Bilayer graphene under pressure: Electron-hole Symmetry Breaking, Valley Hall Effect, and Landau Levels
The electronic structure of bilayer graphene under pressure develops very
interesting features with an enhancement of the trigonal warping and a
splitting of the parabolic touching bands at the K point of the reciprocal
space into four Dirac cones, one at K and three along the T symmetry lines. As
pressure is increased, these cones separate in reciprocal space and in energy,
breaking the electron-hole symmetry. Due to their energy separation, their
opposite Berry curvature can be observed in valley Hall effect experiments and
in the structure of the Landau levels. Based on the electronic structure
obtained by Density Functional Theory, we develop a low energy Hamiltonian that
describes the effects of pressure on measurable quantities such as the Hall
conductivity and the Landau levels of the system.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figure
Professor Buenaventura Delgado Bujalance. Looks and creative teaching
The morphodynamic responses of artificial embayed beaches to storm events
The morphological changes caused by storm events in two Barcelona beaches
were recorded using video monitoring techniques during the period 2001–2006.
Changes in shoreline position and configuration and submerged bar position
and shape were analyzed during the 25 major storm events that occurred
during the study period. Beach responses to storms were grouped into three
categories: shoreline advance or retreat (including rotation), sandbar
migration and/or configuration change (linear or crescentic shape) and
formation of megacusps. This work provides examples of the differential
adaptation of both beaches to the same storm and of some unexpected
morphological responses of both beaches. The response of the beach to storm
events is not straightforward because wave conditions are not the only
relevant parameter to be considered. In particular, in such embayed beaches
it is crucial to take into account their specific morphodynamic
configuration prior to the storm
Collaborative programmes are an appropriate tool for Environmental Education. In this work we show the foundations of the didactic model, that we have named MACELEA and which has served for the implementation of a virtual collaborative program to promote the curricular innovation: Ecourban. Here we describe the most relevant dimensions of its design and development, so as the validity criteria and components of virtual innovation: contextual, pedagogical-didactic, epistemological, multimedia, cognitive and communicative
Time variation of Kepler transits induced by stellar spots - a way to distinguish between prograde and retrograde motion. II. Application to KOIs
Mazeh, Holczer, and Shporer (2015) have presented an approach that can, in
principle, use the derived transit timing variation (TTV) of some transiting
planets observed by the mission to distinguish between prograde and
retrograde motion of their orbits with respect to their parent stars' rotation.
The approach utilizes TTVs induced by spot-crossing events that occur when the
planet moves across a spot on the stellar surface, looking for a correlation
between the derived TTVs and the stellar brightness derivatives at the
corresponding transits. This can work even in data that cannot temporally
resolve the spot-crossing events themselves. Here we apply this approach to the
KOIs, identifying nine systems where the photometric spot modulation
is large enough and the transit timing accurate enough to allow detection of a
TTV-brightness-derivatives correlation. Of those systems five show highly
significant prograde motion (Kepler-17b, Kepler-71b, KOI-883.01, KOI-895.01,
and KOI-1074.01), while no system displays retrograde motion, consistent with
the suggestion that planets orbiting cool stars have prograde motion. All five
systems have impact parameter , and all systems
within that impact parameter range show significant correlation, except
HAT-P-11b where the lack of a correlation follows its large stellar obliquity.
Our search suffers from an observational bias against detection of high impact
parameter cases, and the detected sample is extremely small. Nevertheless, our
findings may suggest that stellar spots, or at least the larger ones, tend to
be located at a low stellar latitude, but not along the stellar equator,
similar to the Sun.Comment: V2: accepted to Ap
The correct reading of the landscape and other complex realities- -which cross is objective elements with emotions and affections – requires a method of deciphering and interpretation, combining analytical with comprehensive deductions in the framework of an interdisciplinary dialogue. A painter, a historian, a geographer and a novelist - some researchers from Doñana, from their respective disciplines - we have decided to form a team that, based on a method of reading the landscape (Ojeda, 2013), dares to Rehearse the shared reading of a significant landscape of this National Park: The original Retuerta. This dialogue of a humanistic disciplines before a landscape little known by the public to be located in the Biological Reserve of Doñana, will lead to new interpretations, creatives and original and surprising stories of Retuerta, which will be new links to the chain his hermeneutic understanding and granting him a bonus of appreciation and patrimonial valuation

Spanish validation of the revised depression attitude questionnaire (R-daq)
Purpose: The aim of the study was to develop and validate a Spanish version of the Revised Depression Attitude Questionnaire (R-DAQ). Methods: The R-DAQ was used as a baseline for the study. It was translated and tested to ensure the instrument was appropriate for the target population. 537 Ecuadorian healthcare professionals completed the revised Spanish version of the R-DAQ (SR-DAQ). Statistical and exploratory factor analyses were performed to examine construct validity, internal consistency, readability and floor and ceiling effects. Results: Three factors were obtained: “Professional confidence in depression care”; “Therapeutic optimism about depression”; and “Generalist perspective about depression occurrence, recognition, and management”. The internal consistency of the SR-DAQ was determined by means of Cronbach’s α coefficient, with values ranging between 0.61–0.8. The correlations with the English version reflected adequate validity. The model explained 39% of the variance. Subsequent analysis with a sample restricted to those who had received training in depression produced a model that explained 42% of the variance. Conclusion: The SR-DAQ meets the psychometric requirements for measuring depression attitude in a Spanish-speaking population and shows adequate internal consistency and validity

Peer Reviewe
The stream of water. Humanistic dialogue about the landscapes of the Marismas del Guadalquivir
The humanistic and multi-disciplinary dialogue is the tool that allows us to assay shared interpretations of three landscapes of the Marismas del Guadalquivir. These landscapes are consider as; thesis (Original Lanscape of the Retuerta, shore of the Doñana National Park), antithesis (Colonial and rice landscape of Isla Mayor), and synthesis (Symbolic landscape of La Madre–El Rocío–) of the territorial and landscape configuration of that remarkable space. Fascinated with the marshlands environments and landscapes where we were born, from where we escaped to grow up but, the ones we constantly appeal; we assume the hermeneutics conviction that any landscape is under a continually stage of interpretation to which you have to access in order to fully understand its meaning and, to be able to add more links to its interpretive chain. The synergy of our conviction will generate new interpretations, which will drive us to read, understand and seek for new stories about our old landscapes
