El caso de Memento: una memoria nietzscheana en el cine postmoderno

En el siguiente artículo realizaré un análisis de las relaciones entre la filosofía de la historia de Nietzsche y el papel que se otorga a la memoria en el cine posmoderno, prestando especial atención a la película Memento (Christopher Nolan, 2000). Para ello me basaré principalmente en la II Intempestiva Sobre la utilidad y el perjuicio de la historia para la vida del pensador alemán, aunque recurriré también a otros textos como Sobre verdad y mentira en sentido extramoral. Bajo este marco analizaré la relación de Lenny, el protagonista del film, con su pasado, recordado sólo parcialmente y constantemente remodelado de forma consciente por el propio sujeto para afrontar su vida en el presente del único modo que le puede convertir en un superviviente a su desgraciada situación.The following article will analyze the relationship between the Nietzsche's philosophy of history and the role given to memory in postmodern cinema, paying particular attention to the movie Memento (Christopher Nolan, 2000). To do this I will rely mainly on the second of Nietzsche's Untimely Meditations, On the Use and Abuse of History for Life, also calling upon other texts such as On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense. Under this framework I will analyze the relationship of Lenny, the protagonist of the film, with his past, partially reminded and constantly restructured in a concious way by the character himself to face his present life in the only way he can become a survivor in his unfortunate situation

La figura del dios Pan fue objeto de una especial atención durante el periodo que va de 1890 a 1926 en la literatura inglesa. Consecuencia parcial de esta situación fue la creación de uno de los personajes más importantes de la literatura del siglo XX, Peter Pan, cuestión que ha sido ignorada por el mundo académico casi por completo. Este artículo se propone atender a la importancia del modelo mitológico en el personaje creado por James Matthew Barrie en 1902.The figure of the god Pan was the object of a special attention during the period that goes from 1890 to 1926 in the English literature. Partial consequence of this situation was the creation of one of the most important characters of the 20th century literature, Peter Pan, question that has been ignored by the academic world almost completely. This article proposes to attend to the importance of the mythological model in the character created by James Matthew Barrie in 1902

Problemas y aciertos de la teoría del Yo narrativo de Dennett: aportaciones al debate sobre la identidad personal

This article presents a critical assesment of Dennett’s narrative self theory as a personal identity theory. First it is contextualized in regard to the debate on personal identity in the decade of 1980, then Dennett’s theory is presented in the light of Strawson’s analysis of Narrativity, the criticisms received by Dennett’s theory and by narrative theories in general are put in relationship, and finally it is shown how Dennett’s theory could help the actual supporters of narrative identity theories to reformulate their arguments in defense to the received criticisms. Thus I hope to contribute to a better understanding of Dennett’s theory and to claim for its relevance in the actual debate about personal identity in analytic philosophy.En este artículo se hace un análisis crítico de la teoría del Yo narrativo de Dennett en tanto teoría de la identidad personal. Se contextualiza su aparición en el debate sobre la identidad personal en la década de 1980, se presenta su teoría a la luz del análisis que hizo Strawson de la Narratividad, se ponen en relación las críticas recibidas por la teoría de Dennett y por el enfoque narrativo en su conjunto y finalmente se muestra cómo la teoría de Dennett podría ayudar a los actuales defensores de las teorías narrativas de la identidad a reformular sus argumentos en respuesta a las críticas recibidas. Se espera así contribuir por un lado a una mejor comprensión de la teoría de Dennett y por otro reivindicar su vigencia en la situación actual del debate sobre la identidad personal en la filosofía analítica

Las teorías narrativas frente a los casos de duplicación: una defensa de la determinación de la identidad personal

