In continuance to providing a reliable and cost-efficient road construction material that would aid the development of sustainable pavements while also eradicating agricultural wastes to protect the environment, Cassava Peel Ash (CPA) modified asphalt mixture is seen to be one of the most viable options. This study aimed to determine the suitability of Cassava Peel Ash (CPA) in hot mix asphalt for improved pavement performance. Using response surface methodology, a central composite design was employed for the mix design parameters, namely coarse aggregate (CA), fine aggregate (FA), mineral filler (MF), bitumen content (BC), and cassava peel ash (CPA). CPA was used as a partial replacement for filler and varied between 0% and 20%. The BC varied between 4% and 8%, the MF varied between 15% and 20%, the FA varied between 10% and 14%, and the CA varied between 46% and 52%. The interactive effect between the mix design parameters on the volumetric properties of the asphalt mixtures was evaluated. The results obtained showed the Marshall stability, flow, density, volume of the void, and void in mineral aggregates of the asphalt mixtures at 1.8037–8.045 kN, 2.7-8.22 mm, 2.0426–2.3909%, 1.094–7.966% and 55.5105–93.1393% respectively. These results indicate that the interaction of CA, FA, MF, BC, and CPA influences the volumetric properties of asphalt mixtures. From the RSM analysis, a prediction model and an optimal condition of 4.018% asphalt content, 20% cassava peel ash, 46% coarse aggregate, 10% fine aggregate, and 15% mineral filler were achieved for the asphalt mixtures. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2022-08-10-07 Full Text: PD

The paper’s originality lies in its position that the library management should not compromise the perception and satisfaction of the library professional about KOHA software but should make intensive improvement on the installation of KOHA software and also intensify efforts to educate staff and users of the library on effective use of library software. Workshops and seminars attendance be made mandatory for the librarians and technical staff of the Library on the appropriate selection of library software in order to improve the ease of use and user friendliness of KOHA software

Audit of hysterectomies in a group of private hospitals in Kaduna City, northern Nigeria

Background: Hysterectomy is a major surgical intervention that could lead to significant degradation of the woman if performed in unsafe institutions. Objective: To determine the indications for hysterectomy, associated demographic factors, surgical types and associated morbidity and mortality. We also seek to promote the culture of self- auditing in clinical work in Kaduna. Study Design, Setting and Subjects: A retrospective review of women in who record st of operation was available in some Private hospitals ,in Kaduna, from January 31 , 1996 to June30, 2000. Result: There was generally poor data keeping in most of the hospitals. There were 47recorded hysterectomies; 42(89.39%) were elective and 5(10.63%) emergency. Forty two (89.36%) were abdominal and 5(10.63%) vaginal; Obstetric indications accounted for only 4.25% of the operations. Four (8.51%) of the operations were performed in the nulliparae. Indications for hysterectomy included, Uterine fibroids 22(46.80%), DUB 7(14.89%), Genital prolapse 4(8.51%), Complications of induced abortions 3(6.38%). Consultant grade Obstetricians performed 42(89.36%) of the operations. Midline abdominal incision was the choice of access in 24(57.14%) of the operations. Only in 23(48.93%) was histological examination of specimens performed. About 30% of the women had blood transfusion and abdominal wound sepsis, primary post operation haemorrhage and fever occurred in 2.12% each. No death was associated with the operation. Conclusion: The indications for hysterectomy are varied and the operation appears to be safe in private hospitals in Kaduna. Quality assurance could be improved by simple supply of operation registers to hospitals. Understanding university community’s mental health needs and the determinants of wellbeing sequala: a qualitative study

Mental health among university students is on the increase every day, therefore this study investigates mental health needs and determinants of psychological well-being of the university community. This explanatory qualitative research design used a purposive sampling technique to sample 13-participant (with age-ranged between 21 to 57years; age mean=30.7years) at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. Data was gathered using a key informant interview. Themes emerged from the data analysis, and excerpts from the participant interviews were used to illustrate the themes. Following data analysis, the research study found that the age of adolescents with emotional dysregulation, poor lecturers/students relationships, study life imbalance, and inaccessibility to counseling services were shown as the determinants of mental health among university students. Results revealed that there is a need for internet-based mental health services with substance abuse screening and audio/visual display facilities. Furthermore, empowerment of counseling staff, students, and the university community with periodic workshops/seminars on mental health awareness and integration of mental health modules into the General Studies (GNS) curriculum was found as the needs of the university community to boost their mental healthiness. We conclude that adolescence age, poor lecturer-student relationships, study life imbalance, and inaccessible counseling services are determinants of psychological distress. Therefore, insightful and rebranded interventions like e-mental health services and awareness programs are required to restore psychological wellbeing on the university campus
