    Still ‘fire in the (full) belly’? Anti-establishment rhetoric before and after government participation

    Scholars argued that anti-establishment parties use a populist rhetoric that appeals to the worst instincts of people. Indeed, populist politicians are often viewed as charismatic leaders that have fire in their belly. While in the past these parties heavily relied on anti-establishment platforms and communication rhetoric, their increasing electoral success along with the growing duties linked with government membership transform them into more established parties, rather than pure outsiders, and cast doubts on the feasibility of keeping a populist rhetoric. This paper compares right-wing and non-right-wing populism, investigating whether populist leaders change their rhetorical strategy once in office, decreasing the level of negativity and adopting a more forward-looking and inclusive style of communication, with a stronger focus on fulfilling the policy proposal made during the electoral campaign rather than blaming political rivals. For this purpose, we collected a new corpus of political speeches extracted from video messages posted on Facebook by four anti-establishment party leaders in three countries (Austria, Italy and Spain), from 2016 to 2018, i.e., immediately before and immediately after their access to power. Overall, 30 h of recorded audio from 215 videos (amounting to around 140 million visualizations) have been analyzed using topic models and well-established semantic psycholinguistic dictionaries. The results highlight slight changes in the rhetoric of populist leaders once in power, mostly for non-right-wing populists, as their language becomes less negative, less assertive and more focused on government duties

It allows users to share/post opinions, social media events, and interact with other political and ordinary people. According to Statista web site 2019 statistical report, it estimated that the number of users on Twitter had grown dramatically over the past couple of years to research 300 million users. Twitter has become the largest source of news and postings for key presidents and political figures. Referring to the Trackalytics 2019 report, the recent president of the USA had posted 4,000 tweets per year, which indicates an average of 11–12 tweets per day. Our research proposes a technique that extracts and analyzes tweets from blogs and predicts election results based on tweets analysis. It assessed the people’s opinion and studied the impact that might predict the final results for the Turkey 2018 presidential election candidates. The final results were compared with the actual election results and had a high accuracy prediction percentage based on the collected 22,000 tweets

    Ge-on-Si single-photon avalanche diode detectors: design, modeling, fabrication, and characterization at wavelengths 1310 and 1550 nm

    The design, modeling, fabrication, and characterization of single-photon avalanche diode detectors with an epitaxial Ge absorption region grown directly on Si are presented. At 100 K, a single-photon detection efficiency of 4% at 1310 nm wavelength was measured with a dark count rate of ~ 6 megacounts/s, resulting in the lowest reported noise-equivalent power for a Ge-on-Si single-photon avalanche diode detector (1×10-14 WHz-1/2). The first report of 1550 nm wavelength detection efficiency measurements with such a device is presented. A jitter of 300 ps was measured, and preliminary tests on after-pulsing showed only a small increase (a factor of 2) in the normalized dark count rate when the gating frequency was increased from 1 kHz to 1 MHz. These initial results suggest that optimized devices integrated on Si substrates could potentially provide performance comparable to or better than that of many commercially available discrete technologies

    Two neutrino positron double beta decay of 106^{106}Cd for 0+→0+0^+ \to 0^+ transition

    The two neutrino positron double beta decay of 106^{106}Cd for 0+→^{+} \to 0+^{+} transition has been studied in the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov model in conjunction with the summation method. In the first step, the reliability of the intrinsic wave functions of 106^{106}Cd and 106^{106}Pd nuclei has been tested by comparing the theoretically calculated results for yrast spectra, reduced B(E2B(E2:0+→2+)0^{+}\to 2^{+}) transition probabilities, quadrupole moments Q(2+)Q(2^{+}) and gyromagnetic factors g(2+)g(2^{+}) with the available experimental data. In the second step, the nuclear transition matrix element M2ÎœM_{2\nu} and the half-life T1/22ÎœT_{1/2}^{2\nu} for 0+→^{+}\to 0+^{+} transition have been calculated with these wave functions.     Hepatitis B infection in HIV-1-infected patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy in Lomé, Togo: Prevalence and molecular consequences

    Background. No data are available on HIV/hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus coinfection in Togo, and patients are not routinely tested for HBV infection.Objectives. To determine the prevalence of HBV and the risk of HBV drug resistance during antiretroviral treatment in HIV-coinfected patients in Togo.Method. This cross-sectional study was carried out in Lomé, Togo, from January 2010 to December 2011 among HIV-infected patients who had been on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for at least 6 months.Results. In total, 1 212 patients (74.9% female) living with HIV/AIDS and treated with ART were included in the study. The seroprevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) was 9.7% (117/1 212; 95% confidence interval (CI) 8.04 - 11.45). Of these 117 HBsAg-positive patients, 16 (13.7%) were hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-positive, and 115 (98.3%) were on lamivudine. The HBV DNA load was >10 IU/ mL in 33/117 patients overall (38%), and in 87.5% of 16 HBeAg positive patients (p<0.0001). In multivariate analysis, factors associated with HBV DNA load >10 IU/mL were HBeAg positivity (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 6.4; p=0.001) and a higher level of education (aOR 6.5; p=0.026). The prevalence of HBV resistance to lamivudine was 13.0% (15/115; 95% CI 7.0 - 19.0). The detected resistance mutations were rtL180M (14/15 patients) and rtM204V/I (15/15).Conclusion. The seroprevalence of HBV among ART-treated HIV-infected patients in Togo was 9.7%. The prevalence of HBV lamivudine resistance mutations after 2 years of ART was 13.0%. These results suggest that HBV screening before ART initiation can be based on HBsAg testing

    New Higgs signals induced by mirror fermion mixing effects

    We study the conditions under which flavor violation arises in scalar-fermion interactions, as a result of the mixing phenomena between the standard model and exotic fermions. Phenomenological consequences are discussed within the specific context of a left-right model where these additional fermions have mirror properties under the new SU(2)_R gauge group. Bounds on the parameters of the model are obtained from LFV processes; these results are then used to study the LFV Higgs decays (H --> tau l_j, l_j = e, mu), which reach branching ratios that could be detected at future colliders.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, ReVTex4, graphicx, to be published in Phys.     The two neutrino double beta decay of 124,126^{124,126}Xe,128,130^{128,130}Te, 130,132 ^{130,132}Ba and 150^{150}Nd isotopes is studied in the Projected Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (PHFB) model. Theoretical 2Îœ\nu ÎČ−ÎČ−\beta^{-}\beta ^{-} half-lives of 128,130^{128,130}Te, and 150^{150}Nd isotopes, and 2ÎœÎČ+ÎČ+\nu \beta^{+}\beta^{+}, 2Îœ\nu ÎČ+EC\beta^{+}EC and 2Îœ\nu ECECECEC for 124,126 ^{124,126}Xe and 130,132^{130,132}Ba nuclei are presented. Calculated quadrupolar transition probabilities B(E2: 0+→2+0^+\to 2^+), static quadrupole moments and gg factors in the parent and daughter nuclei reproduce the experimental information, validating the reliability of the model wave functions. The anticorrelation between nuclear deformation and the nuclear transition matrix element M2ÎœM_{2\nu} is confirmed.Comment: 19 page
