    Une Nouvelle Laïcité Multiculturelle

    Get PDF

Video visualization profile analysis in online courses

    Get PDF
In this article, student video visualization profiles are analyzed with two objectives: 1) to identify difficult sections in videos and 2) to predict student performance based on their video visualization profiles. For identifying critical sections in videos two novel indicators are proposed. The first one is designed to measure the complexity of the concept being described. The second proposal, identifies video sections that are more visually complex. For the first indicator, the average number of forward and backward passes are used. The higher the number of backward (forward) passes over a region, the more challenging (easy) the section is. For identifying sections with complex visuals, the number of pauses is recorded. Finally, the student performance prediction is carried out with the purpose of detecting the alignment between videos and their related questions. The results show that video visualization profiles are a good tool to identify video and question alignmen

Use of RNA Domains in the Viral Genome as Innate Immunity Inducers for Antiviral Strategies and Vaccine Improvement

    Get PDF
This chapter will focus on the role of innate immunity induction on antiviral responses with an emphasis on nucleic acids as type-I interferon (IFN) inducers and their use as antiviral compounds and vaccine adjuvants. A general and up-to-date view of the different mechanisms operating in the host cell for sensing viral genomes will be given, as well as viral strategies counteracting this response through immune evasion or specifically targeted antagonism. Our own recent data describing the ability to induce IFN and mediate protection against viral infection in vivo of synthetic RNA transcripts enclosing structural domains present in the 5´- and 3´-terminal regions of the foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) genome will be summarized and discussed in this context. New vaccine formulations including innate immunity inducers are being developed for improvement of current vaccines. The potential of exogenous nucleic acids as modulators of immune response outcomes and vaccine adjuvants will be reviewed and discussed. A schematic summary of the interrelated topics addressed in this chapter is shown in Figure 1. Additionally, a glossary of all the acronyms and abbreviations used in the text and figures is shown in Table 1Spanish Ministry of Science and InnovationPeer reviewe

Piecewise semi-analytical formulation for the analysis of coupled-oscillator systems

    Get PDF
A new simulation technique to obtain the synchronized steady-state solutions existing in coupled oscillator systems is presented. The technique departs from a semi-analytical formulation presented in previous works. It extends the model of the admittance function describing each individual oscillator to a piecewise linear one. This provides a global formulation of the coupled system, considering the whole characteristic of each voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) in the array. In comparison with the previous local formulation, the new formulation significantly improves the accuracy in the prediction of the system synchronization ranges. The technique has been tested by comparison with computationally demanding circuit-level harmonic balance simulations in an array of Van der Pol-type oscillators and then applied to a coupled system of FET-based oscillators at 5 GHz, with a very good agreement with measurements. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF/FEDER) under Project TEC2014-60283-C3-(1/2)-R and Project TEC2017-88242-C3-(1/2)-

Interreligious Dialogue Groups Enabling Human Agency

    Get PDF
Evidence has shown that interreligious dialogue is one of the paths to build bridges among diverse cultural and religious communities that otherwise would be in conflict. Some literature reflects, from a normative standpoint, on how interreligious dialogue should be authentic and meaningful. However, there is scarce literature on what conditions contribute to this dialogue achieving its desirable goals. Thus, our aim was to examine such conditions and provide evidence of how interreligious dialogue enables human agency. By analyzing the activity of interreligious dialogue groups, we document the human agency they generate, and we gather evidence about the features of the conditions. For this purpose, we studied four interreligious dialogue groups, all affiliated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) Association for Interreligious Dialogue (AUDIR), employing in-depth interviews and discussion groups. In these groups, which operate in diverse and multicultural neighborhoods, local actors and neighbors hold dialogues about diversity issues. In so doing, social coexistence, friendship ties, and advocacy initiatives arise. After analyzing the collected data, we conclude that for interreligious dialogue to result in positive and promising outputs, it must meet some principles of dialogic learning, namely equality of differences, egalitarian dialogue, cultural intelligence, solidarity, and transformatio

Meaning, understanding and learning are reinforced in dialogic reading through the interaction among different participants students, teachers, families and other members of the community with a text. The present paper focuses on the development of dialogic reading in learning communities, especially through dialogic literary gatherings with families, with teachers and with students, and through guided libraries and other practices of shared reading with families and other community agents. Furthermore, the transformations that these practices bring about both at a personal level and in the group and the community are also analysed
