On ideals with the Rees property

A homogeneous ideal $I$ of a polynomial ring $S$ is said to have the Rees property if, for any homogeneous ideal $J \subset S$ which contains $I$, the number of generators of $J$ is smaller than or equal to that of $I$. A homogeneous ideal $I \subset S$ is said to be $\mathfrak m$-full if $\mathfrak mI:y=I$ for some $y \in \mathfrak m$, where $\mathfrak m$ is the graded maximal ideal of $S$. It was proved by one of the authors that $\mathfrak m$-full ideals have the Rees property and that the converse holds in a polynomial ring with two variables. In this note, we give examples of ideals which have the Rees property but are not $\mathfrak m$-full in a polynomial ring with more than two variables. To prove this result, we also show that every Artinian monomial almost complete intersection in three variables has the Sperner property.Comment: 8 page

Metabolic and Stress Responses in Senegalese Soles (Solea senegalensis Kaup) Fed Tryptophan Supplements: E ects of Concentration and Feeding Period

The objective of this study was to assess the impact of di erent dietary Trp concentrations on the stress and metabolism response of juvenile Senegalese soles (Solea senegalensis). Fish (38.1 1.9 g) were fed di erent Trp-enriched feeds (0%, 1% and 2% Trp added) for two and eight days, and later exposed to air stress for three min. Samples were taken pre- and 1 h post-stress (condition). Plasma cortisol, lactate, glucose and proteins were significantly a ected by the sampling time, showing higher values at 1 h post-stress. Trp concentration in food also had significant e ects on lactate and glucose levels. However, the feeding period did not a ect these parameters. Post-stress values were higher than in the pre-stress condition for every plasma parameter, except for lactate in two days and 1% Trp treatment. Nevertheless, cortisol, glucose and lactate did not vary significantly between pre- and post-stress samplings in fish fed the 1% Trp-enriched diet for two days. The lack of variability in cortisol response was also due to the high pre-stress value, significantly superior to pre-stress control. The exposure time to Trp feeding did not significantly a ect any enzyme activity; however, Trp added and condition influenced protein-related enzyme activities. The minimal resolution conjecture on a general quartic surface in P3

Mustaţă has given a conjecture for the graded Betti numbers in the minimal free resolution of the ideal of a general set of points on an irreducible projective algebraic variety. For surfaces in P3 this conjecture has been proven for points on quadric surfaces and on general cubic surfaces. In the latter case, Gorenstein liaison was the main tool. Here we prove the conjecture for general quartic surfaces. Gorenstein liaison continues to be a central tool, but to prove the existence of our links we make use of certain dimension computations. We also discuss the higher degree case, but now the dimension count does not force the existence of our links

L'addicció a drogues per via parenteral i les seves complicacions mèdiques constitueixen en el nostre país un problema real i greu. Avui dia no sorprén a ningú que els mitjans de difusio social i les revistes mèdiques nacionals es facin ressó, quasi cada dia, d'algun deis múltiples problemes relacionats amb la drogaaddicció, com poden ser la mort d'heroínomans per sobredosi o la descripció de complicacions infeccioses greus. Hi han alguns hospitals urbans els addictes a drogues per via parenteral (ADVP) representen un percentatge important del total de consultes en els Serveis d'Urgències i del total d'ingresos, sobretot en determinades Àrees Mèdiques com Unitats de Cures Intensives o Serveis d'Infeccions. El motiu de la consulta van des de la recerca d'un tractament per a la seva dependència física o psíquica fins a l'aparició de complicacions infeccioses greus o Taturada cardio-respiratòria per sobredosi. Quasi sense haver-nos-en adonat ens trobem davant d'una vertadera 'epidèmia', de gran magnitud i que tendeix a augmentar, les conseqüéncies socials i sanitàries de la qual son difícils de preveure
