Epithelioid Leiomyosarcoma of Greater Omentum- Case Report of a Rare Tumour

    Get PDF
A 50 year old man presented with a large, circumscribed mass in the abdomen. With ultrasonography, computed tomography, endoscopy and FNAC, preoperative diagnosis could not be made. Complete resection of the mass was performed; the tumor weighed 10.5 kg. Immuno-histochemical study confirmed the diagnosis of epithelioid leiomyosarcoma (ELMS). These are generally solid tumours commonly arising from the stomach. It is uncommon in the greater omentum

A Randomized Control Trial to Assess the Efficacy of Calcium Alginate Dressing Versus Conventional Gauze Dressing on Bacterial Load in Infected Diabetic Foot Ulcer

Diabetic foot ulcers are common and estimated to affect 15% of all diabetic individual during their lifetime. Infection is one of the major cause for non-healing of the ulcer in diabetes. Objectives of present study were to measure the effect of calcium alginate dressing on bacterial load in infected diabetic foot ulcer in comparison to conventional gauze dressing.Present one year randomized controlled trial was conducted in Department of Surgery, KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Belgaum on 60 patients with infected diabetic foot ulcer during period of January 2008 to December 2008. Patients were divided into two different groups by number randomization (Group 1 Calcium alginate and Group 2 conventional gauze). Bacterial load was determined per gram of tissue before first and after third dressing in both groups. In the present study male preponderance was seen. The duration of DM was 6 to 10 years in majority of the patients. The mean bacterial load (X 105 CFU/gm tissue) before the first dressing in calcium alginate group was 513.3±122.4 while in conventional gauze group it was 516.7±117.7 and after the third dressing was 526.7±138.8 and 536.7±121.7 respectively. There was increase in bacterial load after the three dressings over the diabetic foot ulcer in both the groups. However this increase was not statistically significant (p=0.787).Present study has shown that dressing with calcium alginate is ineffective in reducing bacterial load of infected diabetic foot ulcers

Demonstration of the temporal matter-wave Talbot effect for trapped matter waves

    Get PDF
We demonstrate the temporal Talbot effect for trapped matter waves using ultracold atoms in an optical lattice. We investigate the phase evolution of an array of essentially non-interacting matter waves and observe matter-wave collapse and revival in the form of a Talbot interference pattern. By using long expansion times, we image momentum space with sub-recoil resolution, allowing us to observe fractional Talbot fringes up to 10th order.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figure

Kaon Production and Kaon to Pion Ratio in Au+Au Collisions at \snn=130 GeV

    Get PDF
Mid-rapidity transverse mass spectra and multiplicity densities of charged and neutral kaons are reported for Au+Au collisions at \snn=130 GeV at RHIC. The spectra are exponential in transverse mass, with an inverse slope of about 280 MeV in central collisions. The multiplicity densities for these particles scale with the negative hadron pseudo-rapidity density. The charged kaon to pion ratios are K+/π=0.161±0.002(stat)±0.024(syst)K^+/\pi^- = 0.161 \pm 0.002 {\rm (stat)} \pm 0.024 {\rm (syst)} and K/π=0.146±0.002(stat)±0.022(syst)K^-/\pi^- = 0.146 \pm 0.002 {\rm (stat)} \pm 0.022 {\rm (syst)} for the most central collisions. The K+/πK^+/\pi^- ratio is lower than the same ratio observed at the SPS while the K/πK^-/\pi^- is higher than the SPS result. Both ratios are enhanced by about 50% relative to p+p and pˉ\bar{\rm p}+p collision data at similar energies.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl

Azimuthal anisotropy at RHIC: the first and fourth harmonics

    Get PDF
We report the first observations of the first harmonic (directed flow, v_1), and the fourth harmonic (v_4), in the azimuthal distribution of particles with respect to the reaction plane in Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Both measurements were done taking advantage of the large elliptic flow (v_2) generated at RHIC. From the correlation of v_2 with v_1 it is determined that v_2 is positive, or {\it in-plane}. The integrated v_4 is about a factor of 10 smaller than v_2. For the sixth (v_6) and eighth (v_8) harmonics upper limits on the magnitudes are reported.Comment: 6 pages with 3 figures, as accepted for Phys. Rev. Metaverse marketing: how the metaverse will shape the future of consumer research and practice

    Get PDF
The initial hype and fanfare from the Meta Platforms view of how the metaverse could be brought to life has evolved into an ongoing discussion of not only the metaverse's impact on users and organizations but also the societal and cultural implications of widespread usage. The potential of consumer interaction with brands within the metaverse has engendered significant debate within the marketing-focused discourse on the key challenges and transformative opportunities for marketers. Drawing on insights from expert contributors, this study examines the marketing implications of the hypothetical widespread adoption of the metaverse. We identify new research directions and propose a new framework offering valuable contributions for academia, practice, and policy makers. Our future research agenda culminates in a checklist for researchers which clarifies how the metaverse can be beneficial to digital marketing and advertising, branding, services, value creation, and consumer wellbeing

    Comparing proton momentum distributions in A=2A=2 and 3 nuclei via 2^2H 3^3H and 3^3He (e,ep)(e, e'p) measurements

We report the first measurement of the (e,ep)(e,e'p) reaction cross-section ratios for Helium-3 (3^3He), Tritium (3^3H), and Deuterium (dd). The measurement covered a missing momentum range of 40pmiss55040 \le p_{miss} \le 550 MeV/c/c, at large momentum transfer (Q21.9\langle Q^2 \rangle \approx 1.9 (GeV/c/c)2^2) and xB>1x_B>1, which minimized contributions from non quasi-elastic (QE) reaction mechanisms. The data is compared with plane-wave impulse approximation (PWIA) calculations using realistic spectral functions and momentum distributions. The measured and PWIA-calculated cross-section ratios for 3^3He/d/d and 3^3H/d/d extend to just above the typical nucleon Fermi-momentum (kF250k_F \approx 250 MeV/c/c) and differ from each other by 20%\sim 20\%, while for 3^3He/3^3H they agree within the measurement accuracy of about 3\%. At momenta above kFk_F, the measured 3^3He/3^3H ratios differ from the calculation by 20%50%20\% - 50\%. Final state interaction (FSI) calculations using the generalized Eikonal Approximation indicate that FSI should change the 3^3He/3^3H cross-section ratio for this measurement by less than 5\%. If these calculations are correct, then the differences at large missing momenta between the 3^3He/3^3H experimental and calculated ratios could be due to the underlying NNNN interaction, and thus could provide new constraints on the previously loosely-constrained short-distance parts of the NNNN interaction.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures (4 panels
