Deforestation has negative impacts on diversity and community patterns of several taxa. In the eastern Amazon, where much deforestation is predicted for the coming years, forests patches may be essential to maintain the local biodiversity. Despite increasing concerns about the conservation of threatened areas, few studies have been performed to analyze the communities of diversified groups, such as insects, in the eastern Amazon. Here, we investigated species diversity and community structure of fruit-feeding butterflies, a well-known bioindicator group, in a threatened remnant of an eastern Amazonian forest located on Maranhão Island, northeastern Brazil. Fruit-feeding butterflies were sampled monthly for one year. Diversity and evenness indices, richness estimators, rarefaction curve, and rank-abundance plot were used to describe community structure in the study area. We captured 529 fruit-feeding butterflies in four subfamilies, 23 genera and 34 species. The three most abundant species, Hamadryas februa, Hamadryas feronia, and Hermeuptychia cf. atalanta are indicators of disturbed habitats and represented more than half of the collected individuals. Richness estimators revealed that between 87 and 94% of the fruit-feeding butterfly species were sampled, suggesting few additional records would be made for the area. Our results indicate that human-caused disturbances have altered local community patterns and provide baseline data for future research in threatened regions of the eastern Amazon

Introduction. Cardiovascular (CV) diseases are a major cause of death in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Novel biomarkers [B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP); osteoprotegerin (OPG)/receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL) ratio; and dickkopf-1 (DKK-1)] have been used in CV risk assessment. We analysed, in established RA patients, the presence of silent myocardial ischemia and its association with clinical variables, BNP, and bone and atheroma biomarkers. Methods. From a single-center tertiary referral hospital, RA patients asymptomatic for CV disease were submitted to myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) under adenosine stress and biomarkers measurements. Logistic regression was used to estimate crude odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results. In 189 patients, perfusion defects were frequent (25%) and associated with BNP ≥ 100 pg/mL (OR = 5.68; 95% CI: 2.038–15.830), fourth log OPG/RANKL ratio quartile (OR = 2.88; 95% CI: 1.091–7.622), and DKK-1 ≥ 133 pmol/L (OR = 2.69; 95% CI: 1.058–6.840). Similar associations were confirmed in those with C-reactive protein > or ≤ 3 mg/L. No relationship was found with the majority of traditional CV factors nor with disease variables. Conclusions. Our results corroborated the hypothesis that MPS could reveal subclinical CV dysfunction, supported the utility of BNP measurements as a screening tool, and put in perspective the potential usefulness of complementary approaches in CV risk assessment in RA patients

This study aimed to test the predictive capacity of pathological traits of personality and career adaptability on four constructs that compose the well-being at work: work engagement, job satisfaction, burnout, and workaholism. A total of 204 Brazilian working adults (M age = 34.02, SD = 10.39) participated in the study, which responded to scales measuring pathological traits, career adaptability resources, and well-being components at work. Our findings indicate that pathological traits are, in general, negatively related to job satisfaction and work engagement and positively associated with burnout and workaholism. After the insertion of career adaptability, there was an increase in most of the models' explanation. The contribution of adaptability was significant only for job satisfaction prediction.

The objective of this study was to evaluate soil water availability in different soil uses using two types of soil samples. The experiment was carried out in the southern state of Espírito Santo State, Brazil, using a completely randomized experimental design with a sub - divided plot, with three replications. The plots were four different uses of the soil (Tifton, Conilon coffee, Arabica coffee and receptive coffee), and in the subplots two types of samples, deformed and undisturbed. In the subsubparcels two depths 0.00-0.20 and 0.20-0.40 m were evaluated. Soil moisture was determined in the eld capacity, the permanent wilting point and the total water availability. The eld capacity was not in uenced by the type of samples in the depth of 0-0.20 m, being in uenced in the depth of 0.20-0.40 m, overestimating the soil water content with deformed samples. The permanent wilting point was underestimated with deformed sample at the depths studied, which differed from each other. Soil water availability was overestimated with deformed sample for sample types and depths, differing from undisturbed. The use of the soil did not in uence the water storage components in the soil.

Serum serotonin levels and bone in rheumatoid arthritis patients

In rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a disease characterized by bone loss, increased levels of serotonin have been reported. Recent studies have demonstrated a role for circulating serotonin as a regulator of osteoblastogenesis, inhibiting bone formation. Thus, we measured serum serotonin levels (SSL) in a Portuguese sample of 205 RA patients and related these to anthropometric variables, disease parameters, serum bone biomarkers, and bone mineral density (BMD) assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry at several sites (total proximal femur, lumbar spine, left hand, and left second proximal phalange). SSL were inversely associated with body mass index (BMI) in RA women (r = − 0.218; p = 0.005), independent of exposure to biologics and/or bisphosphonates. Among biologic naïves, there was an inverse association between SSL and osteoprotegerin in RA women (r = − 0.260; p = 0.022). Serum β-CTX and dickkopf-1 were strongly associated with SSL in RA men not treated with bisphosphonates (r = 0.590; p < 0.001/r = 0.387; p = 0.031, respectively). There was also an inverse association between SSL and sclerostin in RA men (r = − 0.374; p < 0.05), stronger among biologic naïve or bisphosphonates-unexposed RA men. In crude models, SSL presented as a significant negative predictor of total proximal femur BMD in RA women as well as in postmenopausal RA women. After adjustment for BMI, disease duration, and years of menopause, SSL remained a significant negative predictor of total proximal femur BMD only in postmenopausal RA women. Our data reinforce a role, despite weak, for circulating serotonin in regulating bone mass in RA patients, with some differences in terms of gender and anatomical sites.Associação Nacional de Reumatologia, the study sponsor, had no role in the study design; in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of the data; in the writing of the report; and in the decision to submit the paper for publication

The purpose of this article is to revisit the Bakhtin, Volóchinov and Medviédev Circle’sphilosophical conception of language to think about digital discourse from a post-dualistphilosophical perspective. As a hypothesis, it is understood that this conception presentsa non-logocentric orientation of language, which makes it possible to perceive dialogicalrelationships in other phenomena, such as digital. The methodology is Social NetworkAnalysis, which serves to understand phenomena associated with the structure of onlinesocial networks. The study brings an empirical analysis of discourses that circulate/circulated on TikTok, presenting the following steps as an analytical path: identification ofthe social actor (TikTok profile); how their space of expression is constructed (their discourse construction) and how relationships with other social actors take place. Finally, the research uses Bakhtin (2016), Volóchinov (2019) and Medviédev (2016) when they talkabout discourse and speech genre, since these authors’ notes serve as an analytical pathto understand the space of expression of the social actor. Far from the intention of finalizing discussions, this investigation intends to contribute to the advancement of dialogicaldiscourse studies, since it proposes to think about the phenomenon of digital discoursethrough Bakhtinian lenses on language.O objetivo deste artigo é revisitar a concepção filosófica de linguagem no Círculo Bakhtin, Volóchinov e Medviédev para pensar o enunciado digital de uma perspectiva filosófica pós-dualista.
