    Photonic-structured TCO front contacts yielding optical and electrically enhanced thin-film solar cells

LocalEnergy (PTDC/EAM-PEC/29905/2017). grant SFRH/BPD/114833/2016 .Wavelength-structured transparent conductive oxide (TCO) electrodes are highly promising to improve both the optical and electrical performance of photovoltaic (PV) devices, due to wave-optical light-trapping (LT) effects and higher TCO volume without increasing optical losses. Herein we present a complete study of the benefits of microstructured IZO contacts applied on amorphous-silicon (a-Si) thin film solar cells. The IZO LT structures were integrated by an innovative colloidal lithography process on the front contact of the cells, resulting in enhancements of 26.7% in photocurrent, with respect to planar reference cells, when using an ultra-thin (30 nm) flat IZO layer between the LT structures and the a-Si absorber. However, the best efficiency enhancement (23.1%) was attained with an optimized thickness of 190 nm for this layer, due to a more favorable combination of optical and electrical gains. In view of the application of this LT strategy in flexible PV devices operating under bending, the angular response of the cells was studied for 0-90° incidence angles. This showed that the LT enhancements are generally higher at oblique incidence, reaching 53.2% and 52%, respectively in photocurrent and efficiency, at ± 70° angles with the optimized flat IZO thickness of 190 nm; and 52.2% in efficiency at ± 40° with the ultra-thin thickness of 30 nm.     Spectro-ViT: A Vision Transformer Model for GABA-edited MRS Reconstruction Using Spectrograms

    Purpose: To investigate the use of a Vision Transformer (ViT) to reconstruct/denoise GABA-edited magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) from a quarter of the typically acquired number of transients using spectrograms. Theory and Methods: A quarter of the typically acquired number of transients collected in GABA-edited MRS scans are pre-processed and converted to a spectrogram image representation using the Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT). The image representation of the data allows the adaptation of a pre-trained ViT for reconstructing GABA-edited MRS spectra (Spectro-ViT). The Spectro-ViT is fine-tuned and then tested using \textit{in vivo} GABA-edited MRS data. The Spectro-ViT performance is compared against other models in the literature using spectral quality metrics and estimated metabolite concentration values. Results: The Spectro-ViT model significantly outperformed all other models in four out of five quantitative metrics (mean squared error, shape score, GABA+/water fit error, and full width at half maximum). The metabolite concentrations estimated (GABA+/water, GABA+/Cr, and Glx/water) were consistent with the metabolite concentrations estimated using typical GABA-edited MRS scans reconstructed with the full amount of typically collected transients. Conclusion: The proposed Spectro-ViT model achieved state-of-the-art results in reconstructing GABA-edited MRS, and the results indicate these scans could be up to four times faster

    Blood lactate kinetics during four sets of bench press with 75% of 1RM

    The purpose of the study was to analyze blood lactate kinetics during bench press exercise. 7 resistance-trained men (aged 21.66 ± 0.57 years, body mass 84.33 ± 9.50Kg, height 178.33 ± 0.05 cm, BMI 26.46 ± 2.11 kg/m2) volunteered for the study. The first session consisted of a 1-RM bench press test. After 48 hours, subjects returned and performed a warm up (20 repetitions with 40% 1-RM) and 4 sets of 8 repetitions with an intensity corresponding to 75% of 1-RM, separated by a 2-minute rest interval. Blood samples were collected at rest (R), after the warm up (W), at the end of each rest interval (INT) and immediately after each set (SET) for further lactate concentration analysis using a lactate analyzer (YSI, SPORT 1500®). Results indicate a trend to glucose metabolism, as shown by blood lactate concentration. The higher values at the end of each rest interval indicate that lactate was removed to blood. Blood lactate concentrations were smaller after each set, when compared to the previous interval. These results could be caused by a reduction in glucose metabolism during the sets or even by lactate removal by other tissues, as this is possibly the blood lactate kinetics during such a protocol

    Uzgoj bakterije Methylobacterium organophilum u metanolu za istodobnu proizvodnju proteina i korisnih metabolita

