Linguistic landscape analyses in Jacarezinho-PR and Ourinhos-SP

Abstract: The contemporary world has experienced broad contact with the English language, which has spread through globalization, in mobility processes, translingual practices and reconfigurations of uses , giving rise to English as a Lingua Franca. In times of globalization, the spread of this language has been accelerated by the media, digital and personal contacts. The English language, then, has been appropriated and performed in different places in a globalized context, both in oral and visual forms in local performances. In this article we bring some examples of linguistic landscape, i.e.  manifestations of the English language (and also other foreign languages) in signs, advertisements, names of commercial establishments, graffiti, semiotic resources, among others, in the cities of Jacarezinho-PR and Ourinhos-SP, according to the researches made in the year 2016. The data reveal that the choice of the English language in the names of the establishments in those cities is related to the prestige that this language represents, present in the fashion world, technology, personal influences, status, identity and mobility

A perspectiva do inglês como língua franca e suas implicações pedagógicas

Resumo: As manifestações da língua inglesa na contemporaneidade têm As manifestações da língua inglesa na contemporaneidade têm chamado a atenção de estudiosos da Linguística Aplicada tanto no exterior (SEIDHOLFER, 2004, 2005, 2011; JENKINS 2007, 2009, COGO e DEWEY, 2012), quanto no Brasil (BORDINI, GIMENEZ, 2014, GIMENEZ et al, 2015), por abranger situações em diversos contextos comunicativos, por meio de interações ocorridas majoritariamente entre falantes não nativos/bilíngues de diferentes línguas maternas e de bagagens culturais diversas. Tal fenômeno vem sendo chamado de Inglês como Língua Franca (ILF), e convém discutir como essa perspectiva poderia ser direcionada aos materiais didáticos de língua inglesa. Algumas propostas de estudiosos na área (SIQUEIRA, 2012, TOMLINSON e MASUARA, 2013, TAKAHASHI, 2014) sugerem a sensibilização intercultural e o (re)conhecimento de outros usos e variedades da língua inglesa, por exemplo, direcionando o ensino de língua inglesa para a perspectiva do ILF, promovendo uma descentralização das variedades linguísticas de prestígio (norte-americana e britânica) e da cultura do falante nativo dos países do Círculo Interno

The meaning of a young service attempted suicide for nurses of pre-hospital

Objective: To grasp the meaning of the attending to youth who attempted suicide for the pre-hospital nurse and analyze how that meaning can influence the treatment of these young people. Method: An exploratory and descriptive study, with qualitative approach. Research participants were nine nurses who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Results: From the analysis there emerged three categories: Significance of care to young suicidal; Feelings of nurses to meet a young suicide; Influence of significance in attending a young suicide and its relation to professional conduct. Conclusion: Attending a young suicide has special meaning to the study subjects and awakens feelings such as anxiety, sadness, fear and suffering. The prehospital nurse shows itself compromised in the patient care and family, regardless of the nature of the occurrence, however, puts the fact of suicide as relevant to the care provided

Empreendedorismo e Gestão de Clínicas Médicas Particulares: O caso de uma Clínica de Terapia Renal Substitutiva / Entrepreneurship and Management of Private Medical Clinics: The Case of a Renal Replacement Therapy Clinic

O setor privado de empreendimentos voltados para atendimento em saúde no Brasil representa um mercado expressivo, em especial, por se tratar de um bem de primeira necessidade da população. Este trabalho tem por objetivo descrever um caso de ensino de empreendedorismo focado na abertura de uma clínica de saúde particular, especializada em diálise para pacientes renais crônicos. Intenta-se que seja utilizado como material didático em cursos de graduação em administração e áreas similares. A construção do texto atende às normas aplicadas para casos de ensino. Os personagens centrais da história são Márcio, futuro nefrologista, e Carlos, já formado. Ambos lidam com as dificuldades iniciais para abertura de sua clínica particular devido a falta de experiência. A abertura de uma clínica particular apresenta os desafios pertinentes à abertura de qualquer empresa, dentre elas: análise de mercado, planejamento, divulgação e controle financeiro. O objetivo deste trabalho é proporcionar reflexão e desenvolvimento de competências acerca de temáticas voltadas para dificuldades enfrentadas por gestores, neste nicho de mercado específico, além de problematizar as estratégias utilizadas por empreendedores, analisar a tomada de decisões em gestão, atitude empreendedora, trabalho em equipe e seus reflexos empresariais

