Loops in the Curvature Matrix Model
Macroscopic loop correlators are investigated in the hermitian one matrix
model with the potential perturbed by the higher order curvature term. In the
phase of smooth surfaces the model is equivalent to the minimal conformal
matter coupled to gravity. The properties of the model in the intermediate
phase are similar to that of the discretized bosonic string with the central
charge Loop correlators describe the effect of the splitting of the
random surfaces. It is shown, that the properties of the surfaces are changed
in the intermediate phase because the perturbation modifies the spectrum of the

Chaos and flights in the atom-photon interaction in cavity QED
We study dynamics of the atom-photon interaction in cavity quantum
electrodynamics (QED), considering a cold two-level atom in a single-mode
high-finesse standing-wave cavity as a nonlinear Hamiltonian system with three
coupled degrees of freedom: translational, internal atomic, and the field. The
system proves to have different types of motion including L\'{e}vy flights and
chaotic walkings of an atom in a cavity. It is shown that the translational
motion, related to the atom recoils, is governed by an equation of a parametric
nonlinear pendulum with a frequency modulated by the Rabi oscillations. This
type of dynamics is chaotic with some width of the stochastic layer that is
estimated analytically. The width is fairly small for realistic values of the
control parameters, the normalized detuning and atomic recoil
frequency . It is demonstrated how the atom-photon dynamics with a
given value of depends on the values of and initial
conditions. Two types of L\'{e}vy flights, one corresponding to the ballistic
motion of the atom and another one corresponding to small oscillations in a
potential well, are found. These flights influence statistical properties of
the atom-photon interaction such as distribution of Poincar\'{e} recurrences
and moments of the atom position . The simulation shows different regimes of
motion, from slightly abnormal diffusion with at to a superdiffusion with at that
corresponds to a superballistic motion of the atom with an acceleration. The
obtained results can be used to find new ways to manipulate atoms, to cool and

Breakdown of correspondence in chaotic systems: Ehrenfest versus localization times
Breakdown of quantum-classical correspondence is studied on an experimentally
realizable example of one-dimensional periodically driven system. Two relevant
time scales are identified in this system: the short Ehrenfest time t_h and the
typically much longer localization time scale T_L. It is shown that
surprisingly weak modification of the Hamiltonian may eliminate the more
dramatic symptoms of localization without effecting the more subtle but

The long-time dynamics of two hydrodynamically-coupled swimming cells
Swimming micro-organisms such as bacteria or spermatozoa are typically found
in dense suspensions, and exhibit collective modes of locomotion qualitatively
different from that displayed by isolated cells. In the dilute limit where
fluid-mediated interactions can be treated rigorously, the long-time
hydrodynamics of a collection of cells result from interactions with many other
cells, and as such typically eludes an analytical approach. Here we consider
the only case where such problem can be treated rigorously analytically, namely
when the cells have spatially confined trajectories, such as the spermatozoa of
some marine invertebrates. We consider two spherical cells swimming, when
isolated, with arbitrary circular trajectories, and derive the long-time
kinematics of their relative locomotion. We show that in the dilute limit where
the cells are much further away than their size, and the size of their circular
motion, a separation of time scale occurs between a fast (intrinsic) swimming
time, and a slow time where hydrodynamic interactions lead to change in the
relative position and orientation of the swimmers. We perform a multiple-scale
analysis and derive the effective dynamical system - of dimension two -
describing the long-time behavior of the pair of cells. We show that the system
displays one type of equilibrium, and two types of rotational equilibrium, all
of which are found to be unstable. A detailed mathematical analysis of the
dynamical systems further allows us to show that only two cell-cell behaviors
are possible in the limit of , either the cells are attracted to
each other (possibly monotonically), or they are repelled (possibly
monotonically as well), which we confirm with numerical computations

Actually the most common indications for Open Abdomen (OA) are trauma, abdominal sepsis, severe acute pancreatitis and more in general all those situations in which an intra-abdominal hypertension condition is present, in order to prevent the development of an abdominal compartment syndrome. The mortality and morbidity rate in patients undergone to OA procedures is still high. At present many studies have been published about the OA management and the progresses in survival rate of critically ill trauma and septic surgical patients. However several issues are still unclear and need more extensive studies. The definitions of indications, applications and methods to close the OA are still matter of debate. To overcome this lack of high level of evidence data about the OA indications, management, definitive closure and follow-up, the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES) promoted the International Register of Open Abdomen (IROA). The register will be held on a web platform (Clinical Registers (R)) through a dedicated web site: www. clinicalregisters. org. This will allow to all surgeons and physicians to participate from all around the world only by having a computer and a web connection. Ultra-High Carrier Mobilities in Ferroelectric Domain Wall Corbino Cones at Room Temperature
Recently, electrically conducting heterointerfaces between dissimilar band-insulators (such as lanthanum aluminate and strontium titanate) have attracted considerable research interest. Charge transport has been thoroughly explored and fundamental aspects of conduction firmly established. Perhaps surprisingly, similar insights into conceptually much simpler conducting homointerfaces, such as the domain walls that separate regions of different orientations of electrical polarisation within the same ferroelectric band-insulator, are not nearly so well-developed. Addressing this disparity, we herein report magnetoresistance in approximately conical 180° charged domain walls, which occur in partially switched ferroelectric thin film single crystal lithium niobate. This system is ideal for such measurements: firstly, the conductivity difference between domains and domain walls is extremely and unusually large (a factor of at least 1013) and hence currents driven through the thin film, between planar top and bottom electrodes, are overwhelmingly channelled along the walls; secondly, when electrical contact is made to the top and bottom of the domain walls and a magnetic field is applied along their cone axes (perpendicular to the thin film surface), then the test geometry mirrors that of a Corbino disc, which is a textbook arrangement for geometric magnetoresistance measurement. Our data imply carriers at the domain walls with extremely high room temperature Hall mobilities of up to ~ 3,700cm2V-1s-1. This is an unparalleled value for oxide interfaces (and for bulk oxides too) and is most comparable to mobilities in other systems typically seen at cryogenic, rather than at room, temperature
