Zinc(II), cobalt(II) and manganese(II) networks with phosphoserine ligand: Synthesis, crystal structures magnetic and conduction properties

    Get PDF
A series of zinc(II), cobalt(II) and manganese(II) coordination networks with the phosphoserine ligand (Pser) is synthesized and characterized. Whereas in compounds 1 and 2 with the general formula [M(Pser)]n [M = Zn (1) and Co(2)], the metal(II) ion presents a tetrahedral geometry, in [Co(Pser)(H2O)2]n (3) and [Mn(Pser)(H2O)]n (4)], the metal(II) ions are in a distorted octahedral geometry. The 3D frameworks are formed by inorganic layers built up from MO4 or MO6 polyhedra and phosphate groups. These layers are linked by the carboxylate groups of the phosphoserine ligand. The presence of extended hydrogen bonding stabilizes the 3D network and favors the proton transfer leading to moderate proton conductors. The highest proton conductivity, 2.70·10−5 S cm−1 (at 80 ºC and 95% RH), is obtained for compound 3. Temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements for 2−4 reveal predominant antiferromagnetic interactions between the paramagnetic metal(II) ions.Proyectos MAT2013-41836-R y MAT2016-77648-R del MINECO, y proyecto (P12-FQM-1656) de la Junta de Andalucía

Evaluation of the primitive fraction by functional in vitro assays at the RNA and DNA level represents a novel tool for complementing molecular monitoring in chronic myeloid leukemia

Quantification of BCR-ABL1 mRNA levels in peripheral blood of chronic myeloidleukemia patients is a strong indicator of response to tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKI)treatment. However, additional prognostic markers are needed in order to better classify patients. The hypothesis of leukemic stem cells (LSCs) heterogeneity and persistence, suggests that their functional evaluation could be of clinical interest. In this work, we assessed the primitive and progenitor fractions in patients at diagnosis and during TKI treatment using functional in vitro assays, defining a ?functional leukemic burden? (FLB). We observed that the FLB was reduced in vivo in both fractions upon treatment. However, different FLB levels were observed among patients according to their response to treatment, suggesting that quantification of the FLB could complement early molecular monitoring. Given that FLB assessment is limited by BCR-ABL1 mRNA expression levels, we developed a novel detection method of primitive cells at the DNA level, using patient-specific primers and direct nested PCR in colonies obtained from functional in vitro assays. We believe that this methodcould be useful in the context of discontinuation trials, given that it is unknown whether the persistent leukemic clone represents LSCs, able to resume the leukemia upon TKI removal. The purpose of this project is to obtain hybrid materials from rare earth and graphene organic metal networks to increase the emission of lanthanides in their respective wavelengths (green and red). The metalorganic systems studied were Terbio: Thenoyltrifluoroacetone and Europium: Thenoyltrifluoroacetone in a proportion of [1: 3] respectively. Once the synthesis was performed, a luminescence analysis was carried out, with the aim of comparing the emission of the organics with and without the incorporation of graphene oxide. Graphene oxide was subsequently synthesized by the modified Hummer method and characterized by X-ray Diffraction to verify the structural phase. For the formation of the hybrid material, graphene oxide was added to the organic material before its precipitation. Finally, characterizations of Luminescence, X-ray Diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy of the hybrid materials were made

Low Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet in Isolated Adolescents: The Mediation Effects of Stress

    Get PDF
Loneliness perception during adolescence has been increased dramatically in recent years. Changes in lifestyle and difficulties in social interaction could explain this increased phenomenon. As described in previous research, this fact has been associated with the development of high stress levels and dysfunctional lifestyles, in which eating habits play a main role. In this regard, loneliness has been classically associated with poor eating habits, fundamentally the consumption of processed food with little nutritional value. However, the relationship between loneliness and healthy eating patterns, such as the Mediterranean Diet (MD), has not been previously analyzed. The main aim of the present study was to identify the relationship between perceived loneliness, stress, dietary habits, and adherence to the MD in a sample of 527 Spanish adolescents. The obtained results show a significant association between high perceived loneliness and high stress levels with lower MD adherence. Hence, adolescents with high perceived loneliness exhibit poor dietary habits in comparison to those counterparts with low perceived loneliness. Mediation analyses demonstrated an indirect effect of the loneliness on adherence to the MD through the mediation effect of stress. These findings point out a possible mechanism that underlies the classic association between loneliness and health deterioration, based on a poor adherence to a healthy dietary pattern, such as the MD.This work was supported by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) and the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) under project TIN2017-89069-R

Age-dependent association of clonal hematopoiesis with COVID-19 mortality in patients over 60 years.

Clonal hematopoiesis, especially that of indeterminate potential (CHIP), has been associated with age-related diseases, such as those contributing to a more severe COVID-19. Four studies have attempted to associate CHIP with COVID-19 severity without conclusive findings. In the present work, we explore the association between CHIP and COVID-19 mortality. Genomic DNA extracted from peripheral blood of COVID-19 patients (n = 241 deceased, n = 239 survivors) was sequenced with the Myeloid Solutions™ panel of SOPHiA Genetics. The association between clonality and age and clonality and mortality was studied using logistic regression models adjusted for sex, ethnicity, and comorbidities. The association with mortality was performed with patients stratified into four groups of age according to the quartiles of the distribution: 60–74 years, 75–84 years, 85–91 years, and 92–101 years. Clonality was found in 38% of the cohort. The presence of CHIP variants, but not the number, significantly increased with age in the entire cohort of COVID-19 patients, as well as in the group of survivors (p < 0.001). When patients were stratified by age and the analysis adjusted, CHIP classified as pathogenic/likely pathogenic was significantly more represented in deceased patients compared with survivors in the group of 75–84 years (34.6% vs 13.7%, p = 0.020). We confirmed the well-established linear relationship between age and clonality in the cohort of COVID-19 patients and found a significant association between pathogenic/likely pathogenic CHIP and mortality in patients from 75 to 84 years that needs to be further validated.post-print1034 K
