Vis-á-Vis-á-Vis. La vision artística y tridimensional de un problema

ANPO (A Non-predefined Outcome) is an an art-making methodology that employs structuralist theory of language (Saussure, Lacan, Foucault) combined with Hegel’s dialectic and the theory of creation of space by Lefebvre to generate spaces of dialogue and conversation between community members and different stakeholders. These theories of language are used to find artistic ways of representing a topic that community members have previously chosen. The topic is approached in a way that allows a visual, aural, performative and gustative form. To achieve this, the methodology is split in four main steps: step 1 ‘This is not a chair’, Step 2 ‘The topic’, Step 3 ‘ Vis-á-vis-á-vis’ and step 4. ‘Dialectical representation’ where the defined topic is used to generate artistic representations.The step 1 is a warm up exercise informed by the Rene Magritte painting ‘This is not a Pipe’. This exercise aims to help the participants to see an object as something else than an object but as a consequence of social implications. Step 2, participants choose a random topic and vote for it. The artist/facilitator does not predetermine the topic, participants are the one who propose it and choose it. Step 3, will be analysed in this publication and finally step 4, the broken down topic is taken to be represented and analysed in different ways. ANPO (A Non-predefined Outcome/ Un resultado no predeterminado) es una metodología artística que emplea teoría estructuralista del lenguaje (Saussure, Lacan, Foucault) combinada con la dialéctica de Hegel y la teoría de la creación del espacio de Lefebvre, para generar espacios de dialogo y conversación entre comunidades y sus diferentes miembros. Estas teorías del lenguaje son usadas para encontrar una representación artística del tema que los miembros de la comunidad han previamente seleccionado. El tema es representado a través de formas visuales, auditivas, corporales y gustativas. Para lograr esto, la metodología se divide en cuatro pasos principales. Paso I. ‘Esto no es una silla’. Paso II. ‘El tópico’. Paso III. ‘Vis-á-vis-á-vis’ y finalmente el Paso IV “Representaciones Dialécticas’ donde el tema es usado para generar representaciones artísticas.El Paso I es un ejercicio de calentamiento basado en la pintura ‘esta no es una pipa’ de Rene Magritte. Este ejercicio tiene como objetivo ayudar a los participantes a ver un objeto como una consecuencia de implicaciones sociales. En el Paso II, los participantes escogen un tema cualquiera y votan por él. El artista/facilitador no predetermina el tema ya que son los participantes quienes proponen y escogen. Paso III, será analizado en este articulo y finalmente el Paso IV, donde el tema es desglosado y representado artísticamente

Large lianas as hyperdynamic elements of the tropical forest canopy

Lianas (woody vines) are an important component of lowland tropical forests. We report large liana and tree inventory and dynamics data from Amazonia over periods of up to 24 years, making this the longest geographically extensive study of liana ecology to date. We use these results to address basic questions about the ecology of large lianas in mature forests and their interactions with trees. In one intensively studied site we find that large lianas (≥10 cm diameter) represent ,5% of liana stems, but 80% of biomass of well-lit upper canopy lianas. Across sites, large lianas and large trees are both most successful in terms of structural importance in richer soil forests, but large liana success may be controlled more by the availability of large tree supports rather than directly by soil conditions. Long-term annual turnover rates of large lianas are 5–8%, three times those of trees. Lianas are implicated in large tree mortality: liana-infested large trees are three times more likely to die than liana-free large trees, and large lianas are involved in the death of at least 30% of tree basal area. Thus large lianas are a much more dynamic component of Amazon forests than are canopy trees, and they play a much more significant functional role than their structural contribution suggests

Un modelo de externalidades para el crecimiento manufacturero regional

This paper investigates the impact of externalities on the growth of manufacturing employment in the northern border states of Mexico. The process of economic globalization has been determinant in the restructuring of the manufacturing industry in this region. The study uses a model of externalities, based on relative agglomeration indexes, to develop an econometric assessment of the effect of external economies on manufacturing employment growth. The results show faster growth in the border region, while the central region exhibits a relative decrease.

