Measuring consumer perceptions of online shopping convenience
The aim of this master thesis is to identify which dimensions of convenience affect consumers’ intention of using online shopping. Also it explores a conceptual model to measuring consumer perceptions of online shopping convenience. This paper contains prospects about online consumer behavior, and the results have important implications for retailers, managers and marketers, related to online shopping strategies.
An empirical investigation was carried out to test the hypotheses. In order to answer the research question, data collection was done through a web-based survey with a convenient sample as a means to collect customers’ feedback, opinion, feelings, attitudes, and perceptions about their last online shopping experience. The findings were further discussed in the light of existing literature.
The sample includes 250 young Portuguese anonymous participants. It was used a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) in the scale validation for the analysis and measurement of specific constructs and a Structural Equation Model (SEM) in order to test the relationships of the model. The results reveal that the model proposed Possession, Transaction and Evaluation are the dimensions with more influence in online shopping convenience.
The outcomes of this study help to understand which dimensions of online convenience prevent or encourage the use intention of online shopping. The results not only help develop a better understanding of online shopping theories for researchers, but they also offer viable knowledge to those involved in promoting online shopping to potential purchasers
primeira questão do estudo.
aluno); (f) o ângulo é a área entre dois segmentos representativos dos lados (4 alunos);
(1 aluna).Abstract: The ongoing research aims to understand the influence of the
implementation of a set of tasks in the development of the concept of angle in 5th
grade students, trying to answer the following questions: a) What conceptions of angle
reveal 5th grade students?; b) What strategies do 5th grade students use in tasks
exploration?; and c) What aspects of the concept of angle are developed by students
through the realization of the proposed tasks? This communication focuses on the first
question of the study.
We opted for a qualitative approach of interpretive paradigm with the use of teaching
experiment. Four students were selected to constitute the target group. We did the
diagnostic evaluation of angle conceptions of these four students by conducting
videotaped individual semi-structured clinical interviews, in the 1st Period of 2011/12.
Besides the interviews, we used the participant observation of videotaped classes and
the analysis of documents, as techniques of data collection. To analyze the data,
analytic categories were developed.
The results for the diagnostic evaluation reveal misconceptions of angle and of angle
amplitude: (a) the angles are the polygon sides (1 student); (b) the length of the
segments representing the angle sides is related to the size of the angles (2 students);
(c) the arc length marking the angle is related to the size of the angles (3 students); (d)
in the concave polygons, only the angles with amplitude less than 180° are considered
as angles (3 students); (e) in figures that there are not polygons, the angles are the
spaces between straight segments and curved lines (1 student); (f) the angle is the area
between the two segments representing the angle sides (4 students); and (g ) the right
angles are only perceived when placed in the horizontal/vertical usual position (1
student)

A segunda secção
realizada.
Abstract: This report aims to analyze the challenges of translating young adult literature
by means of the discussion of general aspects related to this type of literature and the
comment of the translation of The Ant Colony, a book written for the young public.
This work is structured in two chapters, both of them divided into three
sections. The first chapter focuses on general questions related to translation; in the first
section, we mention the concept of translation, the task of the translator and the methods
he/she has at his/her disposal, the challenges of translating literary texts and texts for
children and young adults, the status of children and young adult literature, its role in
the society and its particular features; in the second section, we focus on textual types
and their relevance to the translation context; in the third section, at last, we analyze the
concepts of style and language variation on the basis of the informal and markedly oral
language that characterizes the translated text.
The second chapter of this report consists of the comment of the translation
work. In the first section, we focus on aspects of general interest that may arise in any
kind of translation but that were particularly relevant in the context of the translated
text. These aspects are divided into lexical and syntactic matters. As for lexical issues,
we reflect about the conversion of units and the translation of proper names. Regarding
the syntactic issues, we focus on the following aspects: changes on the word order,
double adjectives and modulation. We also discuss some aspects of textual cohesion,
formatting and punctuation and translator’s notes.
In the second section, focusing on the language variation and the features of an
informal and markedly oral language, we analyze the narrative style by organizing the
discussed matters into lexical and syntactic issues. The lexical issues concern the
following aspects: slang, discourse markers, interjections and onomatopoeia, idioms and
proverbs, lexical processes of compensation and losses in the translation, and forms of
address. The syntactic issues concern the following aspects: coordination structures, the
introduction of nonstandard syntactic structures and right dislocation. All the mentioned
aspects are discussed on the basis of examples from the translation of the source text.
The third and last section focuses on the structure of the narrative, which is
characterized by the prevalence of two narrative voices.
The translation options that are here discussed and justified aim to compare the
two languages involved in this work – English and Portuguese. This comparison may be
useful in a more general context of translation and in the particular context of the
translation of young adult literature.
The report includes an annex with the translation of the selected book

The impact of attitudinal profiles, self-concept and parental involvement towards the efficiency at mathematics - a study with students from year 6
Abstract:
Performance in mathematics has been pointed out by several studies as being multivariate, in addition to those associated with the cognitive, affective and attitudinal nature of the student, we have seen an increase in studies that point out variables associated with parental involvement.
In this study, our aim is to characterize the performance of year 6 students in Mathematics, according to their attitudinal profiles, self-concept and parental involvement.
