The effect of government budget on Portuguese stock market
Government budget reflects a prevision of future expenses and revenues which will predict the economic and financial situation of the country. This paper studies the effect of the publication, approval and actions inside the Portuguese government budget on the stock market performance of Portuguese companies. Additionally, the effects of presidential and legislative elections are also tested in the stock prices. The 46 companies represented in this study are listed on the Portuguese Stock Index between 1998 and 2013. I realize that a publication of government budget to the Parliament leads to a positive and significant return on the full sample results, basic materials and consumer services sector. The same sectors react in a positive way to periods of presidential elections. This study also provides a comparison between sectors. The consumer services sector reveals to be the more volatile sector before changes in the resources invested in each ministry. The consumer services sector is predominantly affected, in a negative way, by not rational expenses in the Ministry of Health. The financial sector has negative reactions on stock returns when the investment in the Ministry of Finance is reduced by the State
The effect of Brand Experience on Consumer Satisfaction, Brand Trust and Brand Loyalty - In the Portuguese Skincare Industry
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Marketing IntelligenceThis study intends to understand and examine the direct and indirect effects that brand experience may have on consumer satisfaction, brand trust and brand loyalty, and ultimately to determine whether Portuguese women have brand loyalty when it comes to skincare products in the cosmetic sector and what can be done to improve that loyalty. The main factors that may affect the purchase of this type of products were also analyzed in order to determine which factors exert higher influence on Portuguese women when it comes to the purchase of skincare products. With this in mind, the results provided by this study will contribute to the existing knowledge in this subject with meaningful data that has clear practical application, since it can help either existing or new domestic and international companies to better understand the Portuguese market and consequently, develop their marketing strategies. A total of 255 responses were collected through an online questionnaire that targeted Portuguese women with ages between 18 and 65. The findings of this study revealed that brand experience has a significantly and positive effect on consumer satisfaction, brand trust and brand loyalty. In addition, a mediation analysis showed that consumer experience and brand trust significantly mediate the relationship between brand experience and brand loyalty. The findings also demonstrate that country of origin (preference for Portuguese products), price and social influence have a significative influence on brand loyalty, while the organic nature of skincare products and the use of harmful ingredients in these products don’t affect brand loyalty in a significative way
Assessment and simulation of atrazine as influenced by drainage and irrigation: an interface between RZWQM and ArcView GIS
Atrazine is the most frequently detected herbicide in groundwater. For these reasons, atrazine\u27s dynamics need to be studied, and work is needed to develop and calibrate mathematical models to help in determining best management practices to minimize contamination. This study was designed to make a small contribution in solving some of the environmental related problems; In the first part of this study, macroporosity of an agricultural soil in Iowa was characterized. This study confirmed that under saturated and partially saturated flow conditions, macropore flow was a dominant mechanism for water and chemical transport;Atrazine\u27s movement through the soil profile was investigated in two, but representative, soils of the Sorraia Valley region, in Portugal, under irrigated conditions. These soils (alluvial and sandy soils) were monitored for atrazine and soil water content during the summers of 1996 and 1997. The alluvial soil received surface irrigation during both summers, and atrazine was surface applied at a rate of 1.2 kg a.i./ha. The sandy soil received surface irrigation in 1996 and sprinkler irrigation during 1997, where atrazine was applied at rate of 1.0 kg a.i./ha;The Root Zone Water Quality Model (RZWQM) is a one-dimensional model that simulates the biological, physical and chemical processes in the root zone. The pesticide component of RZWQM was calibrated and evaluated for two distinct conditions: drained soils in Iowa, and irrigated soils in Portugal. To calibrate and evaluate this model for Iowa conditions, 3 years of field data from a water quality research site at Nashua, Iowa, were used. This study showed that the range of predicted atrazine concentrations was within the same order of magnitude as observed concentrations; The data collected in Portugal was used as well to evaluate the model for alluvial and sandy soils, under Portuguese conditions. This study showed that RZWQM can be used to simulate soil water content and atrazine concentrations in the soil profile, under two different hydrologic conditions;Computer models should be easy to use, however, most of the available models are not very user friendly, making its use difficult and not appealing to the user. An interface between RZWQM and ArcView GIS was developed to simplify the data input in RZWQM, account for spatial variability in the model, and enable the user to visualize model output
Stronger than atoms: implicit and explicit attitudes towards persons with impairments and disabilities in a group of professionals in the rehabilitation area
After several decades of attitude investigation using self-report methods, pointing to more
positive explicit attitudes throughout time, more recent research in the implicit social cognition domain,
consistently revealed negative implicit attitudes regarding people with disabilities, even among
professionals working frequently with this population, and hence lending comprehensibility to the
indicators of social exclusion that, nevertheless, kept piling up.
This explicit-implicit inconsistency has been commonly interpreted both as resulting from dual
processes of attitudes, and as encompassing ambivalent attitudes towards people with disabilities,
while also suggesting a manifestation of “aversive disablism”.
Research shows that direct contact with people with disabilities is the most important correlate
of explicit attitudes, contributing to its enhancement, especially under the optimal conditions defined by
Allport; however, this is not always the case. Furthermore, direct contact with people with disabilities
has not been consistently evaluated both theoretically and methodologically, especially concerning
implicit attitudes, which constitutes an important literature caveat.
