Discourse Markers and Modal Expressions in Speakers with and without Asperger Syndrome: A Pragmatic-Perceptive Approach

    Get PDF
From a theoretical point of view, this paper offers a new framework for the analysis of discourse markers: a pragmatic-perceptive model that emphasizes the point of the communication process in which such particles become more relevant. Furthermore, this approach tries to give an account of the modal expressions (attenuators and intensifiers) that speakers use in oral speech. The quotients of absolute and relative frequency with regard to the use of textual, interactive and enunciative markers - focused on the message, the addressee and the addresser respectively - are compared in two samples of 20 subjects with typical development and other 20 with Asperger syndrome. The general results of this research suggest that these latter speakers display a suitable command of textual markers, whereas they overexploit the enunciative ones in conversation

Genome scale metabolic modeling reveals the metabolic potential of three Type II methanotrophs of the genus Methylocystis

Producción CientíficaGenome Scale Metabolic Models (GSMMs) of the recently sequenced Methylocystis hirsuta and two other methanotrophs from the genus Methylocystis have been reconstructed. These organisms are Type II methanotrophs with the ability of accumulating Polyhydroxyalkanoates under nutrient limiting conditions. For the first time, GSMMs have been reconstructed for Type II methanotrophs. These models, combined with experimental biomass and PHB yields of Methylocystis hirsuta, allowed elucidating the methane oxidation mechanism by the enzyme pMMO (particulate methane monooxygenase) in these organisms. In contrast to Type I methanotrophs, which use the “direct coupling mechanism”, Type II methanotrophs appear to use the so called “redox arm mechanism”. The utilization of the “redox arm mechanism”, which involves the coupling between methane oxidation and complex I of the respiratory chain, was confirmed by inhibition of complex I with catechol. Utilization of the “redox arm” mechanism leads to lower biomass yields on methane compared to Type I methanotrophs. However, the ability of Type II methanotrophs to redirect high metabolic carbon fluxes towards acetoacetyl-CoA under nitrogen limiting conditions makes these organisms promising platforms for metabolic engineering.Marie Curie grant H2020-MSCA-IF-2016 CH4BioVal (GA nº 750126).Junta de Castilla y León (Ref. Cartografiar el acontecimiento. Paisajes eventuales

This paper aims to make an approach to the study of landscape from its dual condition in space and time. It proposes a return to the geography and defense as a study space while maintaining a temporal reading, eventually, the landscape. The research focuses on the strategies of domination and plotted as the face space. This has been studied for two case studies: the Battle of Berlin during the Second World War and the Salton lake in Californi

Missing architecture lights up the celebration of Mistery. Th e church of the benedictinemonastery, Las Condes. Interview with architect Martin Correa, OSB.

It is a paradigmatic work in Latin American architecture, andalso the first modern building declared National Monument in Chile (1981). It has recently been awarded “Obra Bicentenario” prize (2009). Here are presented the main ideas, from the point of view of one of its authors, that leaded this work as a model for architectural comprehension of contemporary liturgy requirements

Au pair mobility, originally conceived as a form of cultural exchange, conceals forms of paid work and without a clear legal basis, developed mainly by young women with higher education. This program has become a way for middle-class families that can outsource housework, getting cheap and very flexible care work. First, we describe how in a context of increasing of the vital precariousness, the dominant discourses on human capital and cosmopolitanism prescribe as desirable the mobility in order to increase the employability. Second, by analyzing in-depth interviews we approach to the experiences and representations of women that were employed as au pairs. The results highlight the use of this program to address the absence of labour expectations. This use forced by the situation outlined a scenario that intensifies the pressure felt by the au pairs. Everyday relationships with the families favour the emergence and maintenance of forms of exploitation, hidden under the guise of family relations, where the exchanges are guided by the logic of reciprocity and emotional rewards
