The intervention on the deciduous and/or mixed dentition in Orthodontics is a possibility defended by many authors in the literature, characterizing Preventive and Interceptive Orthodontics. As clinical interceptive attitudes there are maxillary disjunction, the recovery or closure of spaces, tooth traction, correction of crossbite and open bite, in addition to others procedures. Among interceptive clinical attitudes there are maxillary disjunction, the recovery of space or closure of spaces, traction of teeth, correction of crossbite and open bite, in addition to others procedures. The present study aims to report the case of a 9 year and 7 months old pacient, who attend to treatment at the Orthodontics and Facial Orthopedics Clinic of FO UFRGS, with localized problems for which interceptive treatments were indicated. Among patient’s dysfunctions, the following can be highlighted: maxillary atresia, anterior crossbite, dental crowding, mandibular canine impaction, lower second molar agenesis and anomaly in mandibular second premolars’ form

Changes in biological properties over several generations, induced by controlling shortterm evolutionary processes in the laboratory through selective pressure, and whole-genome re-sequencing, help determine the genetic basis of microorganism’s adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE). Due to the versatility of this technique and the imminent urgency for alternatives to petroleum-based strategies, ALE has been actively conducted for several yeasts, primarily using the conventional species Saccharomyces cerevisiae, but also non-conventional yeasts. As a hot topic at the moment since genetically modified organisms are a debatable subject and a global consensus on their employment has not yet been attained, a panoply of new studies employing ALE approaches have emerged and many different applications have been exploited in this context. In the present review, we gathered, for the first time, relevant studies showing the ALE of non-conventional yeast species towards their biotechnological improvement, cataloging them according to the aim of the study, and comparing them considering the species used, the outcome of the experiment, and the employed methodology. This review sheds light on the applicability of ALE as a powerful tool to enhance species features and improve their performance in biotechnology, with emphasis on the non-conventional yeast species, as an alternative or in combination with genome editing approaches. This work was supported by the UID/BIA/04050/2013 (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007569) and UID/BIA/04050/2019 strategic programs and the project PTDC/BIA-MIC/32059/2017, which is funded by national funds through the FCT-Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia and by the ERDF-European Regional Development Fund through the COMPETE2020–Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização (POCI) and Sistema de Apoio à Investigação Científica e Tecnológica (SAICT). This work presents an excerpt of an intervention developed with 14 academics from the 2nd semester of the Rural Education Course. The objective was to analyze the academics' personal didactic models, regarding the four didactic Dimensions proposed by Garcia Pérez (2000), through the lesson plans prepared before and after the intervention. In addition, teaching methodologies and forms of evaluation were also analyzed. Methodologically, this research is qualitative as to its nature and exploratory as to its objectives. Results initially revealed that academics include aspects of Traditional DM in their lesson plans (72%), equivalent in the four didactic dimensions and Only 28% were classified as Technological and Spontaneist. However, after the intervention, there were significant understandings about teaching. Finally, the importance of theoretical-methodological interventions in the initial training of teachers is highlighted, as the insertion of new methodologies for the teaching of Natural Sciences can significantly contribute to more constructivist didactic models

Associations between chronic pelvic pain and psychiatric disorders and symptoms

Background Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a complex condition wich is associated with emotional factors, specially depression and anxiety. Objectives To make a systematic review to provide a detailed summary of relevant literature on the association between CPP and different psychiatric disorders/symptoms. Methods A systematic review of articles in the international literature published between 2003 and 2014 was performed in the electronic databases PubMed, PsycINFO, LILACS, and SciELO using the terms (chronic pelvic pain) AND (psychiatry OR psychiatric OR depression OR anxiety OR posttraumatic stress OR somatoform). The searches returned a total of 529 matches that were filtered according to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 18 articles were selected. Results The investigations focused mainly on the assessment of depression and anxiety disorders/symptoms, with rather high rates (17-38.6%). Depression and anxiety symptoms were more prevalent among women with CPP compared to healthy groups. Comparisons between groups with CPP and with specific pathologies that also have pain as a symptom showed that depression indicators are more frequent in CPP. Depressive symptoms tend to be more common in CPP and have no particular association with pain itself, the core feature of CPP. Discussion Other aspects of CPP seem to play a specific role in this association. Anxiety and other psychiatric disorders require further investigation so that their impact on CPP can be better understood
