Pricing of drugs and donations: options for sustainable equity pricing.

Effective medicines exist to treat or alleviate many diseases which predominate in the developing world and cause high mortality and morbidity rates. Price should not be an obstacle preventing access to these medicines. Increasingly, drug donations have been established by drug companies, but these are often limited in time, place or use. Measures exist which are more sustainable and will have a greater positive impact on people's health. Principally, these are encouraging generic competition; adopting into national legislation and implementing TRIPS safeguards to gain access to cheaper sources of drugs; differential pricing; creating high volume or high demand through global and regional procurement; and supporting the production of quality generic drugs by developing countries through voluntary licenses if needed, and facilitating technology transfer

Los límites de la ficción: narrativa y estética de Los Borja en el videojuego Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

Resumen: Los videojuegos se han convertido desde finales del siglo XX en una de las prácticas culturales más extendidas del mundo, creando nuevas formas de socialización Si Le Corbusier consideraba la arquitectura doméstica como una máquina de habitar, los videojuegos podrían ser considerados como máquinas de contar, de relatar historias, como la de los Borja. El videojuego Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (2010) es un ejemplo de como la realidad histórica y la ficción se entremezclan para generar un producto cultural y artístico de gran calidad e impacto social. Este trabajo consistirá en analizar la narrativa y estética del videojuego en relación a la figura del los Borja. No obstante, estudiaremos aspectos paralelos en relación como el papel de la industria de los videojuegos y su incidencia en los modelos de socialización sexista que aparecen reflejados en los personajes y narrativas Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, o la importancia de la ficción en las construcciones de narrativas contemporáneas. Observaremos como la historia de la familia Borja ha servido de inspiración a múltiples prácticas artísticas que han utilizado los elementos ficcionados para llegar al público de masas. Y ahora en el siglo XXI, los videojuegos, se han convertido en una especie de relevo que propone una nueva forma de configuración en el imaginario colectivo. Abstract: Since the end of the 20th century, video-games have become one of the most popular cultural practices in the world, creating new socializing ways. If Le Corbusier considered domestic architecture as a machine for living, video-games could be considered machines for narrating stories, such as the Borgias’. The video-game Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (2010) is an example of how historical facts and fiction can mix to produce a cultural and artistic product of great quality and social impact. This work will consist of analysing the narrative and aesthetics of the video-game, in relation to the figures of the Borgias. Nonetheless, parallel aspects will be explored, such as the role of industry and its incidence in the gender-biased socialization that can be observed in the characters and narratives of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, or the importance of fiction in contemporary narrative building. We will observe how the history of the Borgias has served as an inspiration for several artistic practices, which have used hypothetical elements to reach the broad public. Now, in the 21st century, video-games have become a relay that proposes a new way of configuring public imagination

El uso de las TIG en los barrios informales: una herramienta indispensable de evaluación y planificación. El caso de ESF-Cat en Mozambique

Con la voluntad de mejorar la planificación y evaluación de los proyectos urbanos de ESF-Cat, desde sus inicios el Programa Barrios de Maputo (Mozambique) se planteó, como una herramienta indispensable, la elaboración de una Línea Base de Información a través de las TIG, y en especial, de los SIG. La futura elaboración del Plan Urbanístico del barrio de Maxaquene ‘A’ constata, aún más, la necesidad real de contar con una información de base, organizada y centralizada, y además, pone sobre la mesa la discusión ética y económica del uso de software libre o privativo. Micro air vehicles energy transportation for a wireless power transfer system

The aim of this work is to demonstrate the feasibility use of an Micro air vehicles (MAV) in order to power wirelessly an electric system, for example, a sensor network, using low-cost and open-source elements. To achieve this objective, an inductive system has been modelled and validated to power wirelessly a sensor node using a Crazyflie 2.0 as MAV. The design of the inductive system must be small and light enough to fulfil the requirements of the Crazyflie. An inductive model based on two resonant coils is presented. Several coils are defined to be tested using the most suitable resonant configuration. Measurements are performed to validate the model and to select the most suitable coil. While attempting to minimize the weight at transmitter’s side, on the receiver side it is intended to efficiently acquire and manage the power obtained from the transmitter. In order to prove its feasibility, a temperature sensor node is used as demonstrator. The experiment results show successfully energy transportation by MAV, and wireless power transfer for the resonant configuration, being able to completely charge the node battery and to power the temperature sensor.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Noves dades sobre briòfits semifòssils de la Garrotxa

Hom ha estudiat els briòfits semifòssils dels diferents nivells torbosos de quatre columnes sedimentàries extretes de dipòsits quaternaris de la zona volcànica de la Garrotxa. Hom ha determinat 5 taxons: Drepanocladus aduncus, Leptodyctium riparium, Eurhynchium schleicheri, Homalothecium sp. i Meesia triquetra. M. triquetra no s'havia trobat mai a Catalunya i només se'n coneixen dues citacions a tota la península Ibèrica, ambdues del segle passat. Hom discuteix l'origen sedimentari de les cinc espècies així com les possibles causes de l'extinció de M. triquetra.This is a survey of subfossil bryophytes in different peat layers of four quaternary lake sediment cores from the volcanic area of La Garrotxa, in Catalonia (Spain). Five taxa of subfossil mosses have been identified: Drepanocladus aduncus, Leptodyctium riparium, Eurhynchium schleicheri, Homalothecium sp. and Meesia triquetra. M. triquetra had never been found in Catalonia and only two references are know in the whole Iberian Peninsula, both dated from last century. The sedimentary origin of these species, as well as the possible causes of the extinction of M. triquetra, are discussed

SUSY Spectrum and the Higgs Mass in the BLMSSM

The predictions for the mass of the light CP-even Higgs are investigated in the context of a simple extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model where the baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries. This theory predicts the existence of light charged and neutral leptons which give extra contributions to the Higgs mass at the one-loop level. We show the possibility to satisfy the LEP2 bound and achieve a Higgs mass around 125 GeV in a supersymmetric spectrum with light sfermions and small left-right mixing in the stop sector. We make a brief discussion of the unique leptonic signals at the Large Hadron Collider. This theory predicts baryon number violation at the low scale and one could avoid the current LHC bounds on the supersymmetric mass spectrum.Comment: references added, minor corrections, to appear in Physics Letters