    Research background. This study aims to monitor the growth of the methylotrophic bacteria Methylobacterium organophilum in a culture medium with methanol as a carbon source and to verify the production of unicellular proteins and other biomolecules, such as carotenoids, exopolysaccharides and polyhydroxyalkanoates, making them more attractive as animal feed. Experimental approach. Bacterial growth was studied in shake flasks using different carbon/nitrogen (C:N) ratios to determine their best ratio for achieving the highest volumetric productivity of cells and substrate consumption rate. This optimal parameter was further used in a fed-batch operating bioreactor system to define the kinetic profile of cell growth. Methanol consumption was measured by HPLC analysis and the extracted pigments were analyzed by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. Chemical composition and rheological properties of the produced exopolysaccharides were also determined. Results and conclusions. The best experimental parameters were verified using an initial methanol concentration of 7 g/L in the culture medium. The same initial substrate concentration was used in the fed-batch operation and after 60 h of cultivation 5 g/L of biomass were obtained. The accumulation of carotenoids associated with cell growth was monitored, reaching a concentration of 1.6 mg/L at the end of the process. These pigments were then analyzed and characterized as a set of xanthophylls (oxidized carotenoids). In addition, two other product types were identified during the fed-batch operation: exopolysaccharides, which reached a concentration of 8.9 g/L at the end of the cultivation, and an intracellular granular structure that was detected by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), suggesting the accumulation of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), most likely polyhydroxybutyrate. Novelty and scientific contribution. Methylobacterium organophilum demonstrated a unique ability to produce compounds of commercial interest. The distinct metabolic diversity of this bacterium makes room for its use in biorefineries.Pozadina istraživanja. Svrha je ovoga istraživanja bila pratiti rast metilotrofne bakterije Methylobacterium organophilum u podlozi s metanolom kao izvorom ugljika, te potvrditi sposobnost tog jednostaničnog organizma da proizvodi proteine i druge biomolekule, kao što su karotenoidi, egzopolisaharidi i polihidroksialkanoati, a koji se mogu upotrijebiti u proizvodnji stočne hrane. Eksperimentalni pristup. Rast bakterije ispitan je na tresilici pri različitim omjerima ugljika i dušika (C:N), radi utvrđivanja njihovog optimalnog omjera za postizanje najveće volumetrijske produktivnosti stanica i najboljeg iskorištenja supstrata. Zatim je pomoću tog optimalnog omjera hranjiva određen kinetički profil rasta stanica u šaržnom bioreaktoru. Potrošnja metanola mjerena je metodom HPLC, a izolirani su pigmenti ispitani tekućinskom kromatografijom spregnutom s masenom spektrometrijom. Također su određeni kemijski sastav i reološka svojstva dobivenih egzopolisaharida. Rezultati i zaključci. Najbolji eksperimentalni parametri potvrđeni su pri početnoj koncentraciji metanola u podlozi od 7 g/L. Ista je početna koncentracija korištena u šaržnom bioreaktoru, gdje je nakon 60 h uzgoja dobiveno 5 g/L biomase. Tijekom uzgoja je praćena akumulacija karotenoida, čija je koncentracija pri završetku procesa bila 1,6 mg/L. Pigmenti su zatim ispitani i okarakterizirani kao ksantofili (podvrsta karotenoida). Osim toga, tijekom šaržne fermentacije identificirana su još dva proizvoda: egzopolisaharidi, čija je koncentracija na kraju uzgoja bila 8,9 g/L; te granularna struktura otkrivena pomoću transmisijskog elektronskog mikroskopa, koja upućuje na to da je u stanici došlo do nakupljanja polihidroksialkanoata (PHA), i to najvjerojatnije polihidroksibutirata. Aplicou-se um questionário aos discentes participantes após o projeto, sendo que 89,5% informaram que seus conhecimentos sobre a osteoporose aumentaram e 100% reconheceram como relevante esse perfil de projeto de extensão. Evidenciou-se, portanto, que o projeto se mostrou relevante no que tange a transformação social, através da disseminação de conteúdo de um tema importante de saúde para a população via mídias sociais, e impactou a formação discente, uma vez que a maioria considerou positiva a adesão ao projeto e tema proposto

    Ambientes de ocorrência do porífero Oncosclera jewelli no Parque Estadual Do Tainhas, Planalto Meridional do RS: uma análise geomorfométrica

