Evolving supernova remnants in multiphase interstellar media

    Get PDF
We performed three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations to study the evolution of a supernova remnant (SNR) in a turbulent neutral atomic interstellar medium. The media used as background shares characteristics with the Solar neighbourhood and the SNR has mass and energy similar to those of a Type Ia object. Our initial conditions consist of dense clouds in a diluted medium, with the main difference between simulations being the average magnitude of the magnetic field. We measured amplifications of the magnetic energy of up to 34 per cent, and we generated synthetic maps that illustrate how the same object can show different apparent geometries and physical properties when observed through different lines of sight.Fil: Villagran Azuara, Marco Adrian. Please, check the journal policy about sharing versions of journal articles: https://authorservices.taylorandfrancis.com/research-impact/sharing-versions-of-journal-articles/[EN] This study focuses on two key issues characterising the current public financial management debate, namely the quality of governance, and public-sector accounting reforms. By investigating a sample of 33 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries for the period 2010–2014, results suggest that states which have implemented public-sector accounting reforms (through the adoption of accrual-based accounting systems and the implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards) have a higher level of governance quality. More specifically, results suggest a positive influence on the level of accountability, government effectiveness, regulation quality, the rule of law, and controlling corruption; while political stability is not affected by such reforms

Treball de Final de Grau en Comunicació Audiovisual. Codi: CA0932. Durante toda la investigación previa y la ejecución de nuestro proyecto publicitario, hemos tenido presente el objetivo principal del mensaje: concienciar y acabar con el machismo mediante la educación igualitariaIn following work one presents the production of an advertising campaign to arouse on the importance of the igalitarian education between the children. The campaign consists of two advertising spots for television (one of major duration and another standard), four cartels for supports in paper or web (as well as for social networks or other channels of communication) and three wireless wedges. The micromachismo is the central topic of the campaign, in I make concrete the igalitarian education that the society needs to finish with this practice. The micromachismo is a type of inequality that is characterized for happening unnoticed in many cases. They are acts machists so subtle and established in the persons, that we do not manage to perceive. For this, we do not realize that they are harmful in order that the women and the men are treated as an equal form and on the same rights. During the whole previous investigation and the execution of our advertising project, we have born in mind the principal aim of the message: to arouse and to finish with the machismo by means of the egalitarian education

Selectron Pair Production in e+e- Colliders and the Supergravity Spectrum

Selectrons may be produced in pairs at LEPII if their mass is less than about 100 GeV. Preferably, they decay into the lightest neutralino plus an electron. In a scenario where selectrons are observed at LEPII, we show that: (i) in a first stage where experimental errors are large, the measurement of the total cross section of selectron pair production, the selectron mass, and the lightest neutralino mass, allow us to validate or rule out the Minimal Supergravity Model in its simplest form, and that (ii) in a second stage where precision measurements are available, the value of tanβ\tan\beta can be determined together with the rest of the parameters that specify the Minimal Supergravity Model and, with them, the entire supersymmetric spectrum can be calculated. We include experimental constraints from sparticle searches, ZZ--pole physics, stability of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and the decay bsγb\rightarrow s\gamma. In these scenarios, small values of tanβ\tan\beta and negative values of μ\mu are preferred, and the lightest Higgs mass satisfies mh<110m_h<110 GeV, which makes it likely to be detected at LEPII.Comment: 22 pages, latex, 11 figures uufile

    Get PDF

Acute abdomen with actinomycosis of the colon: A case report

    Get PDF
AbstractBackgroundActinomyces infection is a chronic inflammatory process that can sometimes, clinically and radiographically, closely mimic a malignant tumour, which may lead to giving a delayed or inappropriate treatment.Clinical caseMale 41 years old, with no previous history, with abdominal pain of one month onset, as well as weight loss, intermittent fever and diarrhoea. He developed acute abdomen and underwent surgery, finding a tumour in the distal ileum with necrosis and punctiform perforations. A resection was performed on the affected part of the ileum and colon, as well as an ileostomy using Hartmann's procedure.ConclusionsActinomycosis is a disease that must be considered by the surgeon when faced with a clinical picture of subacute onset with intermittent fever, weight loss, abdominal pain, and even anaemia in patients with abdominal and retroperitoneal abscesses or previous history of surgery

Circumcision in childhood and male sexual function: a blessing or a curse?

    Get PDF
Male circumcision (MC) is the first planned surgical procedure ever performed. Nowadays many of these procedures are not necessarily carried out in a medical environment, therefore the real number remains unknown but it is estimated that one third of the men are circumcised. Some authors argue the negative impact of MC on men psychology and sexual life, but objective data are lacking. The purpose of this review is to summarize in the best possible way the literature to clarify this matter. A non-systematic narrative review was performed including articles between 1986 and 2019. The search for literature was carried out between July 2019 to October 2019 and any updates as of March 30, 2020. Although many authors support the hypothesis that circumcision status has an impact on sexual functioning, a negative outcome has not yet been entirely proven. Circumcision might affect how men perceive their body image, and consequently affect their sexual life. We should consider this when analysing the literature about MC and sexual dysfunction, as many of the results are based on specific populations with different attitudes towards this procedure. Sexual function consists of many elements that not only relate to measurable facts such as anatomy, somatosensory and histology. An objective evaluation of the impact of circumcision on sexuality is still challenging, as it affects a wide variety of people that confront sexuality differently due to their sociocultural and historical background. Therefore, individuals can either perceive their circumcision status as a blessing or a curse depending on the values and preferences of the different communities or social environments where they belong

FORS2/VLT survey of Milky Way globular clusters I. Description of the method for derivation of metal abundances in the optical and application to NGC 6528, NGC 6553, M 71, NGC 6558, NGC 6426 and Terzan 8

(abridged) We have observed almost 1/3 of the globular clusters in the Milky Way, targeting distant and/or highly reddened objects, besides a few reference clusters. A large sample of red giant stars was observed with FORS2@VLT/ESO at R ~ 2,000. The method for derivation of stellar parameters is presented with application to six reference clusters. We aim at deriving the stellar parameters effective temperature, gravity, metallicity and alpha-element enhancement, as well as radial velocity, for membership confirmation of individual stars in each cluster. We analyse the spectra collected for the reference globular clusters NGC 6528, NGC 6553, M 71, NGC 6558, NGC 6426 and Terzan 8. They cover the full range of globular cluster metallicities, and are located in the bulge, disc and halo. Full spectrum fitting techniques are applied, by comparing each target spectrum with a stellar library in the optical region at 4560-5860 A. We employed the library of observed spectra MILES, and the synthetic library by Coelho et al. (2005). Validation of the method is achieved through recovery of the known atmospheric parameters for 49 well-studied stars that cover a wide range in the parameter space. We adopted as final stellar parameters (effective temperatures, gravities, metallicities) the average of results using MILES and Coelho et al. libraries. We identified 4 member stars in NGC 6528, 13 in NGC 6553, 10 in M 71, 5 in NGC 6558, 5 in NGC 6426 and 12 in Terzan 8. Radial velocities, Teff, log(g), [Fe/H] and alpha-element enhancements were derived. We derived abundances for NGC 6426 from spectroscopy for the first time. The method proved to be reliable for red giant stars observed with resolution R ~ 2,000, yielding results compatible with high-resolution spectroscopy. The derived alpha-element abundances show [A/Fe] vs. [Fe/H] consistent with that of field stars at the same metallicities.Comment: 22 pages, 21 figures, accepted for publication in A&