Identificação Precoce e Intervenção em Déficits de Linguagem e Dificuldades Comportamentais na Educação Infantil

This project had the aim of detecting and intervening in difficulties of language and behavior in children at the age of three and four. A hundred seventy-eight children were assessed in behavior, expressive and receptive vocabulary and in central auditory processing. 84 children constituted the experimental group and were engaged in an intervention for the development and refinement of language and management of behavior problems through activities developed in software used in tablets, concrete games and orientation provided to their parents and teachers by a professional team composed by speech therapists, psychologists and psycho pedagogues. Posttest analysis indicated significant difference between the vocabulary and language scores, suggesting that this model of early assessment and intervention can be a successful strategy in school environments.Esta pesquisa objetivou detectar e intervir nas dificuldades de linguagem e comportamento em crianças de três e quatro anos de idade. Foram avaliadas 178 crianças nas áreas de comportamento, vocabulário expressivo e receptivo e processamento auditivo central. O grupo experimental, com 84 crianças, foi submetido à intervenção para o desenvolvimento e aprimoramento de linguagem e manejo de comportamentos-problema por meio de atividades desenvolvidas em aplicativos usados em tablets, jogos concretos e orientações fornecidas a seus pais e professores por uma equipe de fonoaudiólogos, psicólogos e psicopedagogos. As análises do pós-teste indicaram diferença significativa entre os resultados dos testes de vocabulário e comportamento, sugerindo que esse modelo de avaliação e intervenção precoce pode ser uma estratégia bem-sucedida em ambiente escolar

Experiência, teoria e ação : práticas pedagógicas de ensino de língua portuguesa

-Este livro apresenta ações pedagógicas de ensino de língua portuguesa e literatura implementadas no âmbito do Mestrado Profissional em Letras da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora. Em uma perspectiva de pesquisa ação, foram desenvolvidas intervenções em sala de aula de ensino básico, pautadas em abordagens teóricas recentes. As motivações, etapas de intervenção, bases teóricas, experiências e resultados das intervenções são expostos e discutidos na obra como forma de incentivar a replicação de ações exitosas de ensino de língua materna

Zika Brazilian Cohorts (ZBC) Consortium: Protocol for an Individual Participant Data Meta-Analysis of Congenital Zika Syndrome after Maternal Exposure during Pregnancy.

Despite great advances in our knowledge of the consequences of Zika virus to human health, many questions remain unanswered, and results are often inconsistent. The small sample size of individual studies has limited inference about the spectrum of congenital Zika manifestations and the prognosis of affected children. The Brazilian Zika Cohorts Consortium addresses these limitations by bringing together and harmonizing epidemiological data from a series of prospective cohort studies of pregnant women with rash and of children with microcephaly and/or other manifestations of congenital Zika. The objective is to estimate the absolute risk of congenital Zika manifestations and to characterize the full spectrum and natural history of the manifestations of congenital Zika in children with and without microcephaly. This protocol describes the assembly of the Consortium and protocol for the Individual Participant Data Meta-analyses (IPD Meta-analyses). The findings will address knowledge gaps and inform public policies related to Zika virus. The large harmonized dataset and joint analyses will facilitate more precise estimates of the absolute risk of congenital Zika manifestations among Zika virus-infected pregnancies and more complete descriptions of its full spectrum, including rare manifestations. It will enable sensitivity analyses using different definitions of exposure and outcomes, and the investigation of the sources of heterogeneity between studies and regions

Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research

Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.
