In addition, the submission of new methodologies that support studies within the above mentioned areas are also welcome. Our Publishing Process is based on the most relevant journals related to the topics covered by IJAMB, which periodicity at this first moment will be biennial. We are pleasure to invite colleagues according to the mentioned areas of interest to submit their articles for analysis in our editorial peer-reviewed system which will certainly allow an evaluation with ethics and criteria. It is known that there is a large number of "predatory" magazines that reduce quality in cientific publishing and some charge for their publications. This magazine will be the "online" and "open access" type, making the articles visible and available for download at any time in any part of the world. IJAMB is already in English language format, so that in a short time the magazine will be internationally recognized, allowing a new range of collaborators and referees, as well as new members to the editorial staff. Therefore, we are very hopefull that all members envolved and future ones will really strive to contribute to the evolution of this publication which quality and impact of the shared information will certainly increase.Welcome to the International Journal of Advances in Medical Biotechnology

    Get PDF
A plataforma utiliza modulação Min-Max Injection. This work describes the development of a multiphase inverter that can operate as a platform for driving and testing electrical machines with up to 15 phases, in addition to operating with a fundamental frequency of up to 1 kHz and a switching frequency of 100 kHz. Therefore, a multiphase voltage source inverter (VSI) topology using SiC MOSFETs and approved components for automotive applications was designed and constructed. The developed platform is composed of independent power modules and a control module with technology that uses only a single microcontroller capable of generating all signals with pulse width modulation (PWM). To validate the project, experimental tests were carried out with a YASA (Yokeless and Segmented Armature) machine that can operate with 3, 5 or 15 phases and also with multi-star connections, one with three independent systems of five phases and another with five independent three-phase systems. The platform uses Min-Max Injection modulation. Experimental results show that the inverter is capable of driving and testing multiphase motors with a wide variety of electrical connections using high fundamental and carrier frequencies. Therefore, the developed platform is an important tool that allows the testing of multiphase and multistar electrical machines operating under the most diverse configurations and operating conditions

    Get PDF
The higher proportion of obese women of childbearing age increases the risk of pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Lifestyle change is an essential factor for the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). It is important for these women to be aware of the consumption of high-risk foods and the importance of food for the risk of chronic diseases. There is scarce literature that characterizes food consumption in this high-risk population. The objective of this study was to compare high and low risk food consumption for chronic diseases during pregnancy and the postpartum period in women who had GDM. It was a cohort study. The population was composed by 799 women from Porto Alegre (RS), Pelotas (RS) and Fortaleza (CE), belonging to the study Lifestyle Intervention for Prevention of Diabetes After Pregnancy (LINDA-Brazil). Participants who had more than 18 years, without pre-pregnancy diabetes and gestational age ≥28 weeks were included in the study. Demographic, clinical and nutritional variables were collected on a food frequency questionnaire adapted from VIGITEL and SISVAN. We found a reduction in healthy food practices between pregnancy and the postpartum period. Consumption of raw salad 5 to 7x/week decreased by 27% (from 57.6% in pregnancy to 42.2% after calving), consumption of cooked vegetables and vegetables 5 to 7x / week decreased from 24% to 14,9%, consumption of fruit or fruit salad 5 to 7x / week from 69% to 39.8%, consumption of whole milk or yogurt 5 week week 7 from 38.9% to only 3.1% and the consumption of skimmed milk from 32.8% to 2.2%. We found more consumption of sodas after pregnancy. Age, schooling and income were considered to be the main determinants for the consumption of fruits and soft drinks during pregnancy and postpartum. Pregnant women with DMG showed worsening of postpartum food practices in relation to the period of gestation. It is possible that women interrupt nutritional care attention after birth, showing that it is necessary to follow these women after the baby is born

Hydrotalcites: A Highly Efficient Ecomaterial For Effluent Treatment Originated From Carbon Nanotubes Chemical Processing

