    Structure and properties of nanoparticles formed under conditions of wire electrical explosion were studied. It was shown that the state of WEE power particles can be characterized as a metastable state.     Negative modes in the four-dimensional stringy wormholes

    We study the Giddings-Strominger wormholes in string theories. We found negative modes among O(4)-symmetric fluctuations about the non-singular wormhole background. Hence the stringy wormhole contribution to the euclidean functional integral is purely imaginary. This means that the stringy wormhole is a bounce (not an instanton) and describes the nucleation and growth of wormholes in the Minkowski spacetime.Comment: 12 pages 2 figures, RevTe

    Duality between N=5 and N=6 Chern-Simons matter theory

    We provide evidences for the duality between N=6{\cal N}=6 U(M)4×U(N)4U(M)_{4} \times U(N)_{-4} Chern-Simons matter theory and N=5{\cal N}=5 O(M^)2×USp(2N^)1O(\hat{M})_{2} \times USp(2\hat{N})_{-1} theory for a suitable M^,N^\hat{M},\hat{N} by working out the superconformal index, which shows perfect matching. For N=5{\cal N}=5 theories, we show that supersymmetry is enhanced to N=6{\cal N}=6 by explicitly constructing monopole operators filling in SO(6)RSO(6)_R RR-currents. Finally we work out the large NN index of O(2N)2k×USp(2N)kO(2N)_{2k} \times USp(2N)_{-k} and show that it exactly matches with the gravity index on AdS4×S7/DkAdS_4 \times S^7/D_k, which further provides additional evidence for the duality between the N=5{\cal N}=5 and N=6{\cal N}=6 theory for k=1k=1Comment: 15 pages; references adde

    We show that Schnabl's tachyon vacuum solution is an exact solution of the equation of motion of Witten's open bosonic string field theory in the background of constant antisymmetric two-form field. The action computed at the vacuum solution is given by the Dirac-Born-Infeld factor multiplied to that without the antisymmetric tensor field.Comment: 8 page

    Carboxypeptidase O is a Lipid Droplet-associated Enzyme Able to Cleave both Acidic and Polar C-terminal Amino Acids

    Carboxypeptidase O (CPO) is a member of the M14 family of metallocarboxypeptidases with a preference for the cleavage of C-terminal acidic amino acids. CPO is largely expressed in the small intestine, although it has been detected in other tissues such as the brain and ovaries. CPO does not contain a prodomain, nor is it strongly regulated by pH, and hence appears to exist as a constitutively active enzyme. The goal of this study was to investigate the intracellular distribution and activity of CPO in order to predict physiological substrates and function. The distribution of CPO, when expressed in MDCK cells, was analyzed by immunofluorescence microscopy. Soon after addition of nutrient-rich media, CPO was found to associate with lipid droplets, causing an increase in lipid droplet quantity. As media became depleted, CPO moved to a broader ER distribution, no longer impacting lipid droplet numbers. Membrane cholesterol levels played a role in the distribution and in vitro enzymatic activity of CPO, with cholesterol enrichment leading to decreased lipid droplet association and enzymatic activity. The ability of CPO to cleave C-terminal amino acids within the early secretory pathway (in vivo) was examined using Gaussia luciferase as a substrate, C-terminally tagged with variants of an ER retention signal. While no effect of cholesterol was observed, these data show that CPO does function as an active enzyme within the ER where it removes C-terminal glutamates and aspartates, as well as a number of polar amino acids

    Arctic troposphere warming Driven by external radiative forcing and modulated by the Pacific and Atlantic

    During the past decades, the Arctic has experienced significant tropospheric warming, with varying decadal warming rates. However, the relative contributions from potential drivers and modulators of the warming are yet to be further quantified. Here, we utilize a unique set of multi-model large-ensemble atmospheric simulations to isolate the respective contributions from the combined external radiative forcing (ERF-AL), interdecadal Pacific variability (IPV), Atlantic multidecadal variability (AMV), and Arctic sea-ice concentration changes (ASIC) to the warming during 1979–2013. In this study, the ERF-AL impacts are the ERF impacts directly on the atmosphere and land surface, excluding the indirect effects through SST and SIC feedback. The ERF-AL is the primary driver of the April–September tropospheric warming during 1979–2013, and its warming effects vary at decadal time scales. The IPV and AMV intensify the warming during their transitioning periods to positive phases and dampen the warming during their transitioning periods to negative phases. The IPV impacts are prominent in winter and spring and are stronger than AMV impacts on 1979–2013 temperature trends. The warming impacts of ASIC are generally restricted to below 700 hPa and are strongest in autumn and winter. The combined effects of these factors reproduce the observed accelerated and step-down Arctic warming in different decades, but the intensities of the reproduced decadal variations are generally weaker than in the observed. © 2022.     Enhanced Supersymmetry of Nonrelativistic ABJM Theory

    We study the supersymmetry enhancement of nonrelativistic limits of the ABJM theory for Chern-Simons level k=1,2k=1,2. The special attention is paid to the nonrelativistic limit (known as `PAAP' case) containing both particles and antiparticles. Using supersymmetry transformations generated by the monopole operators, we find additional 2 kinematical, 2 dynamical, and 2 conformal supercharges for this case. Combining with the original 8 kinematical supercharges, the total number of supercharges becomes maximal: 14 supercharges, like in the well-known PPPP limit. We obtain the corresponding super Schr\"odinger algebra which appears to be isomorphic to the one of the PPPP case. We also discuss the role of monopole operators in supersymmetry enhancement and partial breaking of supersymmetry in nonrelativistic limit of the ABJM theory.Comment: 22 pages, references added, version to appear in JHE

    D-brane orbiting NS5-branes

    We study real time dynamics of a Dp-brane orbiting a stack of NS5-branes. It is generally known that a BPS D-brane moving in the vicinity of NS5-branes becomes unstable due to the presence of tachyonic degree of freedom induced on the D-brane. Indeed, the D-brane necessarily falls into the fivebranes due to gravitational attraction and eventually collapses into a pressureless fluid. Such a decay of the D-brane is known to be closely related to the rolling tachyon problem. In this paper we show that in special cases the decay of D-brane caused by gravitational attraction can be avoided. Namely for certain values of energy and angular momentum the D-brane orbits around the fivebranes, maintaining certain distance from the fivebranes all the time, and the process of tachyon condensation is suppressed. We show that the tachyonic degree of freedom induced on such a D-brane really disappears and the brane returns to a stable D-brane.Comment: 12 pages, latex, added referenc
