energy string amplitudes in various dimensions

    This paper explores the moduli-dependent coefficients of higher derivative interactions that appear in the low-energy expansion of the four-graviton amplitude of maximally supersymmetric string theory compactified on a d-torus. These automorphic functions are determined for terms up to order D^6R^4 and various values of d by imposing a variety of consistency conditions. They satisfy Laplace eigenvalue equations with or without source terms, whose solutions are given in terms of Eisenstein series, or more general automorphic functions, for certain parabolic subgroups of the relevant U-duality groups. The ultraviolet divergences of the corresponding supergravity field theory limits are encoded in various logarithms, although the string theory expressions are finite. This analysis includes intriguing representations of SL(d) and SO(d,d) Eisenstein series in terms of toroidally compactified one and two-loop string and supergravity amplitudes.Comment: 80 pages. 1 figure. v2:Typos corrected, footnotes amended and small clarifications. v3: minor corrections.     HIV in the Heartland: Experiences of Living with HIV in Urban and Rural Areas of the Midwest

    Scholarly research on HIV/AIDS and stigma has largely demonstrated a different experience for people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) who inhabit urban and rural areas. Largely missing from this scholarship are experiences in low prevalence areas. Low prevalence areas typically have fewer resources, social networks, and HIV infection and prevalence is less common. In this paper, we examine the challenges PLWHAs in rural and urban areas of the Midwest face and how these individuals manage, respond, and combat HIV/AIDS related stigmas in their communities. This paper utilizes interview data to understand the lived experiences of 18 persons living with HIV and AIDS. This paper reveals that respondents in rural areas are likely to be geographically dispersed, struggle with accessing healthcare services, believe their communities are less tolerant, and are less likely to disclose their positive status or seek out social support. Respondents who lived in urban areas were more likely to disclose their positive status, have access to AIDS service organizations and social support, and to participate in advocacy in the “HIV Community.” Our study demonstrates how social and community context are agentic players in shaping life chances, decisions, and behavior of the PLWHAs we interviewed

    International audiencePotentialities are investigated for using acousto-optic cells based on a TeO2 crystal to stabilize a microwave signal generated by an optoelectronic oscillator. Bulk acoustic waves at two radio frequencies (RF) near 60 MHz are launched in the two identical cells providing a required locking on of a microwave signal. Differences between RF signals are up to 400 kHz to follow quality factor of the optic resonator typically in the range of 5×108. Critical alignment of the two cells is performed thanks to an extraordinary polarized laser beam launched at a very low Bragg angle of light incidence. Moreover, the system is operating for any resonator to be inserted into the optoelectronic oscillator with a Q factor in the range of 2×107−1011

    Досліджено ігрову задачу зближення для нестаціонарних динамічних процесів, що функціонують в умовах невизначеності та протидії. При цьому термінальна множина представляє собою циліндричне багатозначне відображення. На основі методу розв’язуючих функцій отримано достатні умови завершення гри в класі квазі- та стробоскопічних стратегій для різних схем методу. Проведено порівняння гарантованих часів. Результати ілюструються на моделі з інтегральним блоком керування та ігрових задачах з простим рухом.The game problem of pursuit is studied for dynamic processes evolving under uncertainty and counteraction. The terminal set is supposed to be a cylindrical set-valued mapping. The method of resolving functions is used to derive the sufficient conditions for the game termination in the class of quasi- and stroboscopic strategies for various schemes of the method. The guaranteed times are compared. The results are illustrated using the model with integral control unit and game problems with simple motion