A correlational field study was conducted to explore the explicit and implicit attitudes of a group
of professionals working daily with people with disabilities towards this group, as well as the
relationship between these attitudes and direct contact, including general contact as well as perceived
amount and quality of contact with this population.
Results revealed negative implicit and positive explicit attitudes, which were also very weakly
correlated; the respective hypothesis were thus confirmed.
The predicted relationships between these attitude measures and contact variables were not
supported: contact was only weakly and not significantly associated with either attitude measures.
The results are discussed within the theoretical framework reviewed, including the limitations,
future directions and practical implications.
literatura.
redução do preconceito explícito.
Open Method of Coordination (OMC).
económico e do diagnóstico social.
This essay presents the study of the first social policy developed in Portugal exclusively for a
homeless population. This policy was elaborated as a National Strategy focused on the Social
Integration of Homeless persons (ENIPSSA). This Strategy was developed under the Open
Method of Coordination (OMC). The OMC promoted the cooperation amongst EU Member
States in the development of a political agenda for homelessness.
The research was developed following quantitative and qualitative methods. Firstly it presents
the characterization of a universe of 2456 persons (N=2456) in homeless situations, who were
followed by the Public Attendance Unit (UAPSA) in 2018. This Unit integrates the Lisbon
Intervention and Planning Nucleus for homeless persons (NPISA). The mentioned task is based
on socio-demographic, housing, economic and social diagnosis aspects. Secondly, it presents
a qualitative study, which consists of individual semi-structured interviews and focus groups
(n=31) done with persons in homeless situations (n=10), senior technical staff (n=16) and
coordinators (n=5). This study intends to analyse their oral testimonies regarding the
objectives and implications that NPISA brought to the integration of persons in a homeless
situation.
Analysing the quantitative and qualitative data, the results show that the measures and
programs created a positive impact, critically argue the importance of the National Strategy
and conclude that housing policies, when linked to integrated intervention programs, are
relevant to prevent and eradicate homelessness.N/
menos repetitiva. This study aims firstly to describe the activities in a curriculum developed stage
in the company Revigrés, Ltd.
Secondly intends to show what kind of online financial information is available
by Portuguese banks in terms of investment funds, concluding whether or not it
is possible according to the information provided to make a comparative
analysis.
Regarding the subject of the third part of this study, concerning the online
information provided by some banks in terms of investment funds offered, we
conclude that this information is not uniform either in the division of funds by
categories , the number of funds available for each entity within each category ,
the accessibility of the information, the provision of a glossary and the
documents available for download.
This reality makes it difficult for any person / institution interested in investing to
make a reliable comparison between different products from different banks.
Another obstacle to understanding/ comparison is that banks often provide a
number of documents, with repeated information, which can sometimes hinder
the understanding there of.
It was important that each bank should review the information that makes
available to customers making it simpler and less repetitive

2 ABSTRACT
In the present study, the release behaviour of 8 nutrient slow/controlled-release
fertilizers with different formulations for later use in planting pit of Eucalyptus globulus Lab.
was evaluated by a pots trial and a laboratorial test.
The pots test was carried out during 7 months in the greenhouse of the Escola Superior
Agrária de Coimbra (ESAC). Four complete randomized blocks were installed per treatment,
each containing 3 plants /clone /block. Plants’ height was monthly measured and leaves
abnormal symptoms suggesting nutritional disorder were registered. At the end of this test,
leaves were collected for chemical analysis and dry biomass of each treatment was quantified.
The laboratorial experiment was performed during 4 months in the soil laboratory of ESAC.
During this test, the release behaviour of the 8 fertilizers also studied in the pots trial was
evaluated by nutrient content quantification, measurements of the pH solution (H 2O) and assessment of electrical conductivity (mS cm -1) using distilled water as liquid phase.
The results of the pots trial indicates that the treatments A2, A3 and A4 induced higher
plant growth in height with mean values of 179.5 cm, 185.6 cm and 180.5cm, respectively, after
7 months. The A5 treatment induced the death of the plants and treatments A6, A7 and A8 lead
to nutrient deficiency symptoms exhibiting leaf chlorosis, followed by necrosis and high leaves
falling off. Nonetheless, the laboratorial experiment results demonstrated that the plant tissues
collected in these treatments at the end of pots trial had a high content of macro- and
micronutrients. Concerning the pH results, it was found that the pH solution stabilized after the 2nd week of the beginning of the laboratorial experiment. A highlight to A6 fertilizer that
exhibited a pH below 3 and plants showed leaf chlorosis. Regarding electrical conductivity of the solutions, the A5 fertilizer was lethal to plants, with 15 mS cm -1or high values after 2 weeks, while the treatments with leaf deficiency nutrient symptoms reached this value at the 4 th or 5 th
week (A6, A7 and A8).
The tests carried out in this study allowed the selection of the best fertilizers (within 8
possible fertilizers) to the planting pit of Eucalyptus globulus Lab. stands. Comparing the pots
trial with the laboratorial test results, a good correlation between chemical parameters and visual
leaf abnormal symptoms and plant growth was achieved suggesting that the laboratorial test can
be an feasible alternative to predict the fertilizer’s behaviour.
