Democratização da universidade pública e estudantes de primeira geração na UNESPAR

O artigo apresenta pesquisa que traçou o perfil de estudantes dos cursos de graduação da Universidade Estadual do Paraná – UNESPAR/Campus de Campo Mourão no período de 2015 a 2018. Foram aplicados questionários a alunos ingressantes e desenvolvidos grupos focais com duas turmas do curso de Pedagogia do campus. O objetivo foi conhecer o estudante que ingressa na instituição e compreender suas dificuldades. Basicamente, verificamos que 75% dos estudantes do campus são alunos de primeira geração – os primeiros de suas famílias a ingressarem no ensino superior –, apresentam lacunas na aprendizagem e dificuldades diversas. Concluímos destacando a importância de conhecer os novos grupos sociais que ingressam no ensino superior brasileiro para consolidar políticas de acesso e permanência à universidade pública brasileira

Working for Veggies: A Workshare Program at the Grand Valley State University Sustainable Agriculture Project

Grand Valley State University’s Sustainable Agriculture Project – often abbreviated to the SAP – grows a wide variety of produce while teaching students about environmental and social issues surrounding food. However, the GVSU student body is generally unaware of the SAP’s purpose or existence. In addition, the food being grown at the SAP does not always end up in the hands of students, while at the same time many students have difficulties affording healthy foods. We sought to find a solution to all of these problems. Through multiple brainstorming processes and consultations with various stakeholders, we were able to create the structure for a workshare program, which would allow students to work at the SAP in exchange for food each week. We finalized an official workshare application and multiple advertising materials. While we are faced with some limitations for this work, such as the implementation of the workshare program being dependent on the SAP team, our hope and mission is that our material is strong and thorough so that this workshare may create a positive change for years to come. Future work to be considered includes posting the advertising materials and adapting the program as it continues to grow

pulsed electric field assisted juice extraction of frozen thawed blueberries

Pulsed electric field is an efficient method for cell membrane permeabilization of food tissues with most research being done on fresh plant cells. Freeze/thawing is also known to be capable of cell membrane permeabilization. In this work, frozen/thawed European blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) fruits were treated with pulsed electric field in order to further enhance the cell membrane permeabilization and, hence, the quality of blueberry juice during the subsequent pressing process. Blueberries tissues were exposed to 20 μs monopolar square wave pulses of different electric field strength (E = 1–3–5 kV cm-1) and total specific energy input (WT = 1–5–10 kJ kg -1), with their permeabilization being characterized by electrical impedance measurements and cell disintegration index (Zp). The juice, obtained after pressing (1.32 bar), was characterized for total polyphenols, anthocyanins content and antioxidant activity. The cell disintegration index (Zp) significantly (p < 0.05) increased from 0.2 up to 0.6 with increasing pulsed electric field treatment intensity (E and WT). As a results, in comparison with control, pulsed electric field treatment induced a slightly higher release of polyphenols (up to +8.0%) and anthocyanins (up to +8.3%), thus improving the antioxidant activity of the juice (up to +16.7%). In conclusion, frozen/thawed blueberries could be pulsed electric field treated in order to further increase juice quality

Este trabalho visa despertar um momento de reflexão. O desenvolvimento de um olhar mais administrativo, da amplitude do mercado de trabalho. Mostrar, como um guia, um caminho, uma diretriz, para que os estudantes percebam a importância de conhecer não só os aspectos técnicos de uma agência de publicidade, mas sim a administração da área de comunicação. As empresas públicas ou privadas buscam pessoas que tenham aptidões diversas, evidenciando a importância do empreendedorismo nos dias de hoje, pois não é somente o perfil de quem pretende abrir o seu próprio negócio, mas sim, característica fundamental para um profissional que deseja ter sucesso, que tem interesse, curiosidade, independência, decisão, entre outras tantas posturas que o estudante e o futuro profissional devem ter, para entrar no mercado de trabalho, que está cada vez mais competitivo. Definições dos conceitos de empreendedorismo, negociação, publicidade e propaganda, a realidade do mercado publicitário, um roteiro de quais os passos que se deve dar para abrir uma agência de publicidade, assim como uma empresa de outro ramo. Como é administrar, estruturar, definir departamentos, funções de cada profissional, remuneração da agência. Ou seja, esclarecer as particularidades da área de comunicação, seus conceitos, suas práticas, seus investimentos, enfim, seu dia-a-dia