In this article I argue for two theses. First, I defend that narrative theories of personal identity must endorse the intuition that personal identity is determinate. Second, I show how narrative theories can succeed in this project by appealing to the social dimension of our existence as persons. To structure my discussion, I use one of the most troubling cases for personal identity theories: duplication thought experiments. Faced with those cases, the only available options seem to be either accepting that personalidentity is indeterminate or give an arbitrary solution to the case that let us keep the intuition that personal identity is determinate. I will show why narrative theories can scape this dilemma thanks to a third alternative.En este artículo argumento a favor de dos tesis. Primero, defiendo que las teorías narrativas de la identidad personal deben comprometerse con la intuición de que la identidad es una relación determinada. Segundo, muestro cómo las teorías narrativas pueden ser exitosas en este empeño dando cabida a la dimensión social de nuestra existencia en tanto personas. Para organizar mi exposición me centro en uno de los casos más conflictivos para las teorías de la identidad personal: los casos de duplicación. Ante estos casos, las únicas opciones disponibles parecen ser bien aceptar que la identidad personal es indeterminada, o bien dar una respuesta arbitraria que permita conservar la determinación de la identidad a costa de vaciar la relación de identidad de toda su importancia práctica. Argumentaré por qué las teorías narrativas pueden escapar de ese dilema mediante una tercera vía

Identidades enredadas en el tejido del tiempo: La metáfora futurista de Wong Kar-Wai

RESUMENEl cine de Wong Kar-Wai es, principalmente, un cine sobre el tiempo. El director chino explora en sus películas la relación del sujeto con la temporalidad en la que se encuentra, mostrando el complejo entramado que une el pasado, el presente y el futuro en una tela que, al igual que la de Penélope, se teje tanto como se desteje. Quizá el mejor exponente de esta situación sea esa suerte de trilogía formada por Días salvajes (1990), Deseando amar (2000) y 2046 (2004), unida no por su argumento sino por la temática que abordan: el conflicto que viven unos personajes al encontrarse atrapados dentro de una temporalidad que sienten ajena o injusta.PALABRAS CLAVEWONG KAR-WAI, 2046, MEMORIA, IDENTIDADABSTRACTThe films by Wong Kar-Wai are primarily about time. La doble dimensión trágica de Barrie y Peter Pan

La plus grande partie des livres de James Matthew Barrie, dont en particulier Peter Pan explorent le rapport entre le monde des adultes et celui des enfants, avec une place d’honneur réservée à la mort car seuls les enfants morts (comme son frère aîné David) peuvent rester jeunes pour toujours. Cet article examine les mécanismes à travers lesquels Barrie a utilisé la littérature pour explorer ses rapports complexes avec l’univers enfantin duquel, comme nous tous, il a été un jour expulsé. Nous verrons comment son exil traumatisant du monde de l’enfance l’a empêché à tout jamais d’habiter normalement le monde des adultes. En même temps nous examinerons le problème contraire dont souffre le personnage de Peter Pan: celui d’être pris au piège d’une enfance éternelle, et d’être par conséquent privé des plaisirs de l’âge adulte.Most of the works of James Matthew Barrie, Peter Pan in particular, explore the relationship between the adult's world and the child's one, with the death set in a privileged location, since only the dead children (as his older brother David) are able to remain as children forever. The following pages show the way in which Barrie explored through literature the complex relationship he had with the world of children from which, like all of us, one day he was expelled. We will see that the way he lived this traumatic exile from his childhood made him unable to ever join the adult world in a normal way. At the same time we will see the opposite problem his character Peter Pan suffers, as he is trapped in an eternal child and deprived of all the pleasures of the adult world

Weaknesses and Strengths of Dennett’s Narrative Self Theory: Contributions to the Debate on Personal Identity

This article presents a critical assesment of Dennett’s narrative self theory as a personal identity theory. First it is contextualized in regard to the debate on personal identity in the decade of 1980, then Dennett’s theory is presented in the light of Strawson’s analysis of Narrativity, the criticisms received by Dennett’s theory and by narrative theories in general are put in relationship, and finally it is shown how Dennett’s theory could help the actual supporters of narrative identity theories to reformulate their arguments in defense to the received criticisms. Thus I hope to contribute to a better understanding of Dennett’s theory and to claim for its relevance in the actual debate about personal identity in analytic philosophy.</p
