    Sobre la formación de los conceptos geométricos y sobre el léxico geométrico

    El léxico geométrico está relacionado con un criterio de equivalencia entre figuras -normalmente dado por un grupo de transformación (K1ein) -. Puede haber un conflicto entre el lenguaje ordinario, el léxico geométrico tradicional y el criterio de equivalencia que puede sugerir una situación específica. En este artículo analizamos los resultados de un conjunto de preguntas con el objetivo de descubrir los criterios de equivalencia elegidos por los alumnos de entre 9 y 11 años, y la influencia de su léxico. Hemos observado una influencia considerable de los criterios basados en el grupo de traducciones y en el grupo de homoteties y traducciones. También hemos observado la influencia de ((modelos estándar)) (es decir, figuras que aparecen normalmente en sus libros), y algunas dificultades de conceptualización

    Covalency, double-counting and the metal-insulator phase diagram in transition metal oxides

    Dynamical mean field theory calculations are used to show that for late transition-metal-oxides a critical variable for the Mott/charge-transfer transition is the number of d-electrons, which is determined by charge transfer from oxygen ions. Insulating behavior is found only for a narrow range of d-occupancy, irrespective of the size of the intra-d Coulomb repulsion. The result is useful in interpreting 'density functional +U' and 'density functional plus dynamical mean field' methods in which additional correlations are applied to a specific set of orbitals and an important role is played by the 'double counting correction' which dictates the occupancy of these correlated orbitals. General considerations are presented and are illustrated by calculations for two representative transition metal oxide systems: layered perovskite Cu-based "high-Tc" materials, an orbitally non-degenerate electronically quasi-two dimensional systems, and pseudocubic rare earch nickelates, an orbitally degenerate electronically three dimensional system. Density functional calculations yield d-occupancies very far from the Mott metal-insulator phase boundary in the nickelate materials, but closer to it in the cuprates, indicating the sensitivity of theoretical models of the cuprates to the choice of double counting correction and corroborating the critical role of lattice distortions in attaining the experimentally observed insulating phase in the nickelates.Comment: 10+ pages, 5 figure

    Electronic correlations in Hund metals

    To clarify the nature of correlations in Hund metals and its relationship with Mott physics we analyze the electronic correlations in multiorbital systems as a function of intraorbital interaction U, Hund's coupling JH, and electronic filling n. We show that the main process behind the enhancement of correlations in Hund metals is the suppression of the double occupancy of a given orbital, as it also happens in the Mott insulator at half-filling. However, contrary to what happens in Mott correlated states the reduction of the quasiparticle weight Z with JH can happen in spite of increasing charge fluctuations. Therefore, in Hund metals the quasiparticle weight and the mass enhancement are not good measurements of the charge localization. Using simple energetic arguments we explain why the spin polarization induced by Hund's coupling produces orbital decoupling. We also discuss how the behavior at moderate interactions, with correlations controlled by the atomic spin polarization, changes at large U and JH due to the proximity to a Mott insulating state

    Effect of Geometry and Fluid Viscosity on Dynamics of Fluid-Filled Cracks: Insights From Analog Experimental Observations

    Fluid-filled volumes in geological systems can change the local stress field in the host rock and may induce brittle deformation as well as crack propagation. Although the mechanisms relating fluid pressure perturbations and seismicity have been widely studied, the fluid-solid interaction inside the crack of a host rock is still not well understood. An analog experimental model of fluid intrusion in cracks between planar layers has been developed to study stress conditions at the margins and tips. A combined high-speed shadowgraph and a photoelasticity imaging system is used to visualize the fluid dynamics and induced stresses on the solid matrix. Cavitation, as well as bubble growth and collapse, occurs along the sawtooth crack margins, which produces a highly localized stress concentration to initiate new subcrack systems. The presence of the bubbles at the crack tip during fluid pressure perturbation can enhance crack propagation

    Mott transitions with partially filled correlated orbitals

    We investigate the metal-insulator Mott transition in a generalized version of the periodic Anderson model, in which a band of itinerant non-interacting electrons is hybridrized with a narrow and strongly correlated band. Using the dynamical mean-field theory, we show that the precondition for the Mott transition is that the total filling of the two bands takes an odd integer value. Unlike the conventional portrait of the Mott transition, this condition corresponds to a non-integer filling of the correlated band. For an integer constant occupation of the correlated orbitals the system remains a correlated metal at arbitrary large interaction strength. We picture the transition at a non-integer filling of the correlated orbital as the Mott localization of the singlet states between itinerant and strongly interacting electrons, having occupation of one per lattice site. We show that the Mott transition is of the first order and we characterize the nature of the resulting insulating state with respect to relevant physical parameters, such as the charge-transfer energy

    Consumer Liking and Value Perception of Mountain Cheese from Different Pasture Periods: Evidence for Mountain Systems Supporting Policies

    Every year, mountain pastures show a progressive impoverishment of forage. The loss in grassland feed value restricts the production period of local Pecorino cheeses, which strongly depend on the vegetative cycle of the pasture linked to climatic conditions. The Monte Fietone mountain area (Macerata, Italy) has emblematic pasture flora during spring and early summer. This unique environment is normally used for rearing sheep, allowing regular production of local Pecorino cheeses from their milk, which is rich in vitamins and intrinsic floral aromas. Biologists and agronomists are giving increasing importance to these mountain food products. We conducted sensorial tests and experimental auctions to investigate recognition of the quality of this rare artisanal product. The results indicate considerable potential for economic differentiation. Accordingly, we recommend useful and applicable marketing and policy actions to support the sustainability of mountain grazing systems

    Genetic heterogeneity and recombination in human type 2 astroviruses

    Novel lineages of human astrovirus (HAstV) types 2, 2c, and 2d have been identified. Upon sequencing of the 3= end of the genome, the type 2c and 2d HAstVs were found to be open reading frame 1b (ORF1b)-ORF2 recombinant, with ORF1b being derived from type 3 and type 1 HAstVs, respectively. An ORF2 interlineage recombinant strain, 2c/2b, was also identified
