Universality Classes of Diagonal Quantum Spin Ladders

We find the classification of diagonal spin ladders depending on a characteristic integer NpN_p in terms of ferrimagnetic, gapped and critical phases. We use the finite algorithm DMRG, non-linear sigma model and bosonization techniques to prove our results. We find stoichiometric contents in cuprate CuO2CuO_2 planes that allow for the existence of weakly interacting diagonal ladders.Comment: REVTEX4 file, 3 color figures, 1 tabl

Optimizing the spatial spread of a quantum walk.

    Get PDF
We devise a protocol to build 1D time-dependent quantum walks in 1D maximizing the spatial spread throughout the procedure. We allow only one of the physical parameters of the coin-tossing operator to vary, i.e. the angle θ, such that for θ = 0 we have the ˆσz, while for θ = π/4 we obtain the Hadamard gate. The optimal θ sequences present non-trivial patterns, with mostly θ ≈ 0 alternated with θ ≈ π/4 values after increasingly long periods. We provide an analysis of the entanglement properties, quasi-energy spectrum and survival probability, providing a full physical picture.peer-reviewed1,34 M

When do tourists really enjoy authentic and exotic food experiences? Product adaptation and tourists’ attitudes

    Get PDF
Gastronomy is an essential component of the travel experience. The current paper analyses the extent to which the perceived authenticity in the local food, the degree of adaptation and the cultural contrast determine tourist memorable experiences. Moreover, it proposes the moderating effect of searching for authenticity and adaptation ability. Results from a sample of international tourists in Segovia who tasted a typical dish “cochinillo” (roasted suckling pig) support the positive effect of authenticity and cultural contrast in the perceived experience, whereas the product adaptation reduces the perception of authenticity and cultural contrast. Authenticity has a greater effect on the experience perception when the tourists search for it and individuals are less influenced by the cultural contrast when they are unable to adapt themselves to different cultures.

Full employment is a challenge that we face since the nineteenth century, being this objective by which the governments have gone from practicing a corrective policy to a more interventionist one being created in the case of Spain the Law 56/2003 of Employment based on two pillars, to mitigate the effects of the unemployment, and to face its causes through the orientation, formation and intermediation until reaching the insertion of the active population. However, with the economic and financial crisis of 2008, the ability of the Public Employment Services (Servicios Públicos de Empleo) to fight against unemployment has been questioned and we have questioned the viability of the current system. This article reviews the labor insertion programs in Andalusia in order to analyze their adequacy to the needs of job applicants, reflecting on their efficiency and effectiveness with the final objective of proposing improvements.

    The Correlated Block Renormalization Group

We formulate the standard real-space renormalization group method in a way which takes into account the correlation between blocks. This is achieved in a dynamical way by means of operators which reflect the influence on a given block of its neighbours. We illustrate our method in the example of the tight-binding model in 1D and 2D for various types of boundary conditions.Comment: LATEX file, 18 pages, 7 figures available upon reques

Nanocellular Polymers with a Gradient Cellular Structure Based on Poly(methyl methacrylate)/Thermoplastic Polyurethane Blends Produced by Gas Dissolution Foaming

    Get PDF
Graded structures and nanocellular polymers are two examples of advanced cellular morphologies. In this work, a methodology to obtain low-density graded nanocellular polymers based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/ thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) blends produced by gas dissolution foaming is reported. A systematic study of the effect of the processing condition is presented. Results show that the melt-blending results in a solid nanostructured material formed by nanometric TPU domains. The PMMA/ TPU foamed samples show a gradient cellular structure, with a homogeneous nanocellular core. In the core, the TPU domains act as nucleating sites, enhancing nucleation compared to pure PMMA and allowing the change from a microcellular to a nanocellular structure. Nonetheless, the outer region shows a gradient of cell sizes from nano- to micron-sized cells. This gradient structure is attributed to a non-constant pressure profile in the samples due to gas desorption before foaming. The nucleation in the PMMA/ TPU increases as the saturation pressure increases. Regarding the effect of the foaming conditions, it is proved that it is necessary to have a fine control to avoid degeneration of the cellular materials. Graded nanocellular polymers with relative densities of 0.16–0.30 and cell sizes ranging 310–480 nm (in the nanocellular core) are obtained