ANÁLISIS DE LA CADENA AGROALIMENTARIA DE DURAZNO EN LA COLONIA EL POTRERO, COATEPEC HARINAS: PROBLEMÁTICA Y PROPUESTA DE ACCIONES

El durazno con una superficie de 3 117 ha. se ubica en el tercer lugar en la fruticultura del Estado de México, con 1 675 ha. el municipio Coatepec Harinas es el principal productor, donde la comunidad Colonia El Potrero sobresale por las 240 ha. que dedica a este cultivo, el volumen de producción y la calidad de la misma. Sin embargo los productores enfrentan serios problemas por lo que se planteó el presente trabajo con el objetivo de analizar la cadena agroalimentaria del durazno en la Colonia El Potrero, Coatepec Harinas. Se utilizaron dos metodologías; la Evaluación de Cadenas Agro-Alimenticias para la Identificación de Problemas y Proyectos propuesta por La Gra (1993), que permitió analizar la cadena alimenticia e identificar las etapas básicas (pre-producción, producción, cosecha, post-cosecha y mercadeo), los principales participantes y sus respectivos papeles y la de Análisis de Cadenas Productivas con Equidad para la Promoción del Desarrollo Local que proponen Van Der Heyden y Salazar (2004b), para el análisis de resultados lo que implicó recopilar, sistematizar y ordenar los datos necesarios para la preparación del FODA y así poder registrar los puntos críticos y ventajas competitivas. Con la primera se detectaron diferentes problemas en los cuatro componentes de la cadena: preproducción, cosecha, manejo post-cosecha y mercadeo. En la preproducción se identificó que los productores desconocen los programas gubernamentales de apoyo al campo, les hace falta capacitación y asistencia técnica, no tienen suficiente apoyo financiero, no están organizados, los insumos y servicios les representan un alto costo y la vía de acceso principal a la localidad está en malas condiciones (baches y hoyos) lo que dificulta la transportación del durazno. Respecto a la cosecha los problemas incluyen pérdidas físicas de la fruta debido a alteraciones fisiológicas o patológicas (plagas y enfermedades) las cuales provocan alto grado de perecibilidad y disminución en la calidad del fruto. El manejo post-cosecha del durazno es lento y rustico ya que se carece de maquinaria e instalaciones que agilicen el proceso. En el mercadeo, no se le otorga un valor agregado al durazno y en la comercialización se desconocen los mercados, por lo que el intermediario es el principal punto de venta. A partir de lo expuesto se considera como una oportunidad proponer acciones para mitigar algunos de los problemas identificados por ejemplo: difusión de programas agrícolas vigentes, rehabilitación y mantenimiento de las vías de acceso, gestión de cursos de asistencia técnica y capacitación, gestión de subsidios temporales (vales de gasolina, abonos, fertilizantes y herramientas), reactivación de la asociación de productores de durazno, fortalecimiento de campañas fitosanitarias, agro procesamiento del durazno a nivel artesanal, diseñar y operar huertas escolares demostrativas

Efficient Calculation of the Green's Functions for Multilayered Shielded Cavities with Right Isosceles-Triangular Cross-Section

An efficient calculation of the Green’s functions inside multilayered shielded cavities with right isosceles-triangular cross-section is presented. The method is entirely developed in the spatial domain, and it is based on image theory. The idea is to use the spatial-domain Green’s functions inside a multilayered shielded square box, in order to accurately obtain the Green’s functions for the right isosceles-triangular cavity. Image theory is then used to enforce the boundary conditions along the non-equal side of the triangle. It is shown that the new algorithm is very robust, with limited computational effort. Resonance frequencies and potential patterns of a triangular cavity have been calculated and compared with those obtained by other techniques, showing very good agreement. Finally, a transversal filter inside a multilayered triangular-shaped cavity is designed, manufactured and tested using the developed technique.This work was partially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science under Grant FPU-AP2006-015 and with the Project TEC2007-67630-C03-02

Antitubercular drugs for an old target: GSK693 as a promising InhA direct inhibitor

Despite being one of the first antitubercular agents identified, isoniazid (INH) is still the most prescribed drug for prophylaxis and tuberculosis (TB) treatment and, together with rifampicin, the pillars of current chemotherapy. A high percentage of isoniazid resistance is linked to mutations in the pro-drug activating enzyme KatG, so the discovery of direct inhibitors (DI) of the enoyl-ACP reductase (InhA) has been pursued by many groups leading to the identification of different enzyme inhibitors, active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), but with poor physicochemical properties to be considered as preclinical candidates. Here, we present a series of InhA DI active against multidrug (MDR) and extensively (XDR) drug-resistant clinical isolates as well as in TB murine models when orally dosed that can be a promising foundation for a future treatment.he research leading to these results has received funding from GlaxoSmithKline R&D the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development, and from the European Union's 7th framework program (FP7-2007-2013) under the Orchid grant agreement no. 261378
