A Rare Case of Jejunal Arterio-Venous Fistula: Treatment with Superselective Catheter Embolization with a Tracker-18 Catheter and Microcoils
Arterio-venous fistulas may develop spontaneously, following trauma or infection, or be iatrogenic in nature. We present a rare case of a jejunal arterio- venous fistula in a 35-year-old man with a history of pancreatic head resection that had been performed two years previously because of chronic pancreatitis. The patient was admitted with acute upper abdominal pain, vomiting and an abdominal machinery-type bruit. The diagnosis of a jejunal arterio-venous fistula was established by MR imaging. Transfemoral angiography was performed to assess the possibility of catheter embolization. The angiographic study revealed a small aneurysm of the third jejunal artery, abnormal early filling of dilated jejunal veins and marked filling of the slightly dilated portal vein (13-14 mm). We considered the presence of segmental portal hypertension. The patient was treated with coil embolization in the same angiographic session. This case report demonstrates the importance of auscultation of the abdomen in the initial clinical examination. MR imaging and color Doppler ultrasound are excellent noninvasive tools in establishing the diagnosis. The role of interventional radiological techniques in the treatment of early portal hypertension secondary to jejunal arterio-venous fistula is discussed at a time when this condition is still asymptomatic. The Nylon Scintillator Containment Vessels for the Borexino Solar Neutrino Experiment
Borexino is a solar neutrino experiment designed to observe the 0.86 MeV Be-7
neutrinos emitted in the pp cycle of the sun. Neutrinos will be detected by
their elastic scattering on electrons in 100 tons of liquid scintillator. The
neutrino event rate in the scintillator is expected to be low (~0.35 events per
day per ton), and the signals will be at energies below 1.5 MeV, where
background from natural radioactivity is prominent. Scintillation light
produced by the recoil electrons is observed by an array of 2240
photomultiplier tubes. Because of the intrinsic radioactive contaminants in
these PMTs, the liquid scintillator is shielded from them by a thick barrier of
buffer fluid. A spherical vessel made of thin nylon film contains the
scintillator, separating it from the surrounding buffer. The buffer region
itself is divided into two concentric shells by a second nylon vessel in order
to prevent inward diffusion of radon atoms. The radioactive background
requirements for Borexino are challenging to meet, especially for the
scintillator and these nylon vessels. Besides meeting requirements for low
radioactivity, the nylon vessels must also satisfy requirements for mechanical,
optical, and chemical properties. The present paper describes the research and

The assessment of angiogenesis and fibroblastic stromagenesis in hyperplastic and pre-invasive breast lesions
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>To investigate the changes of the neoplastic microenvironment during the different morphological alterations of hyperplastic and pre-invasive breast lesions.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>78 in situ ductal carcinomas of all degrees of differentiation, 22 atypical ductal hyperplasias, 25 in situ lobular carcinomas, 18 atypical lobular hyperplasias, 32 ductal epithelial hyperplasias of usual type and 8 flat atypias were immunohistochemically investigated for the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), smooth muscle actin (SMA) and CD34, while microvessel density (MVD) was counted using the anti-CD31 antibody.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>VEGF expression was strongly correlated with MVD in all hyperplastic and pre-invasive breast lesions (p < 0.05). Stromagenesis, as characterized by an increase in SMA and a decrease in CD34 positive myofibroblasts was observed mostly around ducts harboring high grade in situ carcinoma and to a lesser extent around moderately differentiated DCIS. In these two groups of in situ carcinomas, a positive correlation between MVD and SMA (p < 0.05) was observed. On the contrary, CD34 was found to be inversely related to MVD (p < 0.05). No statistically significant changes of the stromal fibroblasts were observed in low grade DCIS neither in any of the other lesions under investigation as compared to normal mammary intra- and interlobular stroma.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Angiogenesis is observed before any significant fibroblastic stromagenesis in pre-invasive breast lesions. A composite phenotype characterized by VEGF positive epithelial cells and SMA positive/CD34 negative stromal cells, is identified mostly in intermediate and high grade DCIS. These findings might imply for new therapeutic strategies using both anti-angiogenic factors and factors selectively targeting tumor stroma in order to prevent the progression of DCIS to invasive carcinoma.</p
Measurement of the Lifetime Difference in the B_s^0 System
We present a study of the decay B_s^0 -> J/psi phi We obtain the CP-odd
fraction in the final state at time zero, R_perp = 0.16 +/- 0.10 (stat) +/-
0.02 (syst), the average lifetime of the (B_s, B_sbar) system, tau (B_s^0)
=1.39^{+0.13}_{-0.16} (stat) ^{+0.01}_{-0.02} (syst) ps, and the relative width
difference between the heavy and light mass eigenstates, Delta Gamma/Gamma =
(Gamma_L - Gamma_H)/Gamma =0.24^{+0.28}_{-0.38} (stat) ^{+0.03}_{-0.04} (syst).
With the additional constraint from the world average of the B_s^0$lifetime
measurements using semileptonic decays, we find tau (B_s^0)= 1.39 +/- 0.06 ~ps
and Delta Gamma/\Gamma = 0.25^{+0.14}_{-0.15}. For the ratio of the B_s^0 and
B^0 lifetimes we obtain tau(B_s^0)/tau(B^0)} = 0.91 +/- 0.09 (stat) +/- 0.003

