Physical Therapy Management Of A Patient With Chronic Knee Pain: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Knee pain affects approximately 25% of adults, and as a result limits functional mobility and may induce participation restrictions. Risk factors may contribute to knee pain, with osteoarthritis (OA) being the most prevalent cause in individuals 50 years and older. The rate of knee replacement surgery among individuals 65 and older has increased by approximately eight fold from 1979-2002. Physical Therapy (PT) is a nonsurgical option that offers individuals relief. The purpose of this case report is to review the PT treatment and management for a patient with chronic knee pain, and use evidence based interventions, such as therapeutic exercises, joint mobilization, application of KT, and a home exercise program (HEP).https://dune.une.edu/pt_studcrposter/1094/thumbnail.jp

Design of Extended Channel Ge-source TFET for Low Power Applications

    Get PDF
In this paper, a novel design of a TFET structure using Ge-source and extending a part of the channel into the source is proposed. The DC performance is analyzed by evaluating the ON current, ION/IOFF ratio and subthreshold swing (SS). Moreover, the high-frequency performance is inspected in terms of transconductance (gm) and unit-gain cutoff frequency (fT). All simulations are performed utilizing 2D SILVACO TCAD. It is demonstrated that the ON current and the cut-off frequency can be simultaneously improved by appropriate design of the proposed structure

Mechanisms of damage tolerance and repair during DNA replication

    Get PDF
Accurate duplication of chromosomal DNA is essential for the transmission of genetic information. The DNA replication fork encounters template lesions, physical barriers, transcriptional machinery, and topological barriers that challenge the faithful completion of the replication process. The flexibility of replisomes coupled with tolerance and repair mechanisms counteract these replication fork obstacles. The cell possesses several universal mechanisms that may be activated in response to various replication fork impediments, but it has also evolved ways to counter specific obstacles. In this review, we will discuss these general and specific strategies to counteract different forms of replication associated damage to maintain genomic stability

Modal Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Structural System for Wind Turbine Tower

The wind is almost seasoned and efficient of all renewable energies. The wind turbine tower (WTT) with a horizontal axis. It supported on steel, concrete, pre-stressed, hybrid, tower. As the turbine size grows up, the is heightened to generate spadesful of electricity power. The hybrid tower consists of pre-stressed concrete in the bottom and steel at the top. The parts of the steel tower have to be reasonably rigid, this design requirements raise the cost of a construction lifetime and decrease maintenance condition. To solve and improve this problem, a new proposed of the prestressed concrete (PC) structural system for the horizontal axis (WTT). The introducing tower is designed as an octagon section with internal ribs in the bottom along the hight of the tower with reducing in dimensions at different hight. The aerodynamic principle ware considered in optimizing the transverse profile of the tower. 100 m height of the tower system for the 3.6-megawatt turbine was designed using FE software (ANSYS)

A hybrid ensemble deep learning approach for reliable breast cancer detection

    Get PDF
Among the cancer diseases, breast cancer is considered one of the most prevalent threats requiring early detection for a higher recovery rate. Meanwhile, the manual evaluation of malignant tissue regions in histopathology images is a critical and challenging task. Nowadays, deep learning becomes a leading technology for automatic tumor feature extraction and classification as malignant or benign. This paper presents a proposed hybrid deep learning-based approach, for reliable breast cancer detection, in three consecutive stages: 1) fine-tuning the pre-trained Xception-based classification model, 2) merging the extracted features with the predictions of a two-layer stacked LSTM-based regression model, and finally, 3) applying the support vector machine, in the classification phase, to the merged features. For the three stages of the proposed approach, training and testing phases are performed on the BreakHis dataset with nine adopted different augmentation techniques to ensure generalization of the proposed approach. A comprehensive performance evaluation of the proposed approach, with diverse metrics, shows that employing the LSTM-based regression model improves accuracy and precision metrics of the fine-tuned Xception-based model by 10.65% and 11.6%, respectively. Additionally, as a classifier, implementing the support vector machine further boosts the model by 3.43% and 5.22% for both metrics, respectively. Experimental results exploit the efficiency of the proposed approach with outstanding reliability in comparison with the recent state-of-the-art approaches

The role of osteopontin in children with systemic inflammatory response syndrome and sepsis

    Get PDF
Introduction: Sepsis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in critically ill children despite the use of modern antibiotics and resuscitation therapies. Sepsis must be distinguished from non-infection systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) induced by agents such as trauma and ischemia causing extensive tissue injury to establish appropriate treatments in critically ill patients. Osteopontin acts as an extracellular matrix component or soluble cytokine in inflamed tissues. Its exact role in immune response and sepsis remains to be elucidated. Objective: This study investigated the level of osteopontin in SIRS and sepsis to assess its involvement in the acute inflammatory diseases and its possible role as a marker differentiating children with SIRS from those with sepsis. Methods: Prospective, observational study at pediatric ICU at the children’s Hospital, Zagazig University, Egypt, from October 2013 to December 2014. Fortyfour patients with SIRS or sepsis and 44 healthy subjects were enrolled. All the children were subjected to detailed medical history, Clinical examination, laboratory estimation for CBC, blood cultures, serum osteopontin and IL-6 determination was performed by sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Results: Serum osteopontin levels were significantly higher in patients than in controls and in sepsis than in SIRS, and decreased during the resolution of both the disorders. A receiver operating characteristic curve identified that osteopontin level of 1040 ng/ml has discriminative power between SIRS and sepsis patients with 82.6% sensitivity and 70.4% specificity, area under curve was 0.833. Osteopontin levels directly correlated interleukin-6 levels and clinical severity scores. Conclusion: Osteopontin is strongly up-regulated during SIRS and sepsis and correlate with IL6 and clinical severity scores. Keywords: Sepsis, Inflammation, Osteopontin, IL-6, Cytokine

Experimental Investigation on a Slurry Pump at Different Operating Parameters

    Get PDF
Study on slurry pump performance has attracted much interest in many engineering fields. When pumps are required to handle slurries. The pump head and efficiency are mainly affected by the solid size, solid concentration and solid density. Centrifugal slurry pumps are benign used extensively for pipeline transportation systems and phosphate extraction industry because of their capabilities to economically convey large size abrasive solids in bulk. There is a lack of information about the effect of slurry on the performance characteristics of conventional centrifugal pumps when working without and with cavitation. A test rig with a testing centrifugal pump was constructed. The suction pipe between the mixing tank and pump inlet was designed to avoid solid deposition in suction pipe and to keep the pressure loss between the sump and the pump as low as possible. The rig was designed so that the flow rates, suction pressure, rotational speed, and solid concentration could be varied independently. The results showed that the head generating capability and pump efficiency decrease, also the power consumption increases with increasing solid concentration, consequently the head and efficiency of the pump with NPSH decreases with increasing the solids concentration and particle size, and cavitation inception accelerates with increase the solid concentration
