She was a poet, playwright, printer… Her activity as an Avant-garde writer, the fact that she did sport, her love of music and her works as a printer make her one of the most relevant women in the Spanish Silve Age. We’ll analyze her most significant poetic works and we will try to approach to the role of a woman who had contact with Spanish culture important figures in the first half of the 20th century. Concha Méndez was a key figure for women writers emancipation in the 20s and 30s; she was a woman who did not hold herself to the social archetypes imposed on her, and who used her writing seductiveness to achieve her goals

Experimental and computational study of conductivity of multilayer graphene in polypropylene nanocomposites

[EN] We study the electric conductivity of compounds formed by multilayer graphene in polypropylene. Our study makes a comparative analysis between the experimental and computational results. To obtain an experimental measurement of the electronic properties, we deposited multilayer graphene (MLG) nanoparticles over a polypropylene matrix. The deposition was made over several stages, in which we added to the polymer matrix different percentages of MLG nanoparticles using the melt compounding technique, and we studied the conductivities of the nanocomposites by means of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The second part consists of computational calculations, in which we studied the electronic properties of a graphene sheet under a polypropylene molecule with different slabs in the monomer. In both analyses, there is a strong percolation phenomenon with a percolation threshold of around 18% of the MLG nanoparticles. Before the percolation threshold, the charge carriers are constrained in the polypropylene molecule, making the system an insulating material and creating p-type doping. After the percolation threshold, the charge carriers are constrained in the graphene, making the system a conductor material and creating n-type doping with conductivity values of around 20 S m(-1). This phenomenon is a consequence of a change in the mechanism of charge transfer in the interface between the polypropylene molecule and graphene sheet. To describe the charge transfer mechanism, it is necessary to consider the quantum effect. The incorporation of the quantum effects and the percolation phenomenon make it possible for the theoretical conductivity to be close to the conductivity measured experimentally. This research has been supported by the ENE/2015-69203-R project, granted by the Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (MINECO), Spain. Energetics and the magnetic state of Mn2 adsorbed on Au(111): Dimer bond distance dependence

    Get PDF
"In this work we present a theoretical study of the adsorption Mn2 dimer on the Au(111) surface. Here we use the density functional theory to construct a map of adsorption energies, EA, of Mn2 on a Au(111) surface as a function of interatomic bond distance, , among Mn atoms. We employed a 4×4 supercell of Au(111) surface which lead us to reach values in the range from 2.6 to 6.8 Å. To make a full study of the adsorption energies we considered the antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic (FM) states of the Mn2 on the surface. The energy landscape contains local minima when the Mn atoms are adsorbed above triangular sites and barriers that the Mn adatoms have to overcome when they move across the Au(111) surface along various paths. Our results show that the lowest energy state corresponds to the state in which the Mn atoms are next-nearest neighbors and are antiferromagnetically coupled. Furthermore, all the local minima with higher bonding energy are also those in the antiferromagnetic state. Nevertheless we find a short interval in which the FM state has lower energy than the AFM one. Finally, scanning tunneling microscope simulations for various dimer configurations on surface are reported.

Poverty, from a geographical perspective, considers the process of appropriation of space from the construction of multiple territories by the poor population. Thus, the spatial and temporal units show the heterogeneity of rural, urban or peri-urban spaces and will be constituted by specific territorialities, differentiating between them and within them. Territorialization processes are analyzed in contexts of impoverishment and the emergence of multiple territorialities during nine decades in the peri-urban territory of Morelia, Mexico. Information from archives, census and in-depth interviews was integrated. Three historical-spatial processes were identified: i) The origin and consolidation of a poor peasant territory; ii) The industrialization and construction of an irrigation canal as temporary palliative to peasant poverty; and iii) The growth of an intermediate city, the fragmentation of an ejido and the continuity of poverty in western Mexico. With these processes, the historical-spatial dynamics and the constancy of poverty are made visible, where the various social actors build their space based on their needs, work, political and socioeconomic processes.

Rigid heddles in Roman times. New evidence from Augusta Emerita (Mérida, Spain)

Looms constitute one of the main instruments for textile production in Antiquity. However, their localization in the archaeological record is scarce and limited. The vertical loom with pondera is the best-known typology, but not the only one. Exceptionally, we can encounter material vestiges in the archaeological record of band weaving looms. Those looms were used for the confection of narrow repp bands that were generally, generously decorated. One of the main issues has been the identification of these pieces; the definition of their textile functionality and the existent confusion between the different types of band weaving looms. Consequently, not only are they difficult to find archaeologically, but frequently not recognized as a textile tool. In this paper we present an approach to the technology of band-weaving looms in Hispania through a new discovery: a rigid heddle or rigid heddle loom from a recent contextualized funerary context from Augusta Emerita (Mérida). Besides the analysis of the archaeological piece, we have also proposed a study of its context, hence the possibility of a chronological assessment. An anthropological study of the male deceased has been included. Thanks to the anthropological assessment, it has been possible to discuss interesting ideas regarding gender and the social organisation of textile artisans. Similarly, we have collected the state of art regarding the technology of rigid heddle-weaving thanks to a revision of the current archaeological vestiges along the Roman Empire. With this article, we hope to offer a deep look into this type of textile technology and showcase its materialization in the archaeological record.