The sample is composed by 159 year 6 students from the portuguese basic education, to whom was applied the Questionnaire of Attitudes towards school, the Questionnaire of Attitudes towards Mathematics, the Contextual Variables questionnaire – Family support, the Self-Concept test (PHCSCS-2, Veiga, 2006) and Questionnaire of Parent´s Attitudes towards School (QAPFE) (Neto, Candeias & Pomar, 2010).
In general, the results prove that the students mathematics score continues to strongly participate in the cognitive and academic variables and in a lower proportion when it come to the emotional and attitudinal variables. However, we consider that it is necessary to perform more studies in this sense, but in a longitudinal manner in order to check if there are any alterations of these results throughout the academic path
precedentes a nível mundial.
associados a viagens futuras.
potencial; - The Effects of the Covid-19 Crisis on Portuguese Vacation Travel
Expectations -
Abstract:
The current moment of health crisis created by the COVID-19 virus has generated
unprecedented effects worldwide. Standing out for its high degree of contagion and rapid
spread, the tourism sector was seriously affected, due to bans on movement between
countries and the fear of tourists in being infected by the virus. In this sense, this study
aims to identify the effects of the pandemic on the behavior of Portuguese tourists in
relation to their holiday travel, through the analysis of destinations and service concepts
sought during this phase and the feelings and expectations associated with future travel.
For this purpose, a questionnaire will be applied to assess the perception of Portuguese
tourists regarding the consequences of the pandemic crisis in tourism. Data were
collected through an online questionnaire to five hundred Portuguese consumers,
which verified whether their trips had changed due to the covid-19 pandemic and what
their expectations for travel in 2021 were.
The results showed that most respondents saw their trips changed or cancelled, so
they were reluctant to travel again. However, those who intend to travel again have
shown their intention to exclude some tourist destinations, always bearing in mind the
implementation of the recommended preventive measures. The key elements of consumer
expectations focus on familiarity and safety, short-term travel, social distancing and
supporting the domestic economy.
In the opinion of consumers, the pandemic could boost new tourist destinations in
Portugal, so it will be important to study their perception and develop destinations with
potential
Antibiotic resistance is growing problem worldwide and it is associated to high mortality rates as well as higher health spending.
CR-KP is one of the main microorganisms that presents resistance to antibiotics. There are numerous mechanisms of resistance to antibiotics and as examples we have the expression of efflux pumps, the mutation of porin channels or the production of enzymes able to hydrolyze the antibiotic. Regarding carbapenems resistance, the production of carbapenemases (enzymes that hydrolyze carbapenems) is the most observed mechanism of resistance.
KPC is the most clinically interesting carbapenemase, as it also is the most prevalent one. This protein is coded within plasmids and therefore it has the capacity of being transferable between different species of bacteria. This contributes to the spreading of Carbapenem Resistance.
Although there are some therapeutic alternatives for the treatment of infections caused by CR-KP today, it is fundamental to identify which are the risk factors for both colonization and infection. By doing this, the selection of the antibiotic can be as targeting as possible.
The previous exposition to an antibiotic, the internment within an Intensive Care Unit, the resort to invasive procedures, organ or cell transplant, as well as the existence of previous chronic diseases were identified as the major risk factors for both colonization and infection
The hepatitis delta virus is the smallest virus known to infect humans. It has an RNA genome,in a circular molecule with about 1700 nucleotides. The viral particle is composed of genomic RNAand both forms of delta antigen (encoded by a single open reading frame), surroundedby an envelope formed by surface antigens of the hepatitis B virus. Due to therelationship between bothviruses, the hepatitis delta virus only infects individuals who are infected with the hepatitis B virus. Despite this, it is able to induce the most aggressive form of viral hepatitis and is estimated to affect about 20 million people globally.Although the cells of the same organism share their genomes, they have different phenotypes and functions, often due to transcriptomic differences. One way to analyze these differences is by using the RNA-seq technique which allows, through next generation sequencing applied to complementary DNA,to perceive how the population of RNAs from a set of cells is found at a given time or condition. In this work we establisheda model of infection by the hepatitis delta virus, transfecting a plasmid (pSVL (D3)) containing cDNA of HDV genome, into cells of a cell line (HuH-7) derived from human hepatocellular carcinoma. Afterwards, thetotalRNA wasextracted and sequenced.Several genes were identified through RNA-seq as differentially expressed on the presence of HDV.One of the genes identified as over-expressed with the infection of HDV was c-fos. It integrates the AP-1 transcription factor, is involved in several cell pathways, and interacts with several other genes.Since the AP-1 factor is a dimer made up of proteins from different families, other genes from the FOS family and from the JUN family expression were analyzed by PCR, concluding that only c-fos was altered with the presence of HDV. Also cyclin D1 (one of the c-fos / AP-1 regulated genes) was most expressed after HDV infection. In conclusion, this work provided an overview of the global transcriptional changes induced by hepatitis delta virus infection. In particular, it identifiedan overexpressionof the c-fos proto-oncogene, and genes regulated by it, suggesting that the c-fos gene may play an important role in the pathogenic effect of HDV. These results may contribute to a better understanding of the development process of hepatocellular carcinoma causedby hepatitis delta virus
