Cuban immigrants in the United States: what determines their earnings distribution?

Este artículo analiza la distribución de ingresos condicionales de los inmigrantes cubanos en los Estados Unidos usando OLS y analizando una Regresión Cuantílica. Los datos usados en este estudio fueron tomados del American Community Survey (ACS) de los Estados Unidos y fueron suministrados por IPUMS (2011). Los resultados muestran que incrementos en los ingresos asociados a diferentes características socioeconómicas tales como: el sexo, estado civil, etnia, manejo del idioma inglés y educación varían entre las diferentes distribuciones de ingresos.In this paper the conditional earnings distribution of Cuban immigrants in the U.S. using OLS and Quantile Regression is analyzed. The data used in the study come from the 2011 American Community Survey (ACS) in the U.S. provided by IPUMS (2011). The results show that increments in earnings associated with different socioeconomic characteristics such as: sex, marital status, ethnicity, proficiency in English and education vary across the earnings distribution.Este artigo analisa a distribuição de ingressos condicionais dos imigrantes cubanos nos Estados Unidos usando OLS e analisando uma Regressão Quantílica. El Estado de las cooperativas de consumo: un enfoque de abajo hacia arriba

Este trabajo parte de la duda sobre la continuidad y el futuro de las cooperativas de consumo. Para ello, realiza un análisis estadístico de la evolución de la Economía Social y sitúa, dentro del contexto VICA, a las cooperativas de consumo, con una perspectiva escalar que permite tener una visión territorial de Andalucía, España y Europa. Apoyado en el método científico inductivo (análisis descriptivo), la investigación traza la evolución y la situación actual de las cooperativas de consumo, abriendo un debate sobre el estrenado decrecimiento de estas empresas de Economía Social. Las principales derivaciones señalan una situación crítica y una desvinculación del ámbito local. Sin embargo, fuera del cuantitativismo, en las redes sociales, se observa un fortalecimiento de los valores del cooperativismo de consumo que podría abrir una nueva vía de crecimiento.This paper starts from the doubt about the continuity and the future of the consumer cooperatives. To do this, it carries out a statistical analysis of the evolution of the Social Economy and situates, within the VICA context, the consumer cooperatives, with a scalar perspective that allows having a territorial view of Andalusia, Spain and Europe. Based on the scientific inductive method (descriptive analysis), the research describes the evolution and the current situation of the consumer cooperatives, opening a debate about the first decline of these enterprises of Social Economy. The main conclusions show a critical situation and a disconnection from the local scope. However, outside of quantitative, in social networks there is a strengthening of the values of consumer co-operatives that could open a new path of growth

A Double Classification of Common Pitfalls in Ontologies

The application of methodologies for building ontologies has improved the ontology quality. However, such a quality is not totally guaranteed because of the difficulties involved in ontology modelling. These difficulties are related to the inclusion of anomalies or worst practices in the modelling. In this context, our aim in this paper is twofold: (1) to provide a catalogue of common worst practices, which we call pitfalls, and (2) to present a double classification of such pitfalls. These two products will serve in the ontology development in two ways: (a) to avoid the appearance of pitfalls in the ontology modelling, and (b) to evaluate and correct ontologies to improve their quality

Pattern for Re-engineering a Classification Scheme, which Follows the Adjacency List Data Model, to a Taxonomy

This pattern for re-engineering non-ontological resources (pr-nor) fits in the schema re-engineering category proposed by [3]. The pattern defines a procedure that transforms the classification scheme components into ontology representational primitives. This pattern comes from the experience of ontology engineers in developing ontologies using classification schemes in several projects (seemp 1 , neon 2 , and knowledge web 3 ). The pattern is included in a pool of patterns, which is a key element of our method for re-engineering non-ontological resources into ontologies [2]. Formulation of a project for the design of a pedagogical tool that makes use of augmented reality to be used by students of basic media

El presente trabajo muestra la importancia de la enseñanza de conceptos de lógica de programación en colegios e instituciones educativas del departamento de Boyacá, y su posible implementación mediante la creación de una herramienta pedagógica e interactiva que haga uso de tecnologías relacionadas con la realidad aumentada para cumplir con los requerimientos de este tipo de catedra. El documento presenta, paso a paso, las bases científicas que apoyan la importancia de la enseñanza de estos conceptos a temprana edad, así como la formulación y conceptualización del diseño y desarrollo de la herramienta pedagógica para que pueda ser llevada a cabo por un equipo de desarrollo. A través de este documento se resalta la oportunidad encontrada, validando todas las variables técnicas, financieras y de mercado que se deben tener en cuenta para su implementación. Por último, es necesario hacer énfasis en la interactividad que requieren este tipo de aplicaciones para satisfacer a su público objetivo.This paper shows the importance of teaching programming logic concepts in schools and educational institutions in the Department of Boyacá and its possible implementation through the creation of an interactive pedagogical tool that uses technologies related to augmented reality to fulfill the requirements of this type of chair. The document presents, step by step, the scientific bases that support the importance of teaching these concepts at an early age, as well as the formulation and conceptualization of the design and development of the pedagogical tool so that it can be developed by a development team. Through this document, the opportunity is highlighted, validating all the technical, financial and market variables that are taken into account for its implementation. Finally, it is necessary to emphasize the interaction that these types of applications require to satisfy their target audience

Stopping Criterion for the Mean Shift Iterative Algorithm

Image segmentation is a critical step in computer vision tasks constituting an essential issue for pattern recognition and visual interpretation.
