The aim of the work. Substantiation of the need to expand the range of medicines for iodine prophylaxis in case of radiation accidents. Materials and Methods. The methods of information search, systematization, content analysis, comparison and generalization were applied. Results and Discussion. According to the analysis of the assortment of potassium iodide remedies as of December 1, 2019, it is established that 30 positions with potassium iodide in the form of 7 dosage forms have been registered in the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market. The registered drugs are intended for the treatment of thyroid diseases and the prevention of iodine deficiency and contain a dose of stable iodine of 100–200 mcg, which is not enough for the prevention of radiation damage. The necessity of development of liquid potassium iodide medicines in the form of oral solution of extemporaneous or industrial manufacture for carrying out iodine prophylaxis for the infant population and children in maternity hospitals, children's hospitals and other children's institutions is substantiated. The introduction of industrial production of oral solution with a potassium iodide concentration of 65 mg/ml (6.5 %) is proposed. Pharmacies with the right to extramural drug production in the event of receiving a radiation accident are suggested to produce 0.65 % and 0.32 % solution of potassium iodide for the prevention of radiation damage in children of all ages. Conclusions. The absence of potassium iodide preparations on the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market for the protection of newborns and children under 3 years of age from radiation damage to the thyroid gland. Taking into account international and national requirements the necessity of development of liquid oral medicines with potassium iodide of industrial production or extemporal manufacture for carrying out iodine prophylaxis for children from birth to 3 years is substantiated.

Bright ligand-activatable fluorescent protein for high-quality multicolor live-cell super-resolution microscopy

We introduce UnaG as a green-to-dark photoswitching fluorescent protein capable of high-quality super-resolution imaging with photon numbers equivalent to the brightest photoswitchable red protein. UnaG only fluoresces upon binding of a fluorogenic metabolite, bilirubin, enabling UV-free reversible photoswitching with easily controllable kinetics and low background under Epi illumination. The on- and off-switching rates are controlled by the concentration of the ligand and the excitation light intensity, respectively, where the dissolved oxygen also promotes the off-switching. The photo-oxidation reaction mechanism of bilirubin in UnaG suggests that the lack of ligand-protein covalent bond allows the oxidized ligand to detach from the protein, emptying the binding cavity for rebinding to a fresh ligand molecule. We demonstrate super-resolution single-molecule localization imaging of various subcellular structures genetically encoded with UnaG, which enables facile labeling and simultaneous multicolor imaging of live cells. UnaG has the promise of becoming a default protein for high-performance super-resolution imaging. Photoconvertible proteins occupy two color channels thereby limiting multicolour localisation microscopy applications. Here the authors present UnaG, a new green-to-dark photoswitching fluorescent protein for super-resolution imaging, whose activation is based on a noncovalent binding with bilirubin

This paper has proposed improving the methods of circular and screw conversion, to be used in the design of cutting tools and toothing that include complex mated surfaces. Underlying the improvement of both methods is the construction of a mathematical base and the development of a computer subprogram, based on it, in the MATLAB system. During the research, the original screw-type curved surface and the curvilinear generatrix axis were formed on the basis of improved methods, taking into consideration the exclusion of interference at the design stage. A comprehensive solution to this problem is important for the manufacture of products by rolling. Given this, the original instrumental surface of the cutting tool takes into consideration the pairing condition between the article's and tool's points. The result, when designing gears and cutting tools using the proposed improved methods, assigns the curvilinear surface parametrically, represented by two-dimensional arrays characterizing its coordinates. To avoid interference at the design stage, it is necessary to analyze the intersection of the axis of the curvilinear generatrix with horizontal planes. That would make it possible, when machining an article, to avoid cutting, jamming, as well as the dangerous concentration of stresses. The accuracy and reliability of a wide range of articles in machines and machinery and other kinematic pairs also improve. The proposed improvement of circular and screw conversion methods to simulate curvilinear mated surfaces that exclude interference at the design stage is of practical interest in machine buildin

Silicon-Based Optoelectronic Tongue for Label-Free and Nonspecific Recognition of Vegetable Oils

    No full text
International audienceA special electronic tongue system based on photoelectric measurements on Si-Si/SiN (X) sensitive structures is reported. The sensing approach is based on measuring of minority carrier lifetime in silicon-based substrates using microwave-detected photoconductance decay. This inexpensive and environmentally friendly combinatorial electronic sensing platform is able to create characteristic electronic fingerprints of liquids, detect, and recognize them. In particular, an application of the optoelectronic tongue for recognition of vegetable oils and their mixtures is described

Comparison of biophysical and satellite predictors for wheat yield forecasting in Ukraine

Winter wheat crop yield forecasting at national, regional and local scales is an extremely important task. This paper aims at assessing the efficiency (in terms of prediction error minimization) of satellite and biophysical model based predictors assimilation into winter wheat crop yield forecasting models at different scales (region, county and field) for one of the regions in central part of Ukraine. Vegetation index NDVI, as well as different biophysical parameters (LAI and fAPAR) derived from satellite data and WOFOST crop growth model are considered as predictors of winter wheat crop yield forecasting model. Due to very short time series of reliable statistics (since 2000) we consider single factor linear regression. It is shown that biophysical parameters (fAPAR and LAI) are more preferable to be used as predictors in crop yield forecasting regression models at each scale. Correspondent models possess much better statistical properties and are more reliable than NDVI based model. The most accurate result in current study has been obtained for LAI values derived from SPOT-VGT (at 1 km resolution) on county level. At field level, a regression model based on satellite derived LAI significantly outperforms the one based on LAI simulated with WOFOST

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) care and education might differ around Europe. Therefore, we conducted this European Variation In IBD PracticE suRvey (VIPER) to investigate potential differences between countries. Methods: This trainee-initiated survey, run through SurveyMonkey®, consisted of 47 questions inquiring basic demographics, IBD training, and clinical care. Results were compared according to gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, for which countries were divided into 2 groups (low/high income, according to the World Bank). Results: The online survey was completed by 1285 participants from 40 European countries, with a majority of specialists (65.3%) working in academic institutions (50.4%). Significant differences in IBD-specific training (55.9% vs. 38.4%), as well as availability of IBD units (58.4% vs. 39.7%) and multidisciplinary meetings (73.2% vs. 40.1%) were observed between respondees from high and low GDP countries (p<0.0001). In high GDP countries, IBD nurses are more common (85.9% vs. 36.0%), also mirrored by more nurse-led IBD clinics (40.6% vs. 13.7%; p<0.0001). IBD dieticians (33.4% vs. 16.5%) and psychologists (16.8% vs. 7.5%) are mainly present in high GDP countries (p<0.0001). In the current COVID era, telemedicine is available in 73.2% vs. 54.1% of the high/low GDP countries respectively (p<0.0001). Treat-to-target approaches are implemented everywhere (85.0%), though access to biologicals and small molecules differs significantly. Conclusion: Much variability in IBD practice exists across Europe, with marked differences between high vs. low GDP countries. Further work is required to help address some of these inequalities, aiming to improve and standardize IBD care and training across Europe