Global patterns of tree density are contingent upon local determinants in the world’s natural forests

Here, we evaluated whether mean tree size in the world’s natural forests alters the effect of global productivity on tree density. In doing so, we gathered a vast set of forest inventories including >3000 sampling plots from 23 well-conserved areas worldwide to encompass (as much as possible) the main forest biomes on Earth. We evidence that latitudinal productivity patterns of tree density become evident as large trees become dominant. Global estimates of tree abundance should, therefore, consider dependencies of latitudinal sources of variability on local biotic influences to avoid underestimating the number of trees on Earth and to properly evaluate the functional and social consequence

Confinamento lateral de portadores e fótons e o comportamento espectral de laser de três terminais

Orientador: Newton Cesario FrateschiDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Fisica Gleb WataghinResumo: A disponibilidade de estruturas de semicondutor com poços quânticos aumentou o interesse em desenvolver sistemas ópticos para computação e interconexão óptica utilizando o laser de semicondutor como componente básico em circuitos optoeletrônicos integrados. Portanto, existe um grande empenho em pesquisar novos materiais e estruturas, assim como novas técnicas de fabricação para dispositivos integrados ao laser que realizem esta interface óptica-eletrônica. Este trabalho apresenta, primeiramente, um estudo de alternativas de confinamento lateral óptico e elétrico em laser de semicondutor. Com esta finalidade, diversas técnicas de processamento foram avaliadas, como corrosão química úmida, oxidação térmica úmida, recrescimento e implantação iônica. Subseqüentemente, após a obtenção teórica das condições para a operação com um único modo lateral, lasers do tipo ridge foram fabricados e analisados, confirmando nossas previsões. Este tipo de estrutura foi utilizado para fabricar lasers de três terminais, que apresentam uma pequena região absorvedora controlada separadamente do guia de onda. Finalmente, um estudo sobre a influência desta região no comportamento espectral destes dispositivos foi então realizadoAbstract: The availability of semiconductor quantum-well structures increased the interest in the development of systems for optical computing and optical interconnection using semiconductor lasers as the basic component in optoelectronic integrated circuits. Therefore, there is a great interest in searching for novel materials and structures as well as fabrication techniques for semiconductor laser devices that can provide the opto-electronic interface. This thesis presents first a study on different optical and electrical lateral confinements in semiconductor lasers. Several processing techniques were investigated, such as wet chemical etching, wet thermal oxidation, regrowth and ion irradiation. Subsequently, after theoretically finding the conditions for single lateral mode operation in ridge lasers, these structures were fabricated and analyzed confirming our predictions. Three Terminal Lasers, which include a short absorbing section along the cavity, were fabricated using this technique. Education by projects at school : a study from theories of complexity, interdisciplinarity and transversality

Para a pesquisa, foi utilizado um projeto escolar desenvolvido pelo professor-pesquisador com uma turma de 4a série do Ensino Fundamental. Os dados coletados versavam sobre as atividades pedagógicas realizadas ao longo do projeto, disciplinas estudadas bem como as decisões de docente e discentes ao longo do trabalho. Os resultados da pesquisa demonstraram que a estratégia de projetos desenvolvida incorpora elementos relativos às teorias utilizadas e que a prática docente analisada pode contribuir para a implantação de ações pedagógicas que caminhem em direção das idéias de complexidade, transversalidade e interdisciplinaridadeAbstract: The present research work intended to study the contributions of education by projects in the pedagogical work, realizing the knowledge in a complex, interdisciplinar and transversal perspective.
