The 8Li + 2H reaction studied in inverse kinematics at 3.15 MeV/nucleon using the REX-ISOLDE post-accelerator
The reaction 8Li + 2H has been studied in inverse kinematics at the incident energy of 3.15 MeV/nucleon, using the REX-ISOLDE post-accelerator. The reaction channels corresponding to (d,p), (d,d), and (d,t) reactions populating ground states and low-lying excited states in 7 -9Li have been identified and the related angular distributions extracted and compared with coupled-channels, distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA), and coupled-reaction-channels calculations. A Search for Sigma^0_5, N^0_5 and Theta^++ Pentaquark States
A high-resolution (sigma_instr. = 1.5 MeV) search for narrow states (Gamma <
10 MeV) with masses of M_x approx 1500-1850 MeV in ep -> e'K^+ X, e'K^- X and
e' pi^+ X electroproduction at small angles and low Q^2 was performed. These
states would be candidate partner states of the reported Theta^+(1540)
pentaquark. No statistically significant signal was observed in any of the
channels at 90% C.L. Upper limits on forward production were determined to be
between 0.7% and 4.2% of the Lambda(1520) production cross section, depending

Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering off the neutron
The present experiment exploits the interference between the Deeply Virtual
Compton Scattering (DVCS) and the Bethe-Heitler processes to extract the
imaginary part of DVCS amplitudes on the neutron and on the deuteron from the
helicity-dependent D cross section measured at =1.9
GeV and =0.36. We extract a linear combination of generalized parton
distributions (GPDs) particularly sensitive to , the least constrained
GPD. A model dependent constraint on the contribution of the up and down quarks
to the nucleon spin is deduced.Comment: Published in Phys. Rev. Let
The E00-110 experiment in Jefferson Lab's Hall A: Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering off the Proton at 6 GeV
We present final results on the photon electroproduction
() cross section in the deeply virtual Compton
scattering (DVCS) regime and the valence quark region from Jefferson Lab
experiment E00-110. Results from an analysis of a subset of these data were
published before, but the analysis has been improved which is described here at
length, together with details on the experimental setup. Furthermore,
additional data have been analyzed resulting in photon electroproduction cross
sections at new kinematic settings, for a total of 588 experimental bins.
Results of the - and -dependences of both the helicity-dependent and
helicity-independent cross sections are discussed. The -dependence
illustrates the dominance of the twist-2 handbag amplitude in the kinematics of
the experiment, as previously noted. Thanks to the excellent accuracy of this
high luminosity experiment, it becomes clear that the unpolarized cross section
shows a significant deviation from the Bethe-Heitler process in our kinematics,
compatible with a large contribution from the leading twist-2 DVCS term to
the photon electroproduction cross section. The necessity to include
higher-twist corrections in order to fully reproduce the shape of the data is
also discussed. The DVCS cross sections in this paper represent the final set
of experimental results from E00-110, superseding the previous publication.Comment: 48 pages, 32 figure
Production of highly-polarized positrons using polarized electrons at MeV energies
The Polarized Electrons for Polarized Positrons experiment at the injector of
the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility has demonstrated for the
first time the efficient transfer of polarization from electrons to positrons
produced by the polarized bremsstrahlung radiation induced by a polarized
electron beam in a high- target. Positron polarization up to 82\% have been
measured for an initial electron beam momentum of 8.19~MeV/, limited only by
the electron beam polarization. This technique extends polarized positron
capabilities from GeV to MeV electron beams, and opens access to polarized
positron beam physics to a wide community.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Measurement of the Neutron Radius of 208Pb Through Parity-Violation in Electron Scattering
We report the first measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A_PV in the
elastic scattering of polarized electrons from 208Pb. A_PV is sensitive to the
radius of the neutron distribution (Rn). The result A_PV = 0.656 \pm 0.060
(stat) \pm 0.014 (syst) ppm corresponds to a difference between the radii of
the neutron and proton distributions Rn - Rp = 0.33 +0.16 -0.18 fm and provides
the first electroweak observation of the neutron skin which is expected in a
heavy, neutron-rich nucleus.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur
Improvement in detecting cytomegalovirus drug resistance mutations in solid organ transplant recipients with suspected resistance using next generation sequencing
Objetives
The aim of this study was to identify CMV drug resistance mutations (DRM) in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients with suspected resistance comparing next-generation sequencing (NGS) with Sanger sequencing and assessing risk factors and the clinical impact of resistance.
Methods
Using Sanger sequencing as the reference method, we prospectively assessed the ability of NGS to detect CMV DRM in the UL97 and UL54 genes in a nationwide observational study from September 2013 to August 2016.
Results
Among 44 patients recruited, 14 DRM were detected by Sanger in 12 patients (27%) and 20 DRM were detected by NGS, in 16 (36%). NGS confirmed all the DRM detected by Sanger. The additional six mutations detected by NGS were present in <20% of the sequenced population, being located in the UL97 gene and conferring high-level resistance to ganciclovir. The presence of DRM by NGS was associated with lung transplantation (p = 0.050), the administration of prophylaxis (p = 0.039), a higher mean time between transplantation and suspicion of resistance (p = 0.038) and longer antiviral treatment duration before suspicion
(p = 0.024). However, the latter was the only factor independently associated with the presence of DRM by NGS in the multivariate analysis (OR 2.24, 95% CI 1.03 to 4.87).
Conclusions
NGS showed a higher yield than Sanger sequencing for detecting CMV resistance mutations in SOT recipients. Single Spin Asymmetries of Inclusive Hadrons Produced in Electron Scattering from a Transversely Polarized He Target
We report the first measurement of target single-spin asymmetries (A) in
the inclusive hadron production reaction,
+, using a transversely polarized
He target. The experiment was conducted at Jefferson Lab in Hall A using a
5.9-GeV electron beam. Three types of hadrons (,
and proton) were detected in the transverse hadron momentum range 0.54
0.74 GeV/c. The range of for pions was -0.29 -0.23 and for kaons
-0.25 -0.18. The observed asymmetry strongly depends on the type of
hadron. A positive asymmetry is observed for and . A
negative asymmetry is observed for . The magnitudes of the asymmetries
follow . The K and proton
asymmetries are consistent with zero within the experimental uncertainties. The

extracted for neutrons are opposite in sign with a small increase observed as a

Measurement of pretzelosity asymmetry of charged pion production in Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering on a polarized He target
An experiment to measure single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive production
of charged pions in deep-inelastic scattering on a transversely polarized
He target was performed at Jefferson Lab in the kinematic region of
and . The pretzelosity asymmetries on
He, which can be expressed as the convolution of the
transverse momentum dependent distribution functions and the Collins
fragmentation functions in the leading order, were measured for the first time.
Using the effective polarization approximation, we extracted the corresponding
neutron asymmetries from the measured He asymmetries and cross-section
ratios between the proton and He. Our results show that for both
on He and on the neutron the pretzelosity asymmetries are
