Estimating Human Capital Externalities:The Case of Spanish Regions

We estimate the strength of schooling externalities for Spanish regions over the 1981-2001 period. Our empirical work employs both main approaches available in the literature. Both methodologies yield significant externalities. Using a growth accounting exercise, we find that human capital externalities account for one half of the increase in real wages for the period between 1981 and 2001.externalities, human capital, constant composition.

La definición de un umbral de velocidad para medir el nivel de servicio en carreteras de dos carriles

[Resumen:] Este artículo presenta una manera alternativa de emplear la velocidad de recorrido y el porcentaje de tiempo siguiendo (que son las dos variables utilizadas por el Manual de Capacidad) para evaluar el nivel de servicio en carreteras de dos carriles. Implica la definición de una velocidad umbral aceptable para los usuarios. Los viajeros esperan un servicio diferente de vías diferentes, y en el caso de carreteras convencionales de dos carriles el deseo de adelantar o el nivel de estrés o ligera frustración de los conductores no es una función únicamente del intervalo que les separa del vehículo precedente, ni de la diferencia entre la velocidad desarrollada y la deseada. Por tanto, los planteamientos simplistas no reflejan adecuadamente el punto de vista del conductor. El procedimiento de la velocidad umbral puede ser empleado en carreteras de tipos I y II (clasificación actual) o para otros tipos que puedan ser considerados en el futuro

Portable low profile antenna at X-band

An antenna which has been conceived as a portable system for satellite communications based on the recommendations ITU-R S.580-6 and ITU-R S.465-5 for small antennas, i.e., with a diameter lower than 50 wavelengths, is introduced. It is a planar and a compact structure with a size of 40×40×2 cm. The antenna is formed by an array of 256 printed elements covering a large bandwidth (14.7%) at X-Band with a VSWR of 1.4:1. The specification includes transmission (Tx) and reception (Rx) bands simultaneously. The printed antenna has a radiation pattern with a 3dB beamwidth of 5°, over a 31dBi gain, and a dual and an interchangeable circular polarization

La Plaza de Capuchinos de Córdoba. El origen de un espacio emblemático

La Plaza de Capuchinos es uno de los espacios más representativos de la ciudad de Córdoba. Al igual que muchas de las plazas que forman el trazado urbano de la ciudad, es un espacio que surge a raíz de los acuerdos establecidos entre las comunidades que la configuran. Por un lado, el hospital de San Jacinto y por el otro lado, el convento del Santo Ángel de padres capuchinos. Ambas congregaciones llegaron a unos acuerdos que concluyeron con la apertura de lo que hoy día denominamos como Plaza de Capuchinos. A partir de la primera mitad del siglo XVIII, dicho espacio va a quedar plasmado en el trazado urbano y va a ir forjándose como uno de los lugares más emblemáticos y de mayor representación de toda la ciudad. Este estudio pretende mostrar dichos acuerdos y analizar el proceso que llevaron a cabo ambas comunidades hasta concluir con la apertura de la plaza.The square Plaza de Capuchinos is one of the most representative places of Córdoba. Just as many of the other squares that make up the urban layout of the city, this is an environment that arises from the agreements established between the communities that formed part of it. On the one hand, the Hospital of San Jacinto; and on the other hand, the Capuchin Friars’ convent of Santo Ángel. Both congregations reached to some agreements that concluded on the opening of the current square Plaza de Capuchinos. From the first half of the 18th century, this square has formed part of the urban layout of Córdoba, and it has configured itself as one of the most emblematic and representative places of the city. This research study describes the before mentioned agreements and analyses the process followed by both communities until the opening of the square

Diseño y evaluación de un programa de informática aplicada a la investigación educativa

Este artículo presenta un estudio empírico de carácter evaluativo sobre el programa de la asignatura "Informática Aplicada a la Investigación Educativa". Esta materia surge en los nuevos planes de estudio de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación, concretamente como parte de la Licenciatura Pedagogía, y supone una respuesta del plan a la necesidad de formación científica en la actual Sociedad del Conocimiento, un aspecto que tiene escasa tradición en cuanto a propuestas curriculares. Ello justifica que abordemos tanto el contexto curricular y científico en que surge la materia, como la propuesta de programa de formación y su evaluación.This article presents an empiric study of evaluative character about the program proposed in Informática Aplicada a la Investigación Educativa. This matter arises on new sillabi of the ability of Sciences of the Education, specifically like part of the Licentiate of Pedagogy. It supposes an answer from the plan to the necessity of scientific formation in the current Society of the Knowledge, and it lacking tradition as for previous curricular proposals in this sense.