Measurement of the B0_s semileptonic branching ratio to an orbitally excited D_s** state, Br(B0_s -> Ds1(2536) mu nu)
In a data sample of approximately 1.3 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector
between 2002 and 2006, the orbitally excited charm state D_s1(2536) has been
observed with a measured mass of 2535.7 +/- 0.6 (stat) +/- 0.5 (syst) MeV via
the decay mode B0_s -> D_s1(2536) mu nu X. A first measurement is made of the
branching ratio product Br(b(bar) -> D_s1(2536) mu nu X).Br(D_s1(2536)->D*
K0_S). Assuming that D_s1(2536) production in semileptonic decay is entirely
from B0_s, an extraction of the semileptonic branching ratio Br(B0_s ->

Observation of ZZ production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
We present an observation for ZZ -> l+l-l'+l'- (l, l' = e or mu) production
in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. Using 1.7
fb-1 of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider,
we observe three candidate events with an expected background of 0.14 +0.03
-0.02 events. The significance of this observation is 5.3 standard deviations.
The combination of D0 results in this channel, as well as in ZZ -> l+l-nunubar,
yields a significance of 5.7 standard deviations and a combined cross section
of sigma(ZZ) = 1.60 +/- 0.63 (stat.) +0.16 -0.17 (syst.) pb.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, 2 tables Modified slightly following review

Simultaneous measurement of the ratio B(t->Wb)/B(t->Wq) and the top quark pair production cross section with the D0 detector at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV
We present the first simultaneous measurement of the ratio of branching
fractions, R=B(t->Wb)/B(t->Wq), with q being a d, s, or b quark, and the top
quark pair production cross section sigma_ttbar in the lepton plus jets channel
using 0.9 fb-1 of ppbar collision data at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV collected with the
D0 detector. We extract R and sigma_ttbar by analyzing samples of events with
0, 1 and >= 2 identified b jets. We measure R = 0.97 +0.09-0.08 (stat+syst) and
sigma_ttbar = 8.18 +0.90-0.84 (stat+syst)} +/-0.50 (lumi) pb, in agreement with

Third International Consensus Conference on lesions of uncertain malignant potential in the breast (B3 lesions)
The heterogeneous group of B3 lesions in the breast harbors lesions with different malignant potential and progression risk. As several studies about B3 lesions have been published since the last Consensus in 2018, the 3rd International Consensus Conference discussed the six most relevant B3 lesions (atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH), flat epithelial atypia (FEA), classical lobular neoplasia (LN), radial scar (RS), papillary lesions (PL) without atypia, and phyllodes tumors (PT)) and made recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Following a presentation of current data of each B3 lesion, the international and interdisciplinary panel of 33 specialists and key opinion leaders voted on the recommendations for further management after core-needle biopsy (CNB) and vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB). In case of B3 lesion diagnosis on CNB, OE was recommended in ADH and PT, whereas in the other B3 lesions, vacuum-assisted excision was considered an equivalent alternative to OE. In ADH, most panelists (76%) recommended an open excision (OE) after diagnosis on VAB, whereas observation after a complete VAB-removal on imaging was accepted by 34%. In LN, the majority of the panel (90%) preferred observation following complete VAB-removal. Results were similar in RS (82%), PL (100%), and FEA (100%). In benign PT, a slim majority (55%) also recommended an observation after a complete VAB-removal. VAB with subsequent active surveillance can replace an open surgical intervention for most B3 lesions (RS, FEA, PL, PT, and LN). Compared to previous recommendations, there is an increasing trend to a de-escalating strategy in classical LN. Due to the higher risk of upgrade into malignancy, OE remains the preferred approach after the diagnosis of ADH
Measurements of differential cross sections of Z/gamma*+jets+X events in proton anti-proton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We present cross section measurements for Z/gamma*+jets+X production,
differential in the transverse momenta of the three leading jets. The data
sample was collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron proton
anti-proton collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV and corresponds to
an integrated luminosity of 1 fb-1. Leading and next-to-leading order
perturbative QCD predictions are compared with the measurements, and agreement
is found within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties. We also make
comparisons with the predictions of four event generators. Two
parton-shower-based generators show significant shape and normalization
differences with respect to the data. In contrast, two generators combining
tree-level matrix elements with a parton shower give a reasonable description
of the the shapes observed in data, but the predicted normalizations show
significant differences with respect to the data, reflecting large scale
uncertainties. For specific choices of scales, the normalizations for either
generator can be made to agree with the measurements.Comment: Published in PLB. 11 pages, 3 figure
Search for charged Higgs bosons decaying to top and bottom quarks in ppbar collisions
We describe a search for production of a charged Higgs boson, q \bar{q'} ->
H^+, reconstructed in the t\bar{b} final state in the mass range 180 <= M_{H^+}
<= 300 GeV. The search was undertaken at the Fermilab Tevatron collider with a
center-of-mass energy sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV and uses 0.9 fb^{-1} of data collected
with the D0 detector. We find no evidence for charged Higgs boson production
and set upper limits on the production cross section in the Types I, II and III
two-Higgs-doublet models (2HDMs). An excluded region in the (M_{H^+},tan\beta)
