Background: The Overall Depression Severity and Impairment Scale (ODSIS) is a self-report scale designed to evaluate the severity and functional impairment associated with depression. Objective: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the online version of the ODSIS in Spanish outpatients with depression and anxiety disorders. Method: Patients with a main diagnosis of a depressive (n = 283) or anxiety disorder (n = 191) and a mean age of 38.15 (SD = 12.06) were evaluated with a clinical diagnostic interview and measures assessing depression, anxiety, positive and negative affect, and quality of life. Factorial structure, internal consistency, convergent, and discriminant validity and cutoff scores were analyzed. Results: Consistent with previous validations of the instrument, Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed a unidimensional factor structure. Furthermore, the results obtained supported the internal consistency and construct validity of the ODSIS scores. A score of 5 was found to meet the criteria used in this study for the optimal cutoff score. Conclusion: The results obtained in this study show that the Spanish version of the ODSIS delivered online is an adequate tool to assess the depression-related severity and impairment in a brief and easy fashion

Educational innovation is a process that extends beyond an academic year. In its development, the stages of planning, implementation, evaluation and feedback are distinguished in order to identify aspects that could be improved. In this contribution, we present the work developed over the last two years in the subject Communication Theory (Digital Communications), Degree in Telematic Engineering, from the University of Valencia. Specifically, software defined radio devices have been incorporated in the laboratories as a tool to bring students closer to more realistic practices. The paper describes the adaptation process of a laboratory session, which was initially developed by a small pilot group in the academic year 2018-2019, for an experimental laboratory group in the academic year 2019-2020. In order to evaluate the impact of the innovation, the involvement of the students is quantified, comparing the results of the experimental group with two control groups that have continued with the standard simulated sessions. The results indicate that the impact has been positive on the students’ ability to face new challenges and on their perception of the relevance of the activities they carry out, although this improvement is not reflected in their ability to focus on the

As the knowledge base and importance of mitochondrial physiology to evolution, health and disease expands, the necessity for harmonizing the terminology concerning mitochondrial respiratory states and rates has become increasingly apparent. The chemiosmotic theory establishes the mechanism of energy transformation and coupling in oxidative phosphorylation. The unifying concept of the protonmotive force provides the framework for developing a consistent theoretical foundation of mitochondrial physiology and bioenergetics. We follow the latest SI guidelines and those of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) on terminology in physical chemistry, extended by considerations of open systems and thermodynamics of irreversible processes. The concept-driven constructive terminology incorporates the meaning of each quantity and aligns concepts and symbols with the nomenclature of classical bioenergetics. We endeavour to provide a balanced view of mitochondrial respiratory control and a critical discussion on reporting data of mitochondrial respiration in terms of metabolic flows and fluxes. Uniform standards for evaluation of respiratory states and rates will ultimately contribute to reproducibility between laboratories and thus support the development of data repositories of mitochondrial respiratory function in species, tissues, and cells. Clarity of concept and consistency of nomenclature facilitate effective transdisciplinary communication, education, and ultimately further discovery

Insights into Adsorption of Linear, Monobranched, and Dibranched Alkanes on Pure Silica STW Zeolite as a Promising Material for Their Separation

[EN] The adsorption of linear, monobranched and dibranched saturated hydrocarbons in the gasoline range has been studied on pure silica STW zeolite (Si-STW) by using pentane, hexane, and heptane isomers as model adsorbates. Experimental single-component adsorption isotherms and kinetic measurements together with configurational bias Monte Carlo (CBMC) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were carried out. Significant differences in both the equilibrium adsorption and especially the adsorption kinetics were found, which suggests that the separation of the quaternary-carbon dibranched isomer is feasible. The adsorption capacities and selectivities surpass those of pure silica MFI (Si-MFI), considered as reference. Altogether, Si-STW is presented as a promising adsorbent for increasing the octane number (ON) of the hydroisomerization product by selectively excluding quaternary-carbon dibranched hydrocarbons. We acknowledge the Spanish Ministry of Sciences, Innovation and Universities (MCIU), State Research Agency (AEI), and the European Fund for Regional Development (FEDER) for their funding via project RTI2018-101784-B-I00 and Program Severo Ochoa SEV-2016-0683.
