HOW LONG DO HOUSING CYCLES LAST? A DURATION ANALYSIS FOR EMERGING ECONOMIES

    Get PDF
In this paper, I empirically study the amplitudes and durations of housing cycles in selected emerging countries. Using the Harding and Pagan (2002) approach, I identify peaks and troughs of house prices for 10 countries. I find that, on average, housing expansions last longer and have greater amplitudes than housing contractions. I, then, estimate a discrete time survival model of housing expansions and contractions. I show that both contractions and expansions have positive duration dependence. I find that inflation and economic growth are useful predictors for the end of periods of expansions and contractions. In this paper, I empirically study the amplitudes and durations of housing cycles in selected emerging countries. Introduction: Stress is a public health problem in today’s world. Spiritual health is one of the health dimensions that can affect the other ones. This study is about the connection between spiritual health and stress and cortisol level among nursing students.Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive analytic search that was done in Azad University, Rasht on 2013. Total of 100 students were participated in this study. Our tools for collecting data were included: demographic information such as, age, sex, occupation and marital status situation. Also, questionnaire about depression, anxiety and stress measurement (Dass_21) were utilized. Additionally, standard questionnaire about spiritual health (SWB) were used. The cortisol plasma was measured with Eliza method. Results: According to this study, increasing the spiritual health will decrease depression, anxiety and stress among students. We also can conclude that by increasing the depression and anxiety, the cortisol level will increase. There is no connection between cortisol level and stress and spiritual health among these students, but there is a connection between believing in God (as a solution of problems and enjoying the life) and cortisol level

SEH: Size Estimate Hedging for Single-Server Queues

For a single server system, Shortest Remaining Processing Time (SRPT) is an optimal size-based policy. In this paper, we discuss scheduling a single-server system when exact information about the jobs' processing times is not available. When the SRPT policy uses estimated processing times, the underestimation of large jobs can significantly degrade performance. We propose a simple heuristic, Size Estimate Hedging (SEH), that only uses jobs' estimated processing times for scheduling decisions. A job's priority is increased dynamically according to an SRPT rule until it is determined that it is underestimated, at which time the priority is frozen. Numerical results suggest that SEH has desirable performance when estimation errors are not unreasonably large

Experimental Investigation on 3D Flow around a Single T-Shaped Spur Dike in a Bend

The flow field around a T-shaped spur dike located in a 90° bend is investigated experimentally. The three-dimensional Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) was used for measuring the flow field. The comparison of the three dimensional components of velocity was made in different sections of the bend and the differences of the flow pattern along the bend was analyzed. The observations showed the significant effect of the spur dike on the secondary flow patterns. Some horizontal vortices with a counter-clock-wise direction were also observed in the up and down stream of the spur dike near the outer bank of the bend. In addition, the vortices and reverse flows in the up and down stream of the spur dike, the changes of the secondary flow and vorticity are also addressed in this study

Organizational health is critical for organizational productivity. This study aimed to evaluate the organizational health of university hospitals of Isfahan, Iran. Methods: This descriptive-analytic and cross- sectional study was conducted in 7 hospitals in 2015. A researcher-made questionnaire with 18 dimensions and 54 questions was used to gather data. A total of 283 hospital employees were randomly selected from seven hospitals. Data analysis was performed through SPSS21 and using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percent, mean ± SD as well as inferential statistics like regression and ANOVA. Results: The mean score Mean score of organizational health in studied hospitals was 3.08 ± 0.63 from 5. Organizational health was good in one hospital, moderate in five hospitals and poor in one hospital. Dimensions of morale, planning and formality had the highest and dimensions of justice, decision- making and control had the lowest scores. Intra-ward relationships, efficient use of resources, adaptability, leadership and independence showed the most effect on organizational health. This study examines the relationship between risk management and stock returns of companies listed in Tehran Stock Exchange. To do this, 73 companies during the period of 2005 to 2010 were selected. The effects of different variables on risk management including working capital, current assets, and current liabilities (independent variables) on stock returns (the dependent variable) of companies were studied. The purpose of it is to know the following issues: 1. Studying the relationship between current assets changes and stock return changes 2. Studying the relationship between current liabilities changes and stock return changes 3. Studying the relationship between working capital changes and stock return changes 4. Studying the relationship between risk management approach and stock return changes. For the analysis, the Pearson correlation and regression are used. Also, by the use of security exchange site and Tadbir Pardaz Software, the raw data of companies were directly gathered from Tehran Stock Exchange and financial statements of companies, and EXCEL and SPSS Softwares were used for data analysis. The results demonstrate that there is no significant relationship between any of the risk management variables and stock returns of companies in Tehran Stock Exchange during the years 2005 to 2010

Background and Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of labor medicine retraining on the performance of general practitioners using the Kirkpatrick model.Materials and Methods: To determine the sample size, we used Krjatsy and Morgan tables. According to the population size (100 persons) in our study, 93 general practitioners working in the department of labor medicine affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran were selected as the study population. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the working-class retraining course, the Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model was used in three levels of reaction, learning and learner behavior. In line with ethical considerations, only general practitioners willing to cooperate were used, as well as respect for honesty and trust in the use of English and Persian resources. Results: Based on the results of present study, the response of 81% of all subjects was evaluated as an effective factor in the implementation of a training course. The results of the second level review of Kirkpatrick's model also showed that the level of learning and knowledge of participants after their presence in the period increased significantly (p-value <0.001). Also, the rate of changes in the behavior of physicians participating in the course (third level of Kirk Patrick) revealed that participation in the retraining period had a good effect on the behavior of participants in the course. Conclusion: Generally, it can be suggested that the holding of retraining courses of occupational medicine for general practitioners has a positive effect on their effectiveness.
