We analyse the importance of the role of the media in the development of the motor competence in girls and their motivation towards sports. The media give us an androcentric vision of the sporting event. This perspective transmits to the female students the message that they are not (and they will not be) included in the field of high-level sport (field in which they can find a way to develop their motor competence). In fact, this situation is considered as one of the reasons that influences on the fact that, in most of the cases, the female students are who, in contrast to the male students, seem to practice sport mainly due to aesthetics and/or health, but not due to competition or sports development at a certain level. In addition, they appear to have much more negative self-esteem and physical self-concept

Cassava has become more practical in recent years because of its resistance to drought, ease of cultivation with little effort required, and adaptability to a wide range of soil. With these numerous positive attributes, the cassava crop has several undesirable characteristics. The main consequence of this, it might result in poor cassava quality and contributes to a small market share, which can negatively impact the cassava sector resulting in finding out the degree of cassava quality attributes as parameters for consumer preference among various levels of the food chain. This study needs to evaluate the consumption preference of Manihot esculenta Crantz products among rural households. This study determined the general preference of the respondents for cassava. Most respondents care less about the shape of the cassava, whether it is round, oval, or truncated, as well as the flesh color, whether white flesh, yellow flesh, and cream orange flesh. Respondents were less concerned about skin color as much. The majority preferred the variety that have a nutty and mid-earthy taste, a green and earthy aroma, and a mealy texture. &nbsp

Background: We analyzed a series of patients with cardiac masses who were studied using multiple imaging modalities, including echocardiography (ECHO), CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance imaging (RNM) and PET/CT Aim: to determine the usefulness of multi-modality imaging in determining the etiology and location of cardiac masses initially detected by ECHO Methods: 37 patients selected by the presence of a cardiac mass detected by ECHO were submitted to different modalities of cardiac imaging in order to determine the nature, location and etiology of the mass Results: 14 (39%) masses were tumors confirmed by biopsy; 11 (30%) fulfilled criteria to diagnose a thrombus; 1 patient (2.8%) had an infectious cardiac mass, another calcification of the mitral an-nulus, another turned out to be a normal variant and only in one patient (2.8%) a diagnosis was not possible. Six patients had extra cardiac masses. ECHO plus RNM were sufficient to characterize location and histologic type in 28 patients (76%). Seven cases (19%) required ECHO plus CT scan. ECHO plus CT scan plus RNM plus PET/CT was required in 1 patient to establish mitotic activity. ECHO plus RNM plus PT/CT was necessary to determine location, histologic type, presence of calcium and infectious activity Conclusion: Multimodality imaging allowed to determine etiology and location of cardiac masses in 97 % of cases. ECHO plus NMR was the combination most frequently used. CT scan was particularly useful to identify calcification and fat deposits and PET/CT to identify increased metabolic activity, either infection or mitotic activity.http://www.scielo.cl/scielo.php?pid=S0718-85602016000100001&script=sci_abstract&tlng=e

Scale Model Shake Table Testing of Seismic Earth Pressures in Soft Clay

    Get PDF
There is much uncertainty in seismic earth pressures for basement wall design and retaining wall design in clay soil. The research presented herein uses a scale model testing platform on a 1g shake table to measure the distribution and magnitude of seismic earth pressures for the prototype soil conditions of San Francisco Young Bay Mud (YBM). Similitude scaling of the dynamic soil properties, the wall dimensions, and the input time histories (among other variables) affords accurate modeling of the prototype scale wall. For basement conditions, inertial soil structure interaction (SSI) effects are included in the experiments. Care is taken to properly mimic static lateral stress conditions of the walls to achieve active or at-rest conditions for the respective wall designs prior to shaking. Results for a wall of prototype 3m height experiencing a large ground motion is shown and compared to current earth pressure design recommendations

Supply chain management which involves managing the flow of material andinformation from sources to customers has been one of the most challenging issuesfacing both the academicians and the practitioners for years. Inventory control is acrucial part of tactical decision level affecting the performance of supply chain indistribution and production. The main focus of this study is to compare theperformance of different multi-objective metaheuristic techniques to optimizeinventory parameters for single-product continuous review stochastic inventorysystem with transportation costs. The simulation-based optimization method is usedto solve the problem by combining the simulation model and metaheuristicalgorithms in order to determine the inventory policy taking into account twoconflicting objectives: customer service level and total inventory cost. We build adiscrete event simulation model to evaluate the objective function of the problem. The Metaheuristic techniques such as the genetic algorithm and particle swarmoptimization are applied to search the solution space. The results obtained by allthese proposed techniques are compared and the effectiveness of each technique hasbeen illustrated

What makes them thrive? Protective factors for the academic success of Roma university students: A case study.

The situation of oppression and discrimination of Roma people is a fact that can be observed in many research studies. This is in conjunction with segregation and unequal educational conditions for Roma students, which do not seem to improve despite economic investment and specific intervention programmes. We understand that these situations are ever-present and structural in our society and that they segregate and exclude and become cultural, social and educational barriers for Roma students to successfully continue their academic careers until they reach university. The aim of this study was to understand the views of Roma students at a university in the south of Spain regarding the factors that had enabled them to overcome the initial difficulties they had faced during primary and secondary education, and which had acted as protective factors against educational exclusion. We have included quantitative data through the use of questionnaires, and qualitative data through the use of interviews. The results suggest that these factors are diverse, intersecting and are not mutually exclusive. Family and teacher support and the presence of a non-segregated environment, as well as personal motivation and self-awareness, are key factors. A relevant finding has been the flexibility of cultural reference models that have allowed them to navigate the exclusionary structures of the school.Universidad de Cádi

    Get PDF
The digital revolution is currently shaking every sector of the industry especially the supply chain and procurement industry. Concepts like “IoTâ€, “Industry 4.0†and “Procurement 4.0†are floating all around which is making the industry more competitive. The digital revolution is compelling the businesses to work in collaboration to achieve their targets because it is getting almost impossible for companies to survive independently, while on the other hand these collaboration lead to the complexities of the processes which can result in-transparencies in the process flows and spend management. A proper, clear and transparent spend management is the key to the success of any organization and an uncontrolled, unclear spend management can lead the companies to bankruptcies. The purpose of this research paper is to show how strategic procurement perform their spend management with conventional methods? and how the digitization and automation concepts can be used to improve the whole spend management process and how to mitigate the risks associated with spend management? Emerging literature, case studies, blogs, expert opinions, market knowledge, practical business experiences and citations are used to fulfill this task
