    Traversable Wormholes Construction in 2+1 Dimensions

    We study traversable Lorentzian wormholes in the three-dimensional low energy string theory by adding some matter source involving a dilaton field. It will be shown that there are two-different types of wormhole solutions such as BTZ and black string wormholes depending on the dilaton backgrounds, respectively.     The Asymptotic distribution of circles in the orbits of Kleinian groups

    Let P be a locally finite circle packing in the plane invariant under a non-elementary Kleinian group Gamma and with finitely many Gamma-orbits. When Gamma is geometrically finite, we construct an explicit Borel measure on the plane which describes the asymptotic distribution of small circles in P, assuming that either the critical exponent of Gamma is strictly bigger than 1 or P does not contain an infinite bouquet of tangent circles glued at a parabolic fixed point of Gamma. Our construction also works for P invariant under a geometrically infinite group Gamma, provided Gamma admits a finite Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure and the Gamma-skinning size of P is finite.     Automated detection of greenhouse structures using cascade mask R-CNN

    Automated detection of the content of images remains a challenging problem in artificial intelligence. Hence, continuous manual monitoring of restricted development zones is critical to maintaining territorial integrity and national security. In this regard, local governments of the Republic of Korea conduct four periodic inspections per year to preserve national territories from illegal encroachments and unauthorized developments in restricted zones. The considerable expense makes responding to illegal developments difficult for local governments. To address this challenge, we propose a deep-learning-based Cascade Mask region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) algorithm designed to perform automated detection of greenhouses in aerial photographs for efficient and continuous monitoring of restricted development zones in the Republic of Korea. Our proposed model is regional-based because it was optimized for the Republic of Korea via transfer learning and hyperparameter tuning, which improved the efficiency of the automated detection of greenhouse facilities. The experimental results demonstrated that the mAP value of the proposed Cascade Mask R-CNN model was 83.6, which was 12.83 higher than baseline mask R-CNN, and 0.9 higher than Mask R-CNN with hyperparameter tuning and transfer learning considered. Similarly, the F1-score of the proposed Cascade Mask R-CNN model was 62.07, which outperformed those of the baseline mask R-CNN and the Mask R-CNN with hyperparameter tuning and transfer learning considered (i.e., the F1-score 52.33 and 59.13, respectively). The proposed improved Cascade Mask R-CNN model is expected to facilitate efficient and continuous monitoring of restricted development zones through routine screening procedures. Moreover, this work provides a baseline for developing an integrated management system for national-scale land-use planning and development infrastructure by synergizing geographical information systems, remote sensing, and deep learning models

    Stresses in cement mantles of hip replacements: effect of femoral implant sizes, body mass index and bone quality

    The effects of femoral prosthetic heads of diameters 22 and 28 mm were investigated on the stability of reconstructed hemi-pelves with cement mantles of thicknesses 1-4 mm and different bone qualities. Materialise medical imaging package and I-Deas finite element (FE) software were used to create accurate geometry of a hemi-pelvis from CT-scan images. Our FE results show an increase in cement mantle stresses associated with the larger femoral head. When a 22 mm femoral head is used on acetabulae of diameters 56 mm and above, the probability of survivorship can be increased by creating a cement mantle of at least 1 mm thick. However, when a 28 mm femoral head is used, a cement mantle thickness of at least 4 mm is needed. Poor bone quality resulted in an average 45% increase in the tensile stresses of the cement mantles, indicating resulting poor survivorship rate

    Analysis of the educational needs of rural girls in Lesotho and Zimbabwe suggests a number of shortcomings in the current form of secondary education, and ways in which it might be modified so as to serve this sizeable group of students better. Several of the shortcomings, notably in relation to curricular irrelevance and excessive focus on examinations, have long been recognised, including by politicians. Yet political pronouncements are seldom translated into policy, and even where policy is formulated, reforms are seldom implemented in schools. This paper makes use of interviews with educational decision-makers in the two southern African countries and a range of documentary sources to explore why, despite the considerable differences between the two contexts, much needed educational reforms have been implemented in neither

    We measure the mass of the tau lepton to be 1775.1+-1.6(stat)+-1.0(syst.) MeV using tau pairs from Z0 decays. To test CPT invariance we compare the masses of the positively and negatively charged tau leptons.     Search for lepton-flavor violation at HERA

    A search for lepton-flavor-violating interactions epμXe p \to \mu X and epτXe p\to \tau X has been performed with the ZEUS detector using the entire HERA I data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 130 pb^{-1}. The data were taken at center-of-mass energies, s\sqrt{s}, of 300 and 318 GeV. No evidence of lepton-flavor violation was found, and constraints were derived on leptoquarks (LQs) that could mediate such interactions. For LQ masses below s\sqrt{s}, limits were set on λeq1βq\lambda_{eq_1} \sqrt{\beta_{\ell q}}, where λeq1\lambda_{eq_1} is the coupling of the LQ to an electron and a first-generation quark q1q_1, and βq\beta_{\ell q} is the branching ratio of the LQ to the final-state lepton \ell (μ\mu or τ\tau) and a quark qq. For LQ masses much larger than s\sqrt{s}, limits were set on the four-fermion interaction term λeqαλqβ/MLQ2\lambda_{e q_\alpha} \lambda_{\ell q_\beta} / M_{\mathrm{LQ}}^2 for LQs that couple to an electron and a quark qαq_\alpha and to a lepton \ell and a quark qβq_\beta, where α\alpha and β\beta are quark generation indices. Some of the limits are also applicable to lepton-flavor-violating processes mediated by squarks in RR-Parity-violating supersymmetric models. In some cases, especially when a higher-generation quark is involved and for the process epτXe p\to \tau X , the ZEUS limits are the most stringent to date.Comment: 37 pages, 10 figures, Accepted by EPJC.
