Are Guidelines Needed for the Diagnosis and Management of Incipient Alzheimer's Disease and Mild Cognitive Impairment?

    Get PDF
Current research is aiming to push the boundaries of the point at which a diagnosis of Alzheimer Disease (AD) can be made. Clinical syndromes such as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and various clinical and biological markers of AD may help to identify people in the early stage of AD, before a full dementia syndrome is present. In the first part of this paper, we discuss whether MCI represents incipient AD, and examine some of the methods currently used in research to identify AD patients in the preclinical phase. In the second part, we discuss whether specific guidelines are needed for the diagnosis and management of MCI and incipient AD, and consider the potential impact of this on clinical practice and public health from the perspective of patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers

Mitochondrial caseinolytic protease p: A possible novel prognostic marker and therapeutic target in cancer

    Get PDF
Caseinolytic protease P (ClpP) is a mitochondrial serine protease. In mammalian cells, the heterodimerization of ClpP and its AAA+ ClpX chaperone results in a complex called ClpXP, which has a relevant role in protein homeostasis and in maintaining mitochondrial functionality through the degradation of mitochondrial misfolded or damaged proteins. Recent studies demonstrate that ClpP is upregulated in primary and metastatic human tumors, supports tumor cell proliferation, and its overexpression desensitizes cells to cisplatin. Interestingly, small modulators of ClpP activity, both activators and inhibitors, are able to impair oxidative phosphorylation in cancer cells and to induce apoptosis. This review provides an overview of the role of ClpP in regulating mitochondrial functionality, in supporting tumor cell proliferation and cisplatin resistance; finally, we discuss whether this protease could represent a new prognostic marker and therapeutic target for the treatment of cancer

The Strategic Transfer of Intangible Assets via Twitter by Spanish Listed Companies in Times of Crisis

    Get PDF
In times of crisis such as the one we have experienced due to COVID-19, listed companies have enhanced the communication of their intangible assets. Thus, the aim of this research is to study how listed companies in Spain have used one of the most popular social channels, such as Twitter, to transfer their intangible assets to their stakeholders. To this end, the communication of IBEX35 companies in Spain with a verified corporate profile on Twitter has been studied during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the main results, it should be noted that the transfer of intangible assets has been based on a strategy where providing added value was the connecting axis of the communication actions implemented and the content provided on Twitter. Hence, this work demonstrates that companies can provide added value in social networks to generate trust, build long-term relationships and strengthen their competitive advantage

AUTOMATIC POINT CLOUD SEGMENTATION FOR THE DETECTION OF ALTERATIONS ON HISTORICAL BUILDINGS THROUGH AN UNSUPERVISED AND CLUSTERING-BASED MACHINE LEARNING APPROACH

Abstract. The article describes an innovative procedure for the three-dimensional analysis of decay morphologies of ancient buildings, through the application of machine learning methods for the automatic segmentation of point clouds. In the field of Cultural Heritage conservation, photogrammetric data can be exploited, for diagnostic and monitoring support, to recognize different typologies of alterations visible on the masonry surface, starting from colour information. Actually, certain stone and plaster surface pathologies (biological patina, biological colonization, chromatic alterations, spots,…) are typically characterized by chromatic variations. To this purpose, colour-based segmentation with hierarchical clustering has been implemented on colour data of point clouds, considered in the HSV colour-space. In addition, geometry-based segmentation of 3D reconstructions has been performed, in order to identify the main architectural elements (walls, vaults), and to associate them to the detected defects. The proposed workflow has been applied to some ancient buildings' environments, chosen because of their irregularity both in geometrical and colorimetric characteristics

La melodía: movimiento, direccionalidad y contorno

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
Tis work is part of the extension project: “Cultural diversity and body. Democratizing the teaching of bodily practices”. Here we propose to think about the relationship between extension and education, more precisely with the education of the body. But this relationship we think abandons that assistance idea between extension and education. Many times a direct relationship between education and assistance coincides with the extension, producing a logic extension based on educational assistance. It is said, from this idea, that the fundamental work is the help on the educational process of individuals, the demands understood in terms of a need are diagnosed and the project is put together: extension-education-assistance. Our proposal is incompatible with that idea, since we understand that the extension and education of the body do not have to be transformed into a welfare practice. Democratizando a transmição do conhecimento de praticas corporais”.

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
In the following pages we reflect on an experience we called “Danced Interviews”. As members of the GESEC (IIGG, UBA) we have been working on the understanding of social sensibilities and their configurations in our societies. In this context, we study the possibilities to analyze the body in movement, both as an expressive path and as an information supplier on social reality. Then, we feature our first steps on this project, depicting the questions that have arisen so far, along with some preliminary answers regarding its challenges and potentialities.Fil: D'hers, Victoria. In the practical management of allergic rhinitis (AR), pharmacists are usually the first-line contact, also because some medications are available as over the counter. Therefore, pharmacists may represent an important resource, in mediating the interaction between patients and physicians. We evaluated the clinical/demographic characteristics of patients with respiratory allergies who consulted their pharmacists as first-line contact. A patient-oriented questionnaire was developed by a scientific committee including pharmacists, GPs, allergists, pulmonologists and ENT specialists