    Get PDF
It has been reported that a mixture of carboxylated carbonaceous fragments (CCFs), so called oxidation debris, are generated during carbon nanotubes chemical processing using oxidant agents such as HNO3. The elimination of these fragments from carbon nanotubes surface has been point out to be a crucial step for an effective functionalization of the nanotubes as well as for improving the material. However, this process can introduce a potential environmental problem related water contamination because these CCFs can be viewed as a mixture of carbonaceous polyaromatic systems similar to humic substances and dissolved organic matter (DOM). The negative aspects of humic substances and DOM to water quality and wastewater treatment are well known. Since carbon nanotubes industry expands at high rates it is expected that effluent containing oxidation debris will increase since HNO3 chemical processing is the most applied method for purification and functionalization of carbon nanotubes. In this work, we have demonstrated that Hydrotalcites (HT) are highly efficient to remove oxidation debris from effluent solution originated from HNO3-treated multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The strategy presented here is a contribution towards green chemistry practices and life cycle studies in carbon nanotubes field.3041Albrecht, M.A., Evans, C.W., Raston, C.L., Green chemistry and the health implications of nanoparticles (2006) Green Chem., 8, pp. 417-432Datsyuk, V., Kalyva, M., Papagelis, K., Parthenios, J., Tasis, D., Siokou, A., Kallitsis, I., Galiotis, C., Chemical oxidation of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (2008) Carbon, 46, pp. 833-840Salzmann, C.G., Llewellyn, S.A., Tobias, G., Ward, M.A., Huh, Y., Green, M.L.H., The role of carboxylated carbonaceous fragments in the functionalization and spectroscopy of a single-walled carbon-nanotube material (2007) Advanced Materials, 19, pp. 883-887Fogden, S., Verdejo, R., Cottam, B., Shaffer, M., Purification of single walled carbon nanotubes: The problem with oxidation debris (2008) Chem. Low-level laser (light) therapy (LLLT) on muscle tissue: performance, fatigue and repair benefited by the power of light

    Get PDF
The use of low level laser (light) therapy (LLLT) has recently expanded to cover areas of medicine that were not previously thought of as the usual applications such as wound healing and inflammatory orthopedic conditions. One of these novel application areas is LLLT for muscle fatigue and muscle injury. Since it is becoming agreed that mitochondria are the principal photoacceptors present inside cells, and it is known that muscle cells are exceptionally rich in mitochondria, this suggests that LLLT should be highly beneficial in muscle injuries. The ability of LLLT to stimulate stem cells and progenitor cells means that muscle satellite cells may respond well to LLLT and help muscle repair. Furthermore the ability of LLLT to reduce inflammation and lessen oxidative stress is also beneficial in cases of muscle fatigue and injury. This review covers the literature relating to LLLT and muscles in both preclinical animal experiments and human clinical studies. Athletes, people with injured muscles, and patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy may all benefit

The aim of this work was to study the morphological characteristics of pig bristles reared in a free range system, based on the evaluation of the diameter and length of the bristles and correlated to meteorological variables. Between December 2017 and April 2018, the swine matrices from commercial lineage were splitted in four groups in accordance to the pigmentation of body surface and were analyzed in the gestation sector of the Unidade Demonstrativa de Sistema de Criação de Suínos ao Ar Livre (UDCAL) from Água Limpa Farm of the University of Brasília. In the sector, the sows were housed in 15 pickets of 1000 m² of area each, where the bristles were collected with the use of pliers from the body regions: palette, loin and shank. The measurement of the diameter of the bristles was performed with the aid of a precision micrometer, and for the length of the bristles it was measured with the aid of a digital caliper. For the characterization of the environment, the average data of air temperature (ºC), relative humidity (%) and solar radiation (W / m²) were used, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weather station of Fazenda Água Limpa - UnB. Data were analyzed through analysis of variance and frequency analysis with the aid of the "Statistical Analysis System" program, considering the effects of animals, months and body regions. A significant difference (p <0.05) was observed for all sources of variation evaluated in the experiment. During the months of December and January, where the highest temperatures and solar radiation were observed, a smaller diameter was observed in comparison with the colder months, differing from other mammals managed in tropical environments. Also for April it was observed the least temperature average in the value of 23,24ºC, and there was measured the biggest average of length of the bristles with a value of 44,72mm, a difference of approximately 13mm compared to the hottest months. It is concluded that for animals of low pigmentation the bristles had a longer length and a smaller diameter, differing from other species managed under similar conditions, reinforcing the need for further studies to evaluate morphological patterns ideal for free range system grown in tropical environments