    Tainhas State Park embraces locations of occurrence of freshwater sponge Oncosclera jewelli. Our objective is to indicate the areas of potential occurrence of the species from factors related to the geomorphometric signature of the occurance points along the Tainhas River in the Park and its buffer zone. Connections and data analysis were performed from the construction and manipulation of a geographic database, in SIGs SPRING-5.4.3 and QGIS-2.18, containing: a) MDEs from Topodata, Embrapa and Alos bases, obtained by remote orbitals sensors for the entire study area, and MDE obtained by drone-generated aerial images of the geomorphometric variables: slope, aspect and topographic position index; b) geological map of Rio Grande do Sul; c) land use and coverage map, based on images from the GeoEye satellite. The results demonstrated that the species occurs exclusively on the lithological unit of Serra Geral Formation. The plain is marked by terrain of low slope and south and east orientation and flattened plains. The Potential Occurrence Map of the species was generated, demonstrating that approximately 4.5% of the total length of watercourse stretches in the study area meet the analyzed geomorphometric conditions.O Parque Estadual do Tainhas abrange ambientes de ocorrência do porífero Oncosclera jewelli. Nosso objetivo é indicar as áreas de potencial ocorrência da espécie a partir de fatores relacionados à assinatura geomorfométrica dos pontos de ocorrência ao longo do Rio Tainhas no Parque e sua zona de amortecimento. Foram realizados cruzamentos e análises de dados a partir da construção e manipulação de um banco de dados geográficos, nos SIGs SPRING-5.4.3 e QGIS-2.18, contendo: a) MDEs oriundos das bases Topodata, Embrapa e Alos, obtidos por sensores remotos orbitais para toda a área de estudo, e MDE obtido por imagens aéreas geradas por Drone e as variáveis geomorfométricas produzidas: declividade, aspecto e índice de posição topográfica; b) mapa geológico do Rio Grande do Sul; c) mapa de uso e cobertura do solo, com base em imagens do satélite GeoEye. Os resultados demonstraram que a espécie ocorre exclusivamente sobre a unidade litológica da Formação Serra Geral. O relevo é marcado por terrenos de baixa declividade e orientação sul e leste e em relevo aplainado. Foi gerado o Mapa de Potencial Ocorrência da espécie, demonstrando que aproximadamente 4,5% do comprimento total dos trechos de cursos d’água na área de estudo reúnem as condicionantes geomorfométricas identificadas como de potencial ocorrência da espécie

    Laboratory study of tissue repair of resin-based endodontic sealers in critical surgical defects

    Filling materials should be restricted to the root canal space. However, sometimes it is impossible to control the apical extrusion, in this case, the fate of the filling material and the result of the treatment will depend on its physicochemical properties and biocompatibility. Objective: To evaluate the tissue response and bone repair capacity of endodontic sealers that were implanted in the calvaria of Wistar rats, forming the groups (n=16): AH Plus and Sealer Plus, compared to the clot group. Methodology: On days 30 and 60, the animals were euthanized, the calvaria was removed and processed for hematoxylin-eosin, immunohistochemistry for collagen type I, Picrosirus red and microtomographic analysis. Data were subjected to ANOVA and Tuckey tests (p<0.05). Results:At 30 days, all groups showed an intense inflammatory reaction (p>0.05). At 60 days, the AH Plus and Sealer Plus maintained an intense inflammatory infiltrate compared to the clot group (p<0.05). We observed immunopositive areas for type I collagen in all groups at 30 days and 60 days (p>0.05). We observed more red collagen fibers for the Sealer Plus compared to the clot group at 30 days (p<0.05). Considering the total fibers, the clot group at 30 days compared to 60 days after surgery showed an increase in the amount of matrix (p<0.05). There were no statistical differences between groups for green and yellow fibers (p>0.05). Regarding morphometric parameters, at 30 days, the newly formed bone volume and number of bone trabeculae were higher in the groups with sealers compared to the clot group (p<0.05). At 60 days, AH Plus and Sealer Plus showed greater bone neoformation compared to the clot group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Despite AH Plus and Sealer Plus induced an intense inflammatory reaction, they can be considered biocompatible materials, since they allowed bone repair

    Linfangioleiomiomatose diagnosticada a partir de um pneumotórax espontâneo, um relato de caso

    A Linfagioleiomiomatose (LAM) é uma doença multissistêmica rara, caracterizada sobretudo por manifestações pulmonares. Sua apresentação inicial pode-se dar pelo desenvolvimento de Pneumotórax espontâneo, o qual ocorre em dois terços dos pacientes. A investigação diagnóstica deve ser realizada através de testes de função pulmonar, exames de imagem, bem como com a exclusão de doenças reumatológicas que participam do diagnóstico diferencial. O tratamento é a imunossupressão, sendo o Sirolimo considerado o padrão-ouro. Assim, o presente estudo tem como objetivos relatar um caso de Linfagioleiomiomatose diagnosticada partir do surgimento de um Pneumotórax espontâneo e revisar a literatura a respeito desta condição clínica
